Raids are when a bunch of people get together to fight something. Like another town, or a big monster for 13 hours to get 1 item(if you live)
GuildsWars and Farcry look better than EQ2 and run faster.
I do agree that the models in WoW could be nicer.. The clothes sometimes look they are superglued to you. A Gnome hunter makes more sense than a Gnome warrior. And range limits for hunters is silly.

I'm running WoW Maxed out completely and it looks godlike and amazing.

Sorry but the graphics in wow suck. The landscape and cities are somewhat nicely done but the models are mostly simple and childish, as are most textures. Just take a look at barrels. Horrible. But still it brings over the roleplaying feeling much better than anything else MMO I ever played. Thats why I took it over eq2.

Graphics whores like me go to Lineage 2 and EQ2. Blizzard will never make a game that contains new graphics technology, as their fanbase majorly consist of low-end PC gamers (which is not necessarily a bad thing, as it sky rockets their profits.) 'nuff said

As far as framerate goes, everyone knows Sony Online Entertainment can't code a graphics engine with acceptable framerates if their life depended on it (SWG anyone?) And Blizzard has no 3d design experience whatsoever unless they recently hired a slew of new employees. Wouldn't surprise me if it ran sluggish even when low poly.

I like L2's unreal warfare engine (excellent framerate even when 200+ people are on the screen at one time.) Same goes for city of heroes.

Could be worse, the local EB here always sells things a day or more late. They wouldnt sell Doom3 on the day it was supposed to, so I had to look elsewhere, same with WoW

EQ2 engine blows. It looks great in screenshots or maybe on a PC in the year 2006. It runs like crap, to get it acceptable to play it, it looks like complete garbage. I'm running WoW Maxed out completely and it looks godlike and amazing. The shading effects are a nice touch. While it may not have the crazy advance crap EQ2 has, it has style and runs perfect. Blizzard supports what they released. EQ2 is not for now. EQ2 is also very boring IMO. Amen to the WoW CE contents as well. Valve HL2 CE can eat my ass.

Well, as was said, EQ2 has the best and biggest gfx settings ever seen in a game. You can configure absolutely everything. Everyone can get it to run smothly.

To each their own. I've seen EQ2 and wasn't very impressed. The engine has the ability for the awesome graphics but sony lacks the talent of the Blizzard team. The game just doesn't look quiet 'right' for some reason to me. Yeah, WOW's engine is behind tech speaking but look at what they were able to do with it. You really feel part of the world with it instead of paper cutouts.
Just my opinion.

I don't play MMOs, but I have to ask:
What is a "raid" and how can one last for 13 hours? Do you have to be online for all 13 hours straight?

Would you guys say EQ2 is a heavy time sink like EQ1 was? I hear horror stories about 13 hour raids and whatnot...

No one outside of the devs/friends and family has done the super high-level raids yet, but I wouldn't rule out 13 hour raids. At the moment (level 23) the gameplay is much faster paced than it was in EQ. The downtime isn't as short as it is in WoW, but it's not frustratingly long either.

I suppose the bottom line is that long raids are probably going to be there for the people who enjoy that sort of thing. But for the non-hardcore player, there's plenty of content that isn't long and drawn out. EQ2 is a big timesink relative to WoW, so weigh that when you make your decision. I went with EQ2 because I liked its depth, but that may not be the choice for you. Pick what works for you.

Lucked out and one of the local EB's had a copy. Now let me tell ya for 80 bucks I got a BIG ASS HEAVY BOX OF PURE EXTRA GOODNESS! Vivendi, I hope you all choke and die on the Half Life 2 CE.

The Full game on CD and DVD, Bonus DVD, Soundtrack, Art of Warcraft (which is amazing piece of artwork just thumbing through it) a 10 day free pass for anyone ya want to give it to, a NICE cloth map with a bronz'ish ring rollled up around it, plus a nice big thick manual I can kill small children with if I decide to do so

Kinda sad when all I got from the Half Life 2 CE was the DVD, a T-shirt and a piece of paper with the controls.

So where are all the Blue Forums people playing we need to start a group/clan/whatever... 'Blues Fugatives' or sumthin

I haven't been in an MMO launch this bad since Anarchy Online. I've been waiting in the login queue for 50 minutes and it says approximately 55 more to go. Of course it said 55 minutes to begin with, so who knows if I'll ever get to play.

Well, as was said, EQ2 has the best and biggest gfx settings ever seen in a game. You can configure absolutely everything. Everyone can get it to run smothly.

In my case, I got 3.4Ghz, 1024 DDR PC4000, GF FX 6800 U overclocked. I run normaly on High quality when I run around in the big cities and Very high quality when I'm outside in the open. Sometimes I even run Ultra high, but it's just for show(and a GREAT show it is!). It even says in the settings that no existing computer right now is able to run it. In some areas like very foggy swamp forests I need to set it down to Balanced, which is the recommended medium gfx quality overall.

But yes, for those with less then a stellar rig, they will not run this game with all the bells and whistles.

And to really appreciate the graphics you need to see it in motion. Screens dont do it justice.

"How is the frame rate for you? I've read several reviews that have been highly critical and how poorly the engine runs, especially considering it doesn't look nearly as good as other games that run better."

EQ2 looks pretty impressive to me. I was having framerate issues when I first got into Qeynos. My PC had 512Megs, and I up it to 1gig and the problems went away (seemed liked the game was hammering the hard drive a lot until then).

I'm enjoying EQ2. Not terribly interested in WoW: Battle.Net was not the bastion of security, and, truthfully, I don't really trust Blizzard that much because of those problems.

Still, I'll see how WoW goes. But got too many games as it is.

The honeymoon period begins, and the fans will rejoice.. until 2 weeks later they realise that WoW is just another treadmill MMO with a fancy interface, and they'll go back to playing CS.

I alllmost went with this one, even joined a Guild.

Then I remembered the phenomenal numbers of weekends I blew on the last MMOG I played. Never again.

Well I got collector's edition. THank god I preordered. The guy infront of me was with his wife. He asked if they got the CE and they said sold out. I'm next up in line. Getting worried if the Preorder ones also went out the door because no more behind them where they had them. The cashier asks the boss guy and he says in the back, whispering to her. I get it and go home happy. Awesome game. Loving it. Had very bad lag issues when first started and overpopulation issues. Now that I'm out of those areas, no problems since. WooOOOoO!

Just got back from EB and they were sold out!

Did they mention "You should have preordered"? If so, they weren't really sold out... they were just teaching you a lesson. I'm really only half joking; I've heard stories.

Not to rub it in, but I just grabbed the game at Fry's Electronics. I enjoyed the stress test enough but didn't have time to play in the open beta, so the game will still be rather fresh for me.

especially considering it doesn't look nearly as good as other games that run better.

Uhh, like what? It has every nifty graphical-whiz bang that any other game has at the moment.

You really have to see EQ2 in action to get a feel for the graphics. Let me tell you, they're damn impressive. Watching someone run through a field as they leave a wake of waving grass behind them is really nice. Or the rippling water as you run through it. And some of the spell effects are incredibly cool.

I'm running the game on the balanced setting and it runs fine. (considering I have a 2-year old system) There's plenty of eye candy even though some features are turned off. The great thing about the engine is that you can customize EVERYTHING. There are entire sections in the options menu for water, particles, textures, flora, etc. It's quite easy to make the game playable at the expense of a little eye candy.

here are my specs for reference:
AMD 2600
1 gig ram
9700 Pro
