"THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER" screams the
Ensemble Studios Website in what is presumably a tease for the imminent
announcement of Age of Empires 3. Thanks
HomeLAN Fed.
oh shut up you sad, pathetic, pale-faced loser. if the game is good i dont care how many times they re-do it. now go and get one of those "life" things you have heard so much about.:D
Seriously, Ensemble studios needs to start doing something new. Age of Empires, Age of Empires 2, Galactic Battlegrounds, Age of Mythology (did I miss any?)
We've seen it. It was fun. It isn't fun anymore. I don't want to advance through another age. Do something new.
Alternatively, get bought by Eidos, and make a Shellshock version of Age of Empires...
So RoN is good? I recently got into strategy games, and have been seeing the gold edition of that around, and thought it looked pretty decent. Worth picking up then?
Oh, hell yeah...I was really getting burnt out on RTS games until I played RON...
F all this crap where is Elite 4. oh you never heard of that huh. AOK is not the best game of all time lol niether was Quake2, but Xcom, Elite,Dungeonmaster. there are your best games of all time. lol AOK
Rise of Nations was like super AoE, so I will be comparing AoE3 to RoN.

One of my fond memories of early RTS playing was that of a six hour game of Age of Empires, where all the gold had been mined, and we were throwing units that required only meat/wood at each other. Eventually someone figured out how to make gold by trading with the docks, and I followed suit building myself a nice set of cataphracts as shock troops.
Oddly enough, I never played Age of Empires 2, I'm not sure why, perhaps because I was still enthralled with StarCraft at the time.
Age of Empires and (especially) Age of Kings were two of the best RTS titles ever made. Anyone who compares the latter to Age of Myth needs to get themselves checked out mentally. AoK had a score of playable civiliations, with unique architecture, unique units and technology, and unique playing styles...years ahead of its time. I still play it. AoM had only three that seemed like more only because they gave you frivolous options, and most games were ridiculously quick and boring. It went into the gaming box after a few days.
And the Age series can't be compared to the Total War or Myth series in any fashion.
Am I the only one waiting for a spiritual successor to the Myth series? Myth 3 pretty much sucked, but the gameplay model (relatively small groups of units that can be controlled as individuals, and no resource farming/unit production aspect) is one of my favorites of all time.
To me, these games never involve all that much "strategy" and a whole lot of what amounts to zerg rushing..
