The Matrix Online Delayed Again

The Matrix Online Website has words of another delay to The Matrix Online (thanks Frans). In spite of the confidence Jason Hall expressed in the January 18 date announced with the previous delay (story), which was justified as a way of ensuring a simultaneous North American and European release, word is the Matrix MMORPG is now due in Spring 2005:
"We are committed to quality games and making this the best possible experience for players," said Jason Hall, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Since this is our first MMOG, we are taking measured steps to ensure it will be polished and are investing additional resources into our community oriented initiatives."

The faction that believes Neo is still alive is Morpheus and a group of rebel Zionists. But that makes sense that Morpheus thinks Neo is still alive. His purpose was to find the One and, well, he still believes that's his purpose. So this has caused a big rift within Zion.

Pick up a copy of CGW. There's a great article on the Matrix Online. Within the first six weeks a major character is going to die (Link, Persephone, the Merovingian, or Morpheus). Many are speculating Morpheus because if his fallout with Zion. But that's only one of the many storylines it mentions.

The storyline picks up right where the movies left off and this is going to be their bread and butter. Missions are redundant at the moment because they're testing the functionality of the system. The whole storyline will go in at release - and that's going to be the big deal. Not PVP. Although there is dueling and now an open PVP construct which is actually an archive of the Zero One machine city.

And I disagree about the rock-paper-scissors analogy of the combat system. It's an RPG so it's die-roll based (just like most everything else). But you get to choose different styles of fighting and if you have an ability loaded up such as Kung Fu, etc. your fighting changes - and you can change that in the middle of combat. There are also different moves, loaded as abilities, that you can bust out against your opponent.

I've been playing this for three months and have yet to get bored.

"NEO'S DEAD" and soemthing to the affect that Zion lives on blah blah blah etc etc etc.

I saw that (friend forwarded it to me). And you believed it?

Why would they say that right up front? To sucker you in later when they drag him out!

And notice in that same newsletter there's a part about a faction that believes he's still alive...

Trust me: When subscriptions are down, and they want to generate attention, they're gonna drag him out. It's their ace card up the sleeve. Maybe we'll have a repeat of that whole "killing Lord British in front of everyone" deal...

would like to read the original story, The Third Eye. It's probably better than the Matrix is. To think that they cut 30 FRIGGIN MINUTES out of the matrix to avoid copyright infringement just pains me. I'd love to know what was cut.

Me too, but I can't find it anywhere. I don't know if it ever was published or not, or if she had just written it as a screenplay.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

Neo lived. But I'm not paying $15 a month to find out...

Mark my words: It'll have huge sales to begin with, then everyone will leave, and in an attempt to get some people back, they'll drag out Neo. Only, like everything else in the Matrix, they won't explain HOW he's back - it'll just be a big mystery, and they'll expect you to continue to shell out $15 a month as they drop breadcrumbs. And not tasty breadcrumbs mind you, but stale, crunchy ones, almost like croutons. And you'll say "I pay $15 a month FOR THIS?!". And the devs will say "Look! NEO!!!!" in order to distract you while they withdraw another $15 from your checking account...

and we don't have a snowball's chance in hell of selling this turd in its current state."

Actually, seeing that they sold like five billion copies of the first shitty Matrix game, I'm afraid that this would still sell pretty well, despite being a turd.

Well, actually, then again, if you, as the Wachowskis

A) Steal the idea for the Matrix to begin with
(http://www.slccglobelink.com/news/2004/10/28/Entertainment/mother.Of.The.Matrix.Victorious-785067.shtml)
B) Rewrite your second and third movie to allow for the existence of the Matrix after the movies, so you can make money of a MMORPG
C) Then have your MMORPG done by a developer that's never done a MMORPG before
D) It looks like shit from every screenshot you've shown

I guess there's not much hope of selling all that many copies.

Honestly the beta is extremly Dull, been in it for quite a while and the only 'fun' part is dueling other players. But even that is a rock paper sissors approach.

And I attempted to play EQ2. I will say the lighting in my little room I rented is kinda nifty for a MMORPG, but all the characters look like Barbie Dolls. Plastic city, plus there is little or no life to the city. I mean I went downstairs from my room at the Inn and someone was talking yet no NPC were visable, and I could see them from the doorway but once I entered the room they dissapeared.
While I am loving WoW and use that for a compairison to EQ2.... EQ2 is also very dull and sparse, while WoW have alot of life to all it's areas. Cartoony? Yes but it's believeable.

I may be the lone naysayer on this one but I've been enjoying the BETA. I've been taking a little time off to play WOW, but I'll go back eventually. Glad they are delaying because there are a few issues they still need to work on...but my opinion right now is, I'll probably buy it. Then again, I also liked the second and third movies.

Wow I think your friend has hit the nail on the head, if he was trying to hammer that is. If I were to hammer I would agree with what he said.

WOW does have a first person view. I expected the cartoony art style to turn allot of people off, but I think its great and each environment sets a nice mood.

I cancelled my Pre-Order.. Well that and Gamestop screwed me out of Beta to which they really meant (Pre-Release). Anyways.. Kill it, or open up the beta and bring the servers to its knees and get good feedback.

This is totally OT, but I ended up picking up EQ2, despite the fact that I shouldn't have picked up another crack-like MMORPG game. Luckily I'm not into the whole Dungeons and Dragons genre, so I probably won't play it nearly as much as I did SWG before I forced myself to quit.

I was looking at WoW, and I really couldn't get over the cartoony graphics. I couldn't bring myself to pick it up. Does WoW have First Person view like EQ2 and SWG has? Being a First Person Shooter player primarily, I require this feature. I hate 3rd person.

What do you veteran MMORPG players think about WoW vs EQ2? I love EQ2's graphics, but the only MMORPG I have ever played was Star Wars Galaxies which I loved. I had to quit though because it was too much like having a second job/life. I want a game, not a digital second life. lol

I wonder if it will suck as much as the 2nd and 3rd movies.

I'm not sure ANYTHING could suck as much as the 2nd and (especially) 3rd movie.

I doubt seriously that your Wal Mart gamer has the horsepower or the ten bucks a month to play this.

Um, it's $15 a month, based on the announcement the other day...
