Wish Beta Overload

Mutable Realms sends word of a change in plans for the launch of beta testing of Wish, their upcoming MMORPG:
Because of the enormous number of beta applications that we have received (more than 60,000 at the time of this writing), we will not enable all beta accounts on January 1 at once. Instead, we will only enable a number of randomly chosen beta accounts every day, starting January 1.

We require this transition period to better configure our one-world server. By granting access to the beta test in stages, we can better allocate resources where they are required.

We will try our best to enable all accounts as quickly as possible. In any case, if you are not one of the first to be selected, don't worry!
The live content we have prepared for you will allow you to join at any time.

Please do not send us any inquiries about when your account will be enabled. We will send you an email notification once your account is active. The selection is completely random, and no exceptions will be made.

Well Cheese, WoW isn't at all dependant on grouping. It has group required quests...though they are specified by ELITE. Basically it's a normal monster with reinforced armor and possibly added damage. This requires the extra players so you can chop it down faster. An elite 2 lvls under you can even kick your ass pretty bad to give an example of how strong they are. The rest of the quests that aren't ELITE, are specified by their color. Grey=very easy, green=easy, yellow=perfectly fit for your level, orange=abit harder for you, red=crazy hard for you. This basically means the reds you need to get higher lvl to accomplish if you want to do them on your own, otherwise you can go group searching or ask for someone to lend you a hand. That's another thing. A group in WoW usually can consist of merely 2 players which means you and a friend can do a lot. While Elite quests will require a beefy group of about 4-5 players. Cheers!

You still playing EQ2, Cheese?

Well EQ2 was good the first 20 levels or so, but i found it to dependant on grouping after that so i cancelled it.
I might give Wow a whirl who knows.

I think Guild Wars will actually be a better success. It's been tested by many players on a central server (via a peer-to-peer styled technology. Better yet, the game will be free of monthly fees! I think it's WISHfull thinking to believe they'll let you play this for free. Games like Asheron's Call, Worlds of Warcraft and Everquest are WORTH the monthly fee. Games like WISH... ewww.

Anyone remember Asheron's Call? Turbine bought back the property and brought it in-house. Their subscriber base is under 50k but they're still doing strong. What's this "rule" that says if a game has under 50-100k subscribers it's a failure. Pashaw! That's anywhere from $10-$15 per month times 50-100k accounts. Mo money, mo money, mo money.

Like I said, it's just for marketting. Although WoW's overloads and crazy population hit was true as we all were able to see, these people are making up phony talk that they got 60,000 applicants just to make people go, WoW, I wonder what's so great, letme go and see. It's just once again, another company biting off Blizzard's success(including marketting).

From what I understand, Anarchy Online is doing well enough (much because of Shadowlands, which is a lot more interesting than the "classic" release)... It got good reviews too... They have their niche, sci-fi cyberpunk (or something like that).. not my cup of tea, but I think they have a solid amount of subscribers

Sure I'll try the Wish Beta, but for now, and for myself, WoW is MMORPG Nirvana, again for myself. All they need now is a Starcraft game like Planetside and I'd never see sunlight or bathe again!

Yeah, I love WoW too. My favorite MMORPG game so far (played the us open beta). However, like you, I'm going to try other betas even though I love WoW (unlike pvtsomethingsomething)

Now if we can only get some of that Blizzard/Wow Goodness to rub off on the COH people. I hate EQ's lack of structure, and EQ2 is waaay to much structure, but Wow has a nice inbetween feel to it. Don't want to go hunting? Try the Trade skills, they are actually FUN. I made some goggles for the Tauren and now my guild calls me Ray Charles.

I won't say WoW is the end all be all of MMORPG, but they did quite a few things right by me. If ya don't like leveling, go exploring... with say 50 other horde/alliance mates and go visit the neighbors and say hello. (mind you it's useually from a pointy end of a sharp weapon)

Regarding what Pvthudson01 said

1) I'm participating in this because I want to see for myself what it's like (I was in beta 1 too, but that was a rough beta.. one year has passed since then).. if I can help them get rid of some bugs, that's good too
2) WOW isn't out in Europe yet. Final beta is starting soon, however. And I think it will be released in january or february. I have already preordered it, so I guess by your logic, I shouldn't participate in this beta? You heard it game companies, stop making MMORPG's, WoW has been released!
3) Who are you to say what people are to like or not? Some people may not like what WoW has to offer
4) It's good to know you have so many friends.
5) I know many dark secrets too. This is one of them: you've got your head up your ass

in defense of other companys, where do you get off with that attitude? wtf other companys cant try to make a mmorpg now that wow is out?And i do belive i know alot of ppl too and most of them like freedom of choice, If wish is good or baad that we will have to find out, but at least we can find that out instead of them folding like a cheap deck of cards because Wow is so popular.
I say where is your logic and try not to sound so angry about it too its just another company trying to survive in this tuff market.

WISH is retarded

The point and click movement is horribly done

I cant beleive there are actually 60,000 clueless people out there that have their heads so far up their asses that they dont even have a copy of WoW or are even contemplating this shitty ass game instead of WoW

Also, I think this press release is a bunch of bullshit.

There is not ONE single person I know of waiting for this game. Not one. And I talk to a lot of people...oh yes...i do...trust me....

I know many dark secrets

I would have to agree. I can forget my EQ2 purchase since WoW is so engaging. In fact I haven't even bothered with any other games or game news - WoW boards at work, WoW at home.

I don't think to date any Beta on day 1 had 60,000 people playing it.

Sides I'm just happy I finally got that nasty EQ taste out of my mouth with WoW.

Hang on isnt this game supposed to brag that it is 1 constant world i.e. no shards, hence it should be able to cope with way more than 60k. I must admit tho it does look good as it is supposed to be like how classic ultima online was before they ruined it. So lots of pking and real role playing

At least they have some pretty lofty goals in terms of storytelling. And hell, how bad can PnC be, when most offline RPGs use that system?

Click click movement is teh suq. Couldn't pay me to play it.

I hope that people who like that sort of thing, have fun, tho.
