Absolutely true, but think of it this way (in lovely run-on form); we are doing extensive research on cancer and on the genetic elements of sensence, and it's (pardon the pun) the Holy Grail of biological research, and there is a decent, albiet currently unknown, chance that, if you did solve the telomere issue, you would simultaneous solve a number of the other degenerative aspects of advanced age, though almost certainly not all of them.

I mean, if we young adults can make it to, say, 2050 or 2075, I think there's a good chance that by then people will be at least trying to extend life far beyond what seems possible now.

And you can always freeze yourself and pray for really really good nanotech someday.

There's such a thing as a "nuisance payment". Paying in substantially smaller denominations than the total falls into this and your payment can be rejected on that basis.

Maybe it's something a teenager would do. When I was fourteen, I was aware of my own mortality, but I didn't care. Ballooning? Hell yeah!

But I certainly knew when I was doing something 'wrong'. Like murder? If you kill someone and are in your 'teens' and don't realize that it's wrong, then I don't know what to say. Being a teenager isn't an excuse.

I think many kids have a good idea that murdering people is not quite accepted in our society. But then again, the current leader is doing it without recrimination on a mass scale. They're not allowed to vote or watch 'Saving Private Ryan', or watch porn, but it's okay to for their McFlippin Burger earned tax dollars to go to nuclear submarines, tomahawk missiles and bombs.

Might is right, just don't do it at home. No wonder they're confused.

Had to drive from MN to Fort Riley, KS friday after work. Helped someone move, then drove back Saturday.

Got pulled over by one of the MILLIONS of poicia on 35 south. Said I, "didn't dim my lights while I was pulling up behind him" didn't mention that I was going 78 in a 65.

I told him I didn't have my brights on at any time. He replied with, well, you blinded me, so others are probably having the same problem, you need to get that fixed. I said yessir and off I went. No ticket. hehehehe

Funny thing was, he was sitting at the bottom of a hill and I was coming down it....NO SHIT MY LIGHTS LOOKED BRIGHT.

My dad had a cat that jumped on top of a hot wood stove not once, but twice, before he figured out that it was too hot. I guess they feel heat in their paws all right.

Not freaking likely and certainly not anytime soon. None of the advances in medicine to date has done a thing to increase the maximum life expectancy of humans. We are healthier when we are older and have increased the median age of death, but the maximum age hasn't changed.

Work with caloric restriction in mice shows a very moderate increase. The mice look are healthier up until they die, but still kick the bucket at the same time the oldest mice on a normal diet die. About the best result I've seen is nematodes that undergo gonadal ablation and are calorically restricted. If I remember right, they live about 3x longer. So cut off your nuts and starve yourself and you may live 200 or 300 years, but then again you will probably consider that 300 years too many. I'll keep my nuts and die young.

I remember I went to visit my aunt in England and their cat had an acident with the space heater, her tail got alittle too close to the element and started on fire... there she was walking around the room with a little flame on the end of her tail until my dad with the newspaper saw her and swated out the flame with his paper... i must say it was quite shocking, but the cat didnt even notice so it was all gewd!

Your story reminded me of one in my family. My mother had this Burmese cat that was ALWAYS cold. One day, my mother was prepping steaks to go in the broiler of the oven.

(In case anyone doesn't know what a broiler is...) On US ovens (not sure if the whole world is like this), there's a small slide out tray at the bottom front of the oven, right above the floor. You set the oven to "Broil" and it's a place to cook steaks (not the best, like on a grill, but that's not the point of this story). You pull the door open, put your steaks on the (removable) tray, close it, and they cook.

ANYWAY...my mother had this door open , had the oven set to broil, and had the tray on the top of the oven, putting the steaks on the tray. She finishes, and as she's about to slide the tray back into the broiler, SOMETHING goes shooting out of the broiler at a very high speed.

That something was the Burmese cat. Apparently he was cold, wandered by at the wrong moment, and wandered into the broiler. Amazingly, he was no worse for the wear, other than all the fur on his back was singed (which, as I was a kid at the time, thought felt REALLY funny, compared to how cat hair usually feels)...

The cat went on to live a normal life, but it took a year or two for all the singed fur to grow out...

In fact it can be inferred from tha article that the teenage group performed equally in assesing how dangerous the situation was as the adults, as their was no major descrepancies between the groups other than the time taken to process the event, and certainly not a faliure to understand the consequences.

Therefore Teenagers who commit murder are guilty of two things (Being mentally slower than adults by 1'ish seconds, and of killing a person) and are fully aware of their actions consequences.

Therefore they should fry.

Try a ceramic space heater. They cost a little more, but they crank out the heat without becoming so hot to the touch. I don't know how - - it's a mystery of the ages ...
