WoW Launches

The World of Warcraft Community Site (thanks Frans) reflects on the launch of Blizzard's highly anticipated MMORPG in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. The update admits to problems created by the rush of new WoW players, and offers some suggestions on how to circumvent launch issues in the short-term as they work "around the clock to ensure we can smooth out this initial rush, and we will be working through Thanksgiving to address the latency issues that players are experiencing."

Actually, Zurra posted the following
"EQ2 is the superior game"

And the rest is posted as a 'run-through' of the games appearing to be factual comparison although in reality it is a poor attempt at camuflaging a heavily slated 'EQ2 is better than WoW and here is why' posting.

If you dislike EQ2 simply because of SOEs reptuation you do yourself a disservice

Actually, I would say you're a smart person who refuses to pay more money to Sony until they wisen up their shit. But, because so many people will simply keep pumping money into Sony even though they basically turn right around and rape you with it, they see no reason to change. Hence, the cycle continues.

Other than that, I think Zura posted a nice summary of why he likes EQ2 over WoW. But, as many posts over the past month or so have shown us, it is in fact illegal to have a different opinion from certain people on this message board. I'll refrain from throwing in the political angle.

EQ and WoW cater to two different crowds on the extreme ends. Both are good games. I am currently playing EQ and plan on getting WoW real soon. A see a few people doing this.

EQ seems to appeal to cooperative but serious play. On launch there seems to be a ton of things to see and explore. If people are camping something, I feel they are wasting thier time not actually seeing the rest of the game. But people are usually the only problems I have in these games. Right now in EQ2, everyone is learning no one has taken over any servers yet, however I see the fringes of the uber-guilds coming in slowly. The only other problem I had before I got another 512MB RAm was zoning. It took minutes to zone sometimes with just 512 in my system to start, and it would get slower.

Overall though, the EQ2 experience has been good. Just so much to see and do. The moment I have to camp to do something, is the day I leave the game. I left the first EQ in a month due to this and people's attitudes.

WoW on the other hand is much more fast paced, but has less depth. I really want WoW for the PvP aspects. I can care less for killing mobs or doing quests here, but I will have to suffer through them as I did in DAoC to get to the good stuff. Even on the highest graphic settings, I was not even able to make WoW flinch. This will be good in PvP battles, and a bonus for the game overall.

So, WoW for people smashing. EQ for lots of things to see and do without worries.

I'm sure both will have thier share of jerks. But thats true with any online annoymous community (just that the EQ1 uber-gear jerks stand out more than others).

Dag, I'll use your language: You're an idiot.

Technically if you were using his language you'd call him a fucking tard. Possibly: a fucking tard newb kiddie fanboi.

Just saying.

EQ2 is designed to keep you playing until you hit max level - so make it harder to level. Evercrack v2. I think Blizzard are just hoping that they'll keep people sufficiently interested that they'll hang around even though it's easy to level to max. (virtually impossible not to reach 60 if you put the time in.) I expect the max levels in WOW to reach 80 within a year or so of release. Once they get the low level game sorted they'll open it up with expansions, just like EQ v1 and everyone else.

Dag, I'll use your language: You're an idiot.

Since you have problems understanding the writings of your native tongue and the concept of sarcasm, I'll go ahead and wrap this up by saying your points make no sense, you contradicted yourself multiple times, and when you totally lost it, you started fabricating points until all you had to say were insults. I'm done with trying to deal with your willful ignorance and abusive tone.

And before it gets said, no, I won't go and duel your e-penis characature on WoW or EQ.

Toodles and sorry for anyone else reading this crap.

It means you respect death more, you also share exp debt when others in your group die. EQ is more hardcore, that doesnt mean its more advanced. Your confusing difficulty with content, it takes much longer to level, you suffer greater penalties on death, the economy is very tight with lots of money sinks to keep money at a minimum, etc. I agree EQ2 is harder, but you cannot fault it for that, its intentional by the dev's.

I've hardly ever had downtime in WoW, but in EQ2 I have had a lot of it. [not to mention corpse runs].

Yes, even death is better in WoW. (In that they actually do something new instead of just making you respawn at the ZONE ENTRANCE or another SELECTED spot and then give you "THE SHARD QUEST!" where you have to follow the blinking dots on the ground [waypoint] [so instead of having thousands of questions - anybody seen my corpse, you get "anybody know how to enable waypoints?! Being that EQ2 is so friendly towards newbies and all. that is, assuming you even see them typing thanks to the chat interface] to find your corpse before yuo ressurect with a XP penalty, a group XP Penalty AND a item durability penalty.

In WoW on death you turn into the 'ghost' world and you appear at the closest graveyard. [Wow, its actually somehow "coherent" unlike plastic-game] and you either choose to ressurect through the ghost-dude (I never used him) (But you take a Durability penalty) or you find your corpse, and you do not have to stand right on top of it - (if you die in the middle of a spawn its kinda hard to get back to your corpse in EQ2 since you have to get really close) - and you press your ressurect button.. *pow* you're back and you had a 10% durability hit, no xp penalty, no group xp penalty.

I guess for some that must mean that EQ2 is "MORE ADVANCED" since you get those penalties etc.

You wanna know why Im hostile towards you?

Dagok, wtg! Hypocrisy suits you

Like any word, fanboy depends on the context in which it is used. Blind worship may be a more soothing description for you, but it covers the gist of it.

You called me a hypocrite when I wasn't being one, and then said I was blindly worshipping...something, appearently EQ2 and again you were incorrect in your statement. Calling someone a hypocrite, especially when you are not correct, is an insult in all cultures I'm familiar with.

So not only are you a dumbass that can't comprehend others posts, you are a dumbass that doesn't even remember he has insulted someone, and then questions why that person is so hostile.

RESPECT! Woot!

You are still a complete dumbass that just doesn't get it, nor can you read. You even admitted to not comprehending what I posted...
My bad. I could of sworn you did jump in on that type of conversation and did indeed start flaming.

RESPECT! Woot!

I'm the one with mental issues when I just stated that I wasn't calling you a fanboy, that I knew you weren't calling me a fanboy, and that I was merely making a comment on the issue of words vs. their context. Get a grip. Calm down, re-read what was written. It's amazing, I haven't insulted you or reduced the conversation to low levels yet you feel this hostility towards me.

Again, learn to fucking read. I said I wasn't going to get into a flamefest about which game is better, and I still havent and I wont.

My bad. I could of sworn you did jump in on that type of conversation and did indeed start flaming. I guess if you get technical, you flamed me for... well, I'm really unsure about that. It still seems like you initiated some hatefest for no apparent reason.

As for 'pwn' points having an effect, hard to say; it seems something sure had an effect on you. Unless you're this uncivil and abusive to everyone else.

Anyway, WoW is a sweet game. Two thumbs up!

Much like you're fanboy rant, which had nothing to do with my previous post, or myself,

Uhhm hey fucking retard...I was refering to Instant, I even refered to him by name...the person who actually used the word "fanbois" not you, you dumbass. Like I said, reading comprehension...you might learn something instead of assuming Im talking about you when Ive already stated I was talking about someone else.

More 'pwn' points for employing the 'respect' remark! Keep those personal attacks coming! However, you DID decide to jump in on my post in particular (does that infer respect for me). You're not going to get into a flamefest, yet you redress me for taking the same general stance you purport? Do you not understand what hypocrite means?

Please reply so I know I am respected by you.

Again, learn to fucking read. I said I wasn't going to get into a flamefest about which game is better, and I still havent and I wont. I also said I save debates (specifically WoW vs EQ2) for people I respect. However there is no debate as to you being an idiot so I will post plenty to remind you. You are an ignorant dumbass that can't comprehend what he reads, nor can he decipher what was posted regarding his comments, and what parts were directed to someone elses comments.

To simplify this so you can understand easilly enough:
Instant is a "fanbois" dumbass.
SmyTTor is a uncomprehensible dumbass.
Dagok does not respect dumbasses.

BTW, do you really think your stupid 'pwn' points means anything or has any affect on me? Just makes you look like an even bigger idiot than you already are.

Zurra,
Well I highly disagree about all of WoW's Quests as I went from level 10 to level 11 completly from the exploration I had to do from 1 quest and there was no combat involved.

Another thing that is failed to mention about EQ2, is that you WILL have to turn the graphics down quite a bit to do raids etc. While I applaud them for all the options to make the game look incredible, in reality you won't be seeing it when you go raiding unless your standing in the corner with everything on high just to take screen shots.

And tactics? The Same Tactics will not work on all enemy's in WoW, as they are resistant to some and others are not.

And the Quests being limited is partially true, but then again on my long journey quest I picked up about 10 more quests that I'll return to once I get a little bit higher, and there are quite a few npc's I didn't even talk to cause of time. Also does EQ2 let you choose your Quest Reward? Do the noobie area mobs drop stuff you can actually use like weapons and armor? Does EQ2 have quests that start buy stuff you either find in a little hidden alcove or cave or dropped off a mob?

And overall graphics wise WoW has a set style that goes throughout the entire game. Yeah it's a little cartoony but never once have I seen anything that is out of place.

At higher levels mobs die quickly? Um go to fileplanet and check out the Dragon video that was done. 3 guilds and a handfull of other people got a dragon down to something like 68 percent before the dragon went airborn and slaughtered everyone.

I'm not knocking EQ2 but for someone who's said they've played both games extensivly you seem to have a very shortsided and incorrect observation of WoW.

Dark, that's your opinion based on your criteria. I stated my opinion based on my criteria. That was my whole point. Good lord. I assumed I wouldn't have to explain things in strictly black and white talk. Assumptions always seem to have a way of coming back to bite you in the ass I guess.

Dag

Much like you're fanboy rant, which had nothing to do with my previous post, or myself, I decided I would expound upon it. I never called you one. Don't get so defensive. I'm not the one loading up the "pwn" tabulator.

Go back to school and learn reading comprehension, please.

Hehehe. There's that awesome 'english grammar' ploy. I would award kudos if it hadn't been mentioned earlier. Maybe the '1's and 0'2' gambit next?

Fact is, I am currently playing both games, and enjoying both games. I'm not going to get into some "my game is better than your game" flamefest with the kiddies on Blues News of all places. I save those conversations with people I actually have some respect for.

Again, in black and white for those who don't like the grey, I like WoW. I didn't say it was a better game than EQ. I said it was the better game FOR ME. ME. FOR- ME. The post I initially replied to was masked in some condescending attempt to invalidate WoW with opinions presented as facts and somehow covert those poor Blizzard blinded heathens to the glory of the almighty EQ. Damn, there I go getting grey again. Anyway, take the time to reread, people. I don't play either of the games, but I love to type, really.

Please reply so I know I am respected by you.

Zurra makes some very valid points but many of them are a matter of opinion. Things such as art direction and the like. After seeing EQ2 in action I can say that the graphics are very good and the spell effects (particles) look amazing as well, for a MMORPG. As far as artistic/creative direction goes I think WoW has EQ2 beat. EQ2 just has that generic-ish design that doesn't appeal to me. I didn't get a chance to sit down with the game so gameplay mechanics and the like, I can't offer anything on.

One thing he/she failed to mention though is PvP! This is the biggest selling point for me and the reason why I'll be picking up WoW tomorrow now that, hopefully, most of the server issues have been addressed. I like the hardcore style of play and I had an absolute blast playing racial PvP on the open beta for WoW. I really think Sony should've taken the time to include at least some form of basic PvP instead of devolving into purely PvE type gameplay. If EQII had PvP, then my choice probably would've been leaning more towards EQII, as I played the original for 4 years before getting sick of it.

SmyTTor alot of the shit you said about why you love WoW is exactly the same for EQ2 (no downtime for instance, which, and I dont know how you could miss this if you played EQ2 like you said you did (lol), is almost non-existant in EQ2 as well, its timed to about exactly the same as WoW downtime, about 30 seconds after a major fight)

What else...great auction system: check, always fast paced: check, built in loot rules: check, tradeskill innovations: check (events happen during tradeskills that you must counter or lose durability and even die if your stupid enough to not pay attention to them).

Its harder to solo in EQ2, but its possible, I can solo evens at 20ish, and I get about 1/2 the exp I would in a group setting, seems fair to me.

EQ2 is much more of a timesink, not because of downtime, which you seem to think, but simply because leveling is much much slower then WoW.
