Chat-O-Rama

PC Gamer is holding an IRC chat with the folks at Gearbox Software today, to discuss Brothers in Arms, their upcoming World War II shooter, in a chat where they are promising "an awesome surprise announcement" at the end. The session will be conducted at 9:00 Eastern time, but moderators will begin accepting questions for the devs a couple of hours before that. Attendees will include Randy Pitchford, Marc Tardif, Col. John Antal (US Army ret.), and Mike Neumann. The hour-long chat will be held in the channel #pcgamer in the Gamesurge IRC network. A web-based interface for the chat can be found here.

Oh, then how is shit anyworse than poo, or fucking as opposed to humping, cock as opposed to penis?

It's because groups like the Parent Television Council try and force their right wing christian agenda on everyone else.

I'm not Christian either, but I try not to swear like a drunk Glasweigan sailor anyways (except playing/watching the footie). 'tis impolite, after all.

Funny how you assume etiquette and propriety in language have anything whatsoever to do with religion.

I think PC Gamer is short for pro christian gaming. They had a stupid swear word filter bot. Fuck that. Word's don't kill, we know guns do. And I'm not christian so I don't have to abide by their rules about speech. I'm gonna make up my own religion and force people to not use certain words cause it offends me.

Az, read my previous post - the demo announcement and the contest were the surprises.

Personally, Randy, I'd love for you guys to give us a ballpark on that demo (as in "we're shooting for not much later than January" or something), but I can never get too impatient with the makers of OpFor.

Edit: Oh, the min specs announcement came out too, which was around 1GHz. I'm making my official guess the Source engine considering GBX's history with Valve, character faces and the related minimum specs. Randy, can we even get a wink or nod in that direction?

DuvalMagic?

Like the unstoppable beast who used to rampage all in Duke3D Modem play in the late 90s on CompuServe? Also known as Mr. Pink?

HL2 has been out for a few weeks. How can you say one crushed the other, unless you're positive 98% of sales are made in the first few weeks?

Additionally, is there even a tracking mechanism for steam sales? Are we sure we arn't just looking at retail sales alone?

Hey - Come to the Gearbox Forums.

I didn't even see your question. There were over 500 people in the chat - I imagine that there were many dozens of questions we didn't even see, let alone have time to answer in a one hour chat.

I don't remember the numbers, but Doom 3 crushed HL2 in sales. And neither are even in the same league as Halo 2.

Last I heard Halo 2 sales were somewhere around 3.3 million so far? Something like that......

I don't think we will see a Halo2 port for awhile. Microsoft won't let people anticipate a PC version of H2 yet because it may cause potential buyers of the console and game to hold off a bit so thier Holiday sales could be at the max. We will see news of the port after the game gets old and stale (just as Halo was when it came to the PC). I haven't even finished Halo2, I don't hate it but it's just not engaging enough to hold my interest with all the other fantastic PC titles available this year. The console fanboys that think this game is the best thing ever don't even realize the superior gaming experiences they are missing on the PC. I really hope all these games that have been released and future games will boost PC gaming through the roof. Does anyone know an accurate figure for the amount of copies sold for HL2? I'm dying to see how close it is to the 5 million Halo2 sold for Xbox. Curious to see how well Doom3 sold as well.

I was just in the chat.

So they just announced a demo is coming "soon", and the big thing is a contest with PCG wherein 3 people get to fly out to GBX's headquarters in Texas, jump out of a plane and play the game with the devs. Details on PCGamer's site.

The questions asked were IMO a waste of time. My question "What restrictions have been put in place as far as gameplay, graphics, and controls, so that co-development for Xbox can take place?"

According to the mod it was a great question and the devs would love answering it. Didn't even get answered.

Gearbox handled the first one, so I'm guessing they'll announce the PC port of "Halo 2".

Oh...boy. How exciting.

After working on five different Half-Life related projects (And having quit the last one the reason of basicly "We want to do something NEW." I wouldn't expect to see them doing anything with Valve other than MAYBE liscencing the source engine for a new game.

That said, a sequal to Op4 would rock.

I'd like to see an announcment concerning Opposing Force 2. That would rock so hard. But you know it's gonna be some lame bullshit nobody cares about but will get all excited anyway.
