Dealer Announced

Dealer: Chronic, Pills & Coke is a newly announced PC, Xbox, and PS2 game from Nagual Games that puts the player in the role of an illegal drug dealer, a project that seems destined to gain notoriety based on its content. Describing the game as a GTA-style third-person driving and shooting affair, here's a bit on this future favorite of Senator Leiberman and Jack Thompson, Esquire:
The aim is to build up a prosperous, illegal distribution network with one of the four completely different players available, then the player might expand the business by buying a drug lab, a cellar to grow mushrooms or even a marijuana plantation. The extra money the player earns can be spent on extraordinary cars, weapons and luxurious properties, etc. The main character can even become a pimp and run a whore house.

At least it's not yet another WWII game, Vietnam game, sci-fi game, fantasy game, etc. etc.

My only question is... is this what it takes to get a game noticed these days? And I wonder what would happen if this game featured state-of-the-art DirectX 9 level graphics, Hollywood-calibre voice talent, and gameplay that somehow expands and builds upon GTA...

(probably would still tank, just like that JetLi PS2 game)

Ok, now that my inner fanboy is done, my inner troll tells me this game will likely turn out to be shit. 3 separate ports from some no-name developer? (Didn't turn up much with a Google search) Maybe they could sell this over Steam.

Just love how all you tight-assed pricks are bashing the game based on the premise and a webpage... fucking nazis. It's a shitty world outside, go take a look once in a while.

"Equating violent crimes like rape and pedophilia to selling drugs is exactly the kind of flawed logic ..."

Dude. I am 100% against the war on drugs and I'm glad that there are dealers out there. I don't have a moral issue with people selling drugs. This game, however, is glorifying the violence associated with dealing drugs. Equating drug-related violence with rape and pedophilia is fair game in my opinion. Selling drugs is one thing, the violence that comes with it is another. I couldn't give a rat's ass about the content of this game, but you lost me on your point.

I'm a huge fan of the GTA games and this game doesn't sound a whole lot different. This one just sounds pretty uninspired in my opinion.

Well it looks like these Hungarian guys are making the game for a very specific audience. I wonder if will be as controversial as Postal 2 or Manhunt. ESRB probably won't like it and good luck to them finding a north american publisher.

lol, ironic isn't it, the posters above will DEFEND being able to beat a woman to death in a game, yet scream in PROTEST if a game allows someone to smoke a joint.

I think that's mainly because GTA wasn't a shite game designed purely to gain publicity through being controversial.

Just look at 'Hooligans' for another example.

Sony and MS would have to agree to license this before this bunch could make an X-Box or PS2 game. I seriously doubt that will happen. If not because of the content then just because it is so amateurish.

...and, thank you! Now we can close this thread. You sir, are correct.

Believe me, Sony and X-Box don't just automatically license every third rate game that people try to pawn off on them. Sure, some of them suck but they turn down a whole lot worse.

People are jumping the gun a bit here. Not that I'm a fan of MS or Sony, but this game doesn't have a snowball's chance of getting licensed by either of them.

the really successful dealers dont do drugs (maybe a joint or so), they are pure business men.... street thugs are different tho

i doubt this game will see the light of day - it would be funny as hell if it became a GOTY tho

Certainly the game will suck but all you oh so moral gamers that are acting like this offends your sensitive natures or like this game will lead to the end of human society really need to use your brains. Equating violent crimes like rape and pedophilia to selling drugs is exactly the kind of flawed logic that has enabled the US federal government to use your tax dollars to wage an unwinnable war on drugs that has bloated our prison system and clogged our courts with nonviolent offenders and addicts that might actually be helped by counseling but receive non in prison.

Hell yeah! Now pass that shit over here... It's my turn. *pffft*

And if its the inevitable censorship you’re worried about and what it means to games that might not suck, call your congressmen and tell them to fight Lieberman or whoever when they try to censor games. You don’t fight censorship by preemptively censoring people. You don’t win obscenity cases by plea barging.

Oh and you fight crappy games that rely on controversy to sell product by not buying them.

Y'all are getting bent out of shape way too easily. I bet you all didn't go off like this when GTA was released. I think it sounds somewhat interesting... at least different from all the other games being released lately. I want to see how it plays before I make my judgment.

I agree. You folks are uptight. Are we that afraid of censorship that we begin to think like the censors ourselves? Are we living in the panopticon or what?

That said, after perusing the website and reading the semi-coherent and bland-sounding gameplay descriptions, I doubt this will be any good, but not on account of the subject matter.
