DOOM 3 Add-on Details

PlanetDOOM (thanks Charles) has some info on the upcoming Resurrection of Evil add-on for DOOM 3 gleaned from an article in the new print edition of Game Informer magazine. They set the action three years after the conclusion of DOOM 3, describe a bit of the new artifact in the expansion, and show optimism over the prospect that the add-on will support cooperative multiplayer play.

Agreed.

SvenCoop - can't wait
FarCry Coop - Only played it a few times, but it's extremely promising.
DoomCoop - bring it on.

...your money and go buy The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay instead.
A far more entertaining game, in my opinion.
Currently playing that in my WoW downtime,

You can get Far Cry co-op?

Games need more co-op; it's got all the fun of multiplayer without the crushing humilation of deathmatch.

I'm thinking serious sam 2 for coop goodness. That expansion pack would have to change so much about Doom for me to want to play it again...

i could never find a co-op server (at a useable ping) for either Serious Sam game last time I tried. Bloody annoying, that.

Yes, there is such a thing as FarCry Coop. you can get it here - http://xod0.xo.funpic.de/main.php?lang=en

It's a lot of fun, I was laughing out loud at places, which I tend not to do with DM or it's varients. The main thing that I enjoy with MP gaming is playing againt mates. Playing with them is even better which is why I'm especially keen for more Coop gaming

So the only difference between the addon will be that the first of the two coop players in a room will get scared when a bunch of monsters randomly spawn in behind him?

I liked DooM3 for what it was and the tech was awesome, as is usually the case with id. Still, it's the first id game I've not been able to get myself to play through more than once. I just can't do it! And there were some great parts in it that I'd like to see again, too....

In any case, I'll pick this up. I figure Nerve has to have some inkling of what was right and what was wrong and try a fresh approach where it's needed.... I hope.... I pray.... please;P

Got to admit, not buying it. I didnt care for the over the top darkness. Doom, the original to me was much brighter and it was basically long hallways connecting room after room, which I think they got right. I will never understand why it got so dark and just am not interested in playing it.

Instead of 2 imps jumping out of broom closests on either side of you, there will now be 4 imps jumping out to deal with you and your co-op partner. Oh the joyness of it all has overwhelmed me *in best Ben Stein voice*.

At least those of you who bitched about having the flashlight seperate from the guns can quit whining, as the screenshots show flashlights integrated with the weapons.

I personally enjoyed DOOM 3 though; it was a lot more adrenaline-pumping action than HL2 provided me.

The darkness in DOOM 3 was not the real problem with the game, IMO. Adjust your gamma if you don't like it. I tweaked mine by a slight amount to get what I felt was more realistic and it was fine. Some of the really dark areas were exciting. ANYWAY, the real problem with the game was its tedious, unexciting nature. It played like a tech demo. Moreso than other id games. And the way monsters spawned in got old really quick.

It's sort of hard to say whether id's older games (pre-Quake 3) were more fun because they brought fresh new technology to the table, or they were just better games with better gameplay. I think it's a bit of both.

So nobody has come up with a decent DOOM 3 co-op mod yet? Can't say I'm surprised.

As for that Far Cry co-op mod, it is cool but be careful with it and back up your stuff or be prepared to re-install the game. And don't count on any single-player saved games loading properly while you have it installed. It screws with the map files.

i, for one, am looking forward to this expansion. i didn't expect D3 to be like any other game - i took it for what it was and enjoyed it. the game was good, and the expansion will likely improve on the original. bring it on!
