Out of the Blue

It was an interesting thought process that lead to a trip into Manhattan a week before Christmas for a dentist visit even though most all of our holiday shopping is done. I did have a brush with a celeb while working my way through the masses, as I saw professional curmudgeon Andy Rooney walking down the street, which lead to the following actual exchange at a street light:

Businessman 1: Did you see Andy Rooney back there?
Businessman 2: No! That was him?
Businessman 1: Yeah, back there.
Businessman 2 (looking back): He doesn't look so great, huh?
Blue: Hey, lets see how we look when we're his age!
Businessman 1: Heh. If we make it that long.
Businessman 2: You know he goes to every Giants game at the stadium.
Businessman 1: No wonder he doesn't look so great!

R.I.P.: Ginger. No one you know... just a sad dog story.

Load up Hammer for HL2 settings, and head to the Sound Browser (it's in Tools I think) and you can play through the sentences. Some funny stuff in there.

Dont think that works. You need "map d3_citadel_03" (or something - do maps * to see the possibilities) then once you have the gun, do "changelevel xxx" where xxx is whatever other level you want. I could never get physcannon to work.

I think I read that there is a way to start the game with the thing you use at the end - I think I want to try that.

Speaking of Dr. Breen, was he trying to tell me something interesting during s( the ending in the citidel tower? Everytime I came across a terminal with him on it I used my supercharged grav gun and ripped it outta the wall. So I never heard much of what he was trying to tell me. Maybe when I play thru again I should top and listen :D

I always wanted to be an actor. Would have liked to have stuck with it after school, but it just didn't work out...maybe in the next life. Kudos to you and your career. I'm jealous...

Jim sums up HL2 well...I'm playing through HL:S right now, but am eagerly looking forward to playing it again. The art direction, the gameplay, the vehicles, the weapons - everything just seemed perfect.

I was standing by a TV listening to Dr. Breen and the NPC's were conversing behind me:
Female NPC: When this is all over, I'm gonna mate.
Male NPC: Right on!

I have to really wonder how much some of those conversations are scripted, and how much are pure luck! In both HL and HL2, NPCs have the habit of saying some of the funniest stuff at the most inappropriate of times, which made them all the more funny. I've always wondered what was luck, and what was some demented programmer at Valve, getting a laugh in.

And welcome back, Ray!

Hey now, I post.

Kind of.

At least once a week.

Actually, I have primarily been playing WoW at night with Dagok and, during the day, having my life go to hell. I am really pissed off about that last part and have nothing good to say so I will skip over it.

Otherwise, something truly devastating happened to me a few days - I got disconnected from WoW and the login server was not accepting any connections for the following few hours. As such, I was forced to turn off the computer and work on stuff play another game. In that regard, I must give The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay very high regards. It certainly has some rough bits from being a console port, but is actually a very fascinating mixture of FPS and adventure elements. Given its price, I could make a decent argument for it being one of the most worthwhile games of the year.

What kind? What field?

Wondering if I have offended you in the past with my rants regarding engineers....

Civil. I'm in the geotech field (go out and drill holes and assist the structural guys with foundation designs). My wife tells her friends I go play in a sandbox all day.

I can't recall anything I would have taken offense to. Whatever you might have said, I'm sure I've heard worse and somewhere down the line it was probably deserved.

The more I play of WoW, the further in I get into it, the more the game is leaning toward being dull and lifeless. The lack of anything for the player to own or participate in, coupled with the generic, simplified skills, is pushing the needle toward the "Broken" area.

It is fun for those early bits, but it does drag on a bit and it is starting to feel a bit tedious...

Long term, I honestly think this game needs a lot of vast, sweeping changes, but it looks like the developers are just going to simple route: more combat, player combat, harder combat.
I got my money's worth, but where are the gameplay bits?
Having a lot full of 31337 quests,

I'm playing through HL2 again, this time trying different things. I'm at the "Anticiticen One" part where you meet up to fight with other NPCs. I was standing by a TV listening to Dr. Breen and the NPC's were conversing behind me:

Female NPC: When this is all over, I'm gonna mate.
Male NPC: Right on!

Yes a little slow I know, but I took my time and enjoyed it (played on normal difficulty).

Very good game, A+

sst:

The ending levels were FUN. Right from the point they took all my weapons away and got the supercharged grav gun. Using it to pull the combine soldiers thru the energy portals (or whatever those things were) was very funny, then bouncing the plasma balls down the corridors and hear them get fried!

The ending wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be, and there were a couple segments earlier in the game thet were even more difficult. I did have to try it twice because I didn't know what exactly to do right away the first time and ran out of time. Damn I wish I had a column of plasma balls when I was on the bridge and those helo's (forgot what they called em) were attacking and you had to run back across to get the rockets.

I also live the setting for the ending. Almost everywhere throughout the game I could see that tower pointing up into the clouds and every time I saw it I thought "I want to go up there!" I'm quite satisfied that I got the chance to go there. It also answered my questions of "where do those striders and helicopters come from?"

I've read some say that the ending to the story of the game as anti-climactic or whatnot, but I thought it was pretty well done. Most of the game I really didn't feel that I was as much in a story then I was just trying to survive this area so I can get to the next objective. I guess with the game so engaging that you often lose perspective of the big picture.

Half-Life 2 is a game very well done. A+

Can't wait for the next mission pack.

I would love to see the source engine pushed to its limits. Weapons were excellend, the physics was done very well. It would be neat to see a team-based multiplayer game on some large outdoor/indoor maps with vehicles (even flying vehicles).

Yes. The Christmas concerts are over, school is out, and I'm on vacation. The only part that's not ideal right now is that the local ski area isn't open yet due to low snowfall.

Blue you have advertised Anaconda, King Arthur and Van Helsing DVD's on your site... Have you no shame man??? That's like 6 hours that contravene basic human rights on so many levels, time that no person can ever recover...

Think of the children who open their gifts on Christmas day 'Gee Dad, thanks for King Arthur'...

...The loved ones who sit down at a (thusfar) magical Yuletide reunion to watch 'Anaconda' together, little knowing of the horrors that await...

...and Little Timmy, recovering in hospital from his operation, asking for 'Van Helsing' from Santa because he saw it on Blues News...

May the screams of pain of finding no reciept included with gift haunt you this Christmas...
