New C&C: Red Alert Game

We received a couple of forwarded copies of a note EA is apparently sending out to old school C&C fans (thanks ASLayerAODsk and kelmar5), revealing that the dream of a continuation of the Red Alert series is at hand. Here's the deal:
Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is enjoying one of the best years ever for PC gaming.

On the eve of one of our own major releases, The Lord of the Rings™, The Battle for Middle-earth™, the one thing we've grown to understand is how important the community - our most loyal supporters - is for industry. This started back in our days at Westwood where the community for our games has always been a big priority. We understand that you are the most important and influential group for us and we are constantly amazed at the amount of talent used to create quality assets and mods.

Having said that, we have a MAJOR announcement to make and we are making it exclusively to our long time C&C fans. This announcement is not going out to the press and it won't appear on the EA website or anywhere else online. We are very proud to announce that the team that brought you Command & Conquer™ Red Alert 2™, Command & Conquer™ Yuri's Revenge™, and Command & Conquer™ Generals has officially started work on our next project set in the Red Alert universe!

As I mentioned, we're very proud to ship what we feel is one of the best RTS games ever released. Most of you have probably heard of The Lord of the Rings™, The Battle for Middle-earth™ which hits stores this week. We've introduced some really innovative features and gameplay mechanics, which you should definitely check out when you get a chance. You will also see a major enhancement to the Sage graphics engine we originally created for Command & Conquer Generals. Expect us to leverage and continue to evolve this powerful engine as we start work on our new Command & Conquer game.

Thanks again for all your support over the years. This entire team is incredibly excited to work on the next Command & Conquer chapter. Look for an official announcement soon and have a wonderful holiday.

If you don't like Westwood or Generals, don't even talk!

I like both Westwood AND Generals. Too bad I simply abhor EA right now. Until their idea of competiton changes from "legally restrict other developers from making good games" to good old-fashioned "make a better product", no game carrying the EA name will get one penny of my money.

If they are going to make any new C&C games.. They need to do one in the original universe. I want Kane and The Brotherhood of Nod. I want the GDI! I still think the best game of the series was the original Red Alert, second would have to be the original C&C. If only they could get back to the core elements that made these two games great but with a good looking engine like generals, then we might have something. But then you see that its being done by someone called EA and you lose all hope...
meh.. sorta excited but not.

C&C Generals and ZH were great games. I still run off some multiplayer action every now and then.

But I am kind of curious where the patches and new maps are...

Yeah, at EA they spell "workhorse" "VP and Executive Producer".

He might not have written it himself, but its his name at the bottom which is good enough for me...

edit:
Im not asking for that, they could have promoted their new game to the new set of suck... customers without putting salt in the wounds of the ones theyve already sqrewed.
They got the money for Generals/ZH, this email only feels like taunting.

LOL this "shithead" is none else but another work horse at EA who has been said to make a catchy BS promotion or esle he will get 50 hours extra work or possibly lose his job if EA managers will have a bad hair day.

No one will ever write something like:

I'm sorry guys, my company fucked ya'll over, for many many times and we're up for it again, I think it sucks and our games are rushed out so all the retarded kiddies can buy them for holiday and then buy the expansion and the sequels so our bosses and shareholder can buy new sports cars for holidays.

Have a good holiday.

I wont... cause I'm stuck here on extra hours to finish off our next game's network code, I'm so darn tired I can barely see wtf I'm tyopiong...

Peace

Does that shithead think we are stupid? The only thing their last game in the genre (Gen/ZH) is famous for is its lack of support and how they left "the community" hanging.

"We understand that you are the most important and influential group for us..."
Did this idiot send the message to the wrong list? He was going for the shareholders list, but accidently sent it to the suckers list?

I wish I had his emailadress so that I could send him an answer...

Renegade's Multiplayer component has always been fun, when it worked. Unfortunately the netcode for the game was so horribly shit-tastic that lag permeated almost every game completely.

I'm glad they've announced another new C&C game, but I mean, come on. A sequel to a successful franchise? Gosh, I never saw that one coming.

Wish their "announcements" weren't so full of campy wording and bullshit.

FWIW, even as a Westwood fan, I thought Renegade sucked. SO close to being fun, but it really wasn't. IMO.

As a probably larger Westwood fan, I thought the storyline was pretty good, and Renegade multiplayer was definately one of the best online games I've played in a while... if they had been able to use a real netcode from someone, it could've been great.

However, single-player was horrendous because the ai was nearly non-existant... while it may have fit the rts-C&C to have minigunners run straight at you while you empty half a clip into their head, it doesn't make for a satisfying FPS experience

The cut secenes were fun and it gives alot to a RTS game like C&C, you cant make a decent story without them, just look at generals SP sucks and MP is buggy.

The B actors have given the series its charm since the beginning. Like the other poster I kept going in RA2 to see what happened to the characters next...and to see how bad their acting got

IMO live actor cutscenes detract from the immersion. If they are going to do that shit again I'll pass.

Heh. We'll never see the days of C&C we all know and cherish! This series completely went down the shitter after Tiberian Sun, well not including RA2 which was solid. And don't even get me started on Generals, which was supposed to be "innovative" as well and turned out to be a subpar RTS with a nice engine, sluggish gameplay, average at best. I want cutscenes, real live actors, a STORY. Red Alert will always be remembered because of the storyline, with pretty good acting by Stalin and his hot secretary chick, not to mention Tanya with her akimbo-pistols. I WANTED to keep playing to see what happend next within the C&C universe, something not alot of games have done with me. Anyway a random rambling but yes, this game will be more of the same crap or newer candy-coated crap.

Waiting with baited breath for Tribes IV, HL3,and F.E.A.RII.

Brothers in Arms? Man, we've had so many World Wars, the population of Earth has been drained several times by now in simulated WW2 battles. Heh. It's a new IP, sure, but it's a clone game, dangit!! We all pray that the squad command system is unique enough to make it worthwhile though. Dunno bout those other games.

Look, go to Gamerankings.com and get the list for the Top 100 games. Nearly everything is a sequel. Now go to imdb.com and get the list for the Top 100 movies. Almost nothing is a sequel. What gives? Sure, games are already beating the movie industry in terms of dollars.. but most people would agree that the film industry's top 100 movies have a lot more originality and uniqueness, than the top 100 games. Finally, what part of the film industry DOES have sequel-itis at the level of the game industry? The porn industry! Super Sluts 15! People used to compare the Doom storylines to a porn movie, well maybe we should be seeing the whole game industry as a form of "violent porn." Repetitive, unoriginal, because there's not a whole lot of different ways of repeating the same theme. And hey! The stereotypical demographics of both industries are pretty similar. Lonely single young men. Hmm i must be onto something. Who knew Mega Man 25 had so much in common with Super Sluts 25?

Personally I enjoyed Generals. Co-op play over a LAN was great fun, except the AI wasn't really up to it. The graphics were good - show me a better RTS graphics, no TA is NOT. It was a modern day RTS - not many of them about, either medieval or futuristic sci-fi, neither of which float my boat. And Zero Hour added a bunch more maps and things that me and my mates all said would be fun - C-130s, MOABs etc.

Was it great? No. It was FAR too easy (though ZH's Generals challenge could be tough), it was FAR too short and it felt like I was watching a propaganda video: protect these supplies for the innocent Baghdad civilians from the evil terrorists etc. That was just tedious, and it actually made me glad there was no FMV US flag waving nonsense. Furthermore there was not one shred of gameplay innovation since C&C:TD in 1995. Well, maybe since Red Alert (planes, etc) but it included no boats. The ONLY new thing about this game (as opposed to old C&Cs) was that you used construction diggers instead of your construction yard. Like every other RTS since the C&C era. The RTS genre is crying out for someone to do what Valve did in 1998 to FPS. AI, new challenges, plausible storyline. It's not like we're short of subject matter from which to take inspiration these days.

FWIW, even as a Westwood fan, I thought Renegade sucked. SO close to being fun, but it really wasn't. IMO.

DOWN WITH THIS GAME AND DOWN WITH EA!!!!!

Games that look promising-

-Stalker
-can't think of anything else.

Oh, by the way regarding Total Annihilation , I believe someone has made a Total Conversion mod for Unreal 2003/2004 for TA...

found it!
http://ua.tauniverse.com/

seems as though the mod is struggling though. Damn! Just think of what they could do if they had more motivation to win that Make Something Unreal contest... [too late I suppose]
