Gothic III

This JoWooD Press Release (thanks TheMysterD) announces plans for Gothic III, the third edition in Piranha Bytes' RPG series:
Rottenmann, Austria, 14th of December 2004: JoWooD Productions continues its successful cooperation with the German developer Piranha Bytes by publishing one of the most spectacular titles of the coming year: Gothic III, the third part of the legendary RPG saga. "Being listed in all major 'most wanted' charts across Europe, Gothic III is the top title of the coming year. To publish a game with such popularity, potential and quality, is a great chance for us to push a world-wide known brand even further" ,comments Andreas Tobler, CEO of JoWooD Productions Software AG. JoWooD Productions takes this chance and will try to break RPG selling records of the past!

"Our main efforts are to increase quality, atmosphere and fascination in Gothic III, to deliver an unbeatable RPG experience to all the Gothic fans out there. But even with all the improvements and innovations, we continue to build upon the unique concept of the Gothic titles", promises Mike Hoge, developer Piranha Bytes.

In 2002, JoWooD Productions managed to establish Gothic II as known brand in the RPG world. Gothic II dominated the sales charts with weeks at the top and is one of the best-selling titles ever created in German territories. The success is also proven by dozens of awards like "Best RPG 2002", "Best of E3 Show", "Best of Games Convention" and incredible ratings worldwide.

Gothic II was awesome. Now all they need is an interface that supports a mouse.

Dear JoWooD,

Please let this gaming cake fully bake before you take it from the oven to sell - if you know what I mean. The world does not want another sloppy uncooked mess of Soldner-like proportions.

Love,

Gothic I and II both rocked. I wish the expansion had been released in English. I can't understand why people had so many problems with the controls. I picked them up in a few minutes. The controls allowed much more sophisticated combat than Morrowind by a mile.

The one thing I really enjoyed about Gothic 2 was the difficulty. I like a game that gives me a good challenge. But as I mentioned, the graphics and controls turned me off. I understand the combat system, but I just felt the exploration controls were unnecessarily tedious. And I didn't care for the inventory management. I did most of the quests in the first major city, then decided I wasn't having any fun.

I think the reason I prefer Morrowind has to do with my experience with the series itself. I played Daggerfall 100+ hours, and loved it despite its failures. I despised Gothic 1, because the controls were even worse in the first one. So I was very much looking forward to Morrowind, while I was not very interested in Gothic 2. Still, I gave it a chance and admit it was a great improvement over the first one.

People have different tastes, oh well. Some people can't stand Morrowind's generic feel (in regards to NPCs at least), but it never bothered me. I was actually involved and interested in the plot.

I'm sure both games will be great, but the screenshots for Oblivion already own my soul...they look amazing.

I tried.. ..to get into both Gothic I and II, but alas, I could not.

Was it because of the controls? I can understand not liking the controls in G1, but G2 changed the controls some so it wasn't so bad. Other than that, the rest of the gameplay and story was great IMO.

I tried... and tried and tried... then tried some more... to get into both Gothic I and II, but alas, I could not.

I can't explain what put me off, either.

Until they start making 50 hour days, I'm afraid I'm going to have to stick with the 8 games I have on my list before I start going back to 01 and 02 stuff.. hell I'd like to do Torment again, personally.

As some of you, I also have both G1 and G2 and really enjoyed both. They are my favorite RPGs, so I'm really looking forward to G3. Even if it is out next year, I'm sure won't be released in the US until 2006 or so.

I played morrowind for about 60 hours. I want 58 of them back. The game sucked. Gothic easily owns it.

Zerra, he said he didn't get into it for x number of reasons, and game his impressions of the game and said he didn't enjoy it. Sounds like he did play it.

I'm very happy that this series will be continued and hope that the addon(Night of the Raven) will come out in North America.

Hey guys, I'm not sure how long some of you played, but if you did some fighting you'll see why the controls are that way. They managed to add a neat combat system and kept the movements simple at the same time. If they do change the control scheme, I hope they allow people to enable it like they did with Gothic2.

As far as the graphics quality, I didn't pay much attention.
Both games were fairly immersive and highly enjoyable.

Maybe this time they can make the controls less cumbersome and unintuitive and work on the polish of the game before releasing it.

I never got into Gothic 1 or 2 because the graphics are poorly done (models, textures, etc). You definitely get the impression its a big, open-ended game, but I just couldn't enjoy the game (the controls in both games were also god-awful).

I'm more of a Morrowind man, and as such, more of an Oblivion man. Morrowind was better than Gothic 2, and I'm guessin Oblivion will pwn Gothic 3 (my 2 cents).

Gothic III is easily the number one game on my most wanted games list. Has been for quite a while. Even Half-Life 2 was on the second spot.

I first got to know Gothic by playing the english demo in 2001. I was simply blow away by it. Then I bought the english version of Gothic as soon as it was released and found out that it was the best 3rd person action/adventure/RPG game that I had ever played. Then in 2003 the english version of Gothic II was released and it was as good as the original, if not better (can't really say because I love both games so much).

The Gothic games are awesome singleplayer experiences with a good continuing story. Only Outcast can somewhat compete with the Gothic series.

Yeah, I played G1 and G2 as they were, out the box -- since there were no USA/English Patches out there, even when I looked all over the Net.

I did hit a roadblock w/ G2, where I had to jump back like 2 or 3 saves b/c a key character died who I needed to talk to, for actually finishing one of the main quests -- at least in Morrowind, they let you know that "A key character died, so keep playing in this broken world or reload to a save before this character's death so you can finish the main quest."

Some other silly mistakes too, like certain quests didn't update as finished in my Journal Log when I finished them.

Still a good RPG. At least I never had any saves corrupt or data corruption or anything, like some other games have done to people in the past.

I finished the first Gothic (US version) without any problems. I never patched the game or anything. Just played the version that came in the box.

Never got a chance to play Gothic II, but I heard lots of good things about the game.
