UT XMP, the Unreal
Tournament 2004 edition of the expanded multiplayer for Unreal II (thanks
Silvanus and Voodoo
Extreme). Here's how UT XMP is described: "Unreal Tournament: Expanded
Multiplayer will offer intense class-based vehicular action in a range of
stunning alien worlds, where players must manage energy reserves to power their
war machines and battle for the control of four mysterious artifacts. UT XMP
players will be given control over a vast array of all-new fearsome weapons, as
well as mines, turrets and other deadly automated defenses."
This is what UT2004 *shoulda* been in the first place, U2 XMP was kickass.

Played for about 30 minutes, and it still kicks ass. Definitatly early beta, but no real show stopping bugs. Now if only my 3 Mbit cable could sniff out a server with a sub 200 ping time.

Now, it's been ported to UT2k4.

Yup, it may be time to buy UT2k4. XMP was some of the best online play I have experienced. Buggies without nitro feel incomplete, now.
So if Tribes:Vengeance is "just" UT2k4 with jetpacks, what is XMP? 
Tribes without the disc launcher?

Tried it, had no idea what to do. Is there a tutorial anywhere?
There's the manual that comes with the install, but I'm not sure how detailed it gets as far as the actual gameplay goes.
Just hop on a server and start asking questions, I was helping people for a while before HL2DM and Red Orchestra started calling my name again.

I think the original XMP had a tutorial. I imagine the demo did, too, so if you were desperate you could download that and run through that tutorial. This game is worth learning.
