Classic DOOM for DOOM 3

An alpha version of the Classic Doom for Doom 3 modification is now available (thanks Doomworld and Ant), bringing gameplay aspects of the original DOOM to its recent remake. There are warning that as an alpha release, this mod is incomplete, and that gameplay issues are bound to pop up.

Soley looking at the screenshots and seeing the difference between Doom I and Doom III with better graphics this mod, for me, really showed how much Doom III is a direct sequel with no serious improvements over the original.

Looking at the mods screenshots - although you knew it was Doom I remade it still had the same viscaral feel of Doom III. This could only mean two things - Doom I was even more advanced then any of us thought or Doom III was a ten year old game in new clothes.

I know which my money is on.

Um... this was a post from a pot head (former), with the munchies (at the time) on a nostalgia trip

Ok - bad question to ask at Christmas in a forum that has nothing to do with this but... I am trying to remember some movie from the 80's that had a duck in it, it was in the same sort of vein as Big Trouble in Little China and there was some mad guy that was irradiated in a nuclear plant, drove a truck and had electric powers from his fingers.

Yep. That's all I can remember. Anyone got any ideas on what this movie was?

Edit: Found it. Howard the Duck. I think.

Well, just tried it out, and so far, I like it...

I'm not sure of the mouse just seems slower than what I'm used to, or if the engine itself just runs a little slower than rugular doom...

Either way, it's very cool. The site says they're only doing the first episode of Doom. Hope they change their minds.

It's good, but perhaps the best way to think of it right now is as an unpolished gem. Still, it's an early release so they've got lots of time to get the little details correct and 'right'. As nebulous as 'right' is...

It's like Doom! But in Doom3! With actual remade levels, rather than a straight architechture port!
