They probably changed the lag then.

I had such lags all the time in the beta, but I learned pretty fast that the system didnt allow me to take more damage while I lag (at least not from monsters I engaged. So I simply went to a safe spot (while still lagging) and waited there until the lag passed (I probably always ran out of the aggro range of the engaged monster, like you do when you simply run away). I could even stand right before monsters while I lagged and do /chicken, /laugh etc for a while, and I still didnt get aggro when the lag was gone.

I should get my copy tomorrow. Lets hope the lag wont be as bad then.

Two scenarios:

  • The system seems to partially base combat off of whatever it last knew. If you start combat and do not land a strike before you lag (you miss, the monsters hits first,) then the system only has a record of you being hit and you doing nothing in return. You can run around all you want, but once the system corrects itself, it realizes you have been getting attacked for the last five minutes and should be dead. It has no record of your movement nor of you ever hitting the monster back.

  • Did you play yesterday? For that period, I am not joking about the time frame. You would literally get thirty seconds of play, lag out for three to five minutes, get a minute of play, lag, etc. If you are in mob areas, which I needed to be to do my quest, this can be lethal. I am here, nothing going on. Uh oh, lag. Meanwhile, the server is spawning a monster. Meanwhile the monster is right in front of you and attacking you. All this time, you are just stuck in an empty area with nothing going on (note the mobs do not display when the server lags.) Just as above, the server jumps ahead to correct itself and says "Hey stupid, you are dead - you stood in front of that mob for five minutes doing nothing - p\/\/n3d!," killing you in the process.
As I said, death by lag.
Feeling like I am leveling a bit faster, yet having a bit less money,
Ray

How did you die because of lag?
I had lag all the time in the beta, but never died because of it. Had my hard worked spawn order screwed up, thats all.
Seriously, when I had lag I simply moved to a location where no monsters came to, even if I had to run through 100s of mobs to get there. I never got aggro. Lag is awesome for exploring high level areas, you just dont want to have the lag go away while doing so.

Bah - I cannot even log in. I either stay stuck with a full loading bar or I get the "This character already exists" message thingie.

COME ONE, COME ALL

If you are playing on a Pacific server, play on Kilrogg and send RaymArden a message. Even this confused gnome dwarf knows to play on the Pacific servers!
Or go Central as Horde and kill Matthew.
Having had six deaths today, all attributed to lag,

Only 3 minutes Ray? You lucked out. I was getting around 10-20 minutes. I'd go play on my GC, see if I was able to ressurect, rinse, repeat. The thing that frustrates me is I loved the game in beta. As for skill broken with warrior, its the same with rogue, and to a lesser degree mage. I dont get how people can play either of those considering how frustrating they are to play (like the amount of times you miss, whats with that???). Any westcoasters playing this game besides myself?

Not to Blizzard: Having three minutes of lag to thirty seconds of game time is not fun.

You can not switch characters between servers.

Anyway, screw all of you then, Matthew. I am level thirteen and no way am I going through all that again, especially since this is all a repeat of what I did before.

I would speculate that you intentionally picked a crowded server so as to avoid my ongoing harassment wonderful comradeship!

Meanwhile, WTF is up with the skills, particularly the warrior? Ok, you do have different stances, but...maybe they are different...maybe they are the same...we are still sorting that all out...

Still disliking the skill non-point system,
Ray Whom actually got down to 160ms today

Yup, it costs you $1.49 an hour, payable monthly

We have a four day weekend starting in about (looks at watch).. I'm going to have a hard time NOT getting a MMOG..

I tried WoW with the beta off FilePlanet, and I liked it... but I kind of would like something deeper. Maybe EQ2.. man this is rough. Sure with they had had a demo for it.

I suppose fifty bucks thrown away isn't the worst thing in the world.. I surely have done it plenty in the past with MMOGs I don't play anymore...

Crumb. Sight unseen into another SOE game. I just never learn.

We can switch servers, right? That "More info" note today basically states that, as far as I understand. Perhaps down the road, if I can get Dagok and friends to come , I can move to the heathen servers once the player limit is increased.

You can create characters on any server in any region - eight characters per server.

You can not switch characters between servers. Blizzard has stated that while it is possible to do so they have no plans to offer the service.

Played for 2 hours last night. Between levels 8 and 9. Grouped with Halsy and I think SMA for about an hour. I really think that leveling goes faster at these lower levels when you play solo.

We should have a guild name and charter some time next week. Apparently Blizzard is dealing with some issues regarding guild charters:

There are a few issues with guild charters at the moment. If you're planning on making a guild, keep these in mind:

The guild charter will disappear if the holder logs out or switches continents. Make sure you have time to be online or have your guildmates already gathered when you go to make your charter.

Also, be wary of signing multiple charters. The first charter turned in will go through, but every other charter that you sign will give the error "That guild name already exists" when you turn it in. Please be mindful of what you sign. :)

So I think the wait will be worth it.

I was on the EQ2 beta. I was on the WoW beta. I bought WoW. I will not buy EQ2.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. EQ2 looks and feels like it was made by a bunch of guys punching a time-clock. No life, no feeling, blah. I mean, really blah.

To rearrange what someone else said "WoW wins in every department. no contest". So you see, they're opinions. Cheese likes EQ2, I like WoW. How does this help anyone? Do you REALLY want to take advice on a game with a monthly fee from a couple of goofballs on a forum?

Too bad that SOE didn't have an open beta to let everyone kinda test and see if they liked the game. The only way you can do it is to actually buy the game and try it. If you don't like it, you're out $50.

Actually Gojo, I was talking about the graphics SETTINGS. I meant that there are alot of options to configure. I realized a long time ago that some people like eq2 and some wow, and arguing about whitch one is best is less then pointless.

I like WoW and EQ2, just that EQ2 suits me more.

Edit: oh yeah, and talking NPC's sure do ALOT for EQ2.

Yea, says servers will be back up in 30min. The game is fun and I'll play WoW and EQ2 both for awhile, then decide on one or the other. But so far, EQ2's launch day was much smoother than this. I already didnt like the torrent p2p patch system, but hearing about full servers with waiting queues to get in game...that is kinda ridiculous.

Doubt I'll be able to control a server change, they have like 15 people joining this server to create a guild, and I only know a couple of the people, so I have no say in getting them to change servers.

  • Very sad on my part, but I am playing WoW on my meager 26.4 connection. Let's not discuss my latency, but I can definitely solo and chat with a slight delay.

  • WoW's graphics can be broken down in two. Looking at pure design, the graphics are really good; they will grown on you over time, they are consistent, each land is different, there are a lot of little touches, etc. On a technical aspect, the game is a joke; limited view distance, textures are relatively clean yet low in resolution, it is kind of like playing in a giant Mario 64 world (lots of big, flat polygons,) Blizzard should be slapped for how little character creation there is, etc.

  • The one saving grace of the big, lower-resolution polygons and textures is that the game runs fairly well. The game ran well in the first stress test and it runs even better now at retail. Still, for us graphics whores, it is a bitter pill to swallow. But as noted, the overall design does grown on you.

  • Got up to level seven, almost eight, before major lag spikes. The server cannot currently find my character so I am presuming things are down. I will check back in a bit.

  • I did try joining the unwashed heathen masses' server in the Central zone, but it had a backlog of 350 people and about sixteen minutes. I ended up opting for a Pacific server, the one under the name of "Kilrogg." I did bump into Dagok (w00t) in the n00b zone and we were chatting a bit, but I have not seen anybody else.

  • Maybe I did something wrong, but it seems like the game overwrote my capitalization. It is bad enough that I cannot even use spaces, but I wanted to at least use a name of "RaymArden" to imply a first/last name that was not quite the same as my own. Typing that into the character box......everything got flattened and my character is just name "Raymarden." It is not a huge thing, but heaven forbid Blizzard let me at least do that. :(

  • We can switch servers, right? That "More info" note today basically states that, as far as I understand. Perhaps down the road, if I can get Dagok and friends to come :o, I can move to the heathen servers once the player limit is increased.

  • FFS, stop this! Too much to play. PoP out in a week (PC.) Riddick a week after that. Amost done with HL2 and VtM-B, but still MGS3 and MP2:E. AAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH! It hurts...but in a good way. :D

  • The only thing that would make my panda cooler was if it looked even dorkier. ;)

Edit:
  • I do need to, again, mention what a CE that is. The moment you pick that sucker up, you feel how heavy and stuffed with gaming goodness it is. In retrospect, it does show how much Valve was trying to push the "Gold" Steam package and/or be a bee-yatch with VUG's retail version.

Oh I totally agree. And had I known about the Half Life CE edition I woulda steamed it and gotten the gold package.

Hell I still have my Diablo 2 CE Box with all it's goodies still inside.

But I think Vivendi and Valve really got into a pissing match after the Alcatraz ATI party, and from the Vivendi standpoint the gamers got screwed. (But I do like my Half Life T-Shirt, be better if it looked like a HEV suit heh).

But also the CE pets are alot of fun. I created a cow.. er Tauren and choose Mini Diablo, or Diablo Jr as I call him and was dancing with some other cows when all of a sudden fire starts spewing out of Jr. At first I thought it was lag and I somehow ended up on top of a campfire. Was funny to watch 10 cows stop dancing to figure out what all the fire effects was coming from.

Lucked out and one of the local EB's had a copy. Now let me tell ya for 80 bucks I got a BIG ASS HEAVY BOX OF PURE EXTRA GOODNESS! Vivendi, I hope you all choke and die on the Half Life 2 CE.

You do know that Vivendi owns Blizzard as well, right?

I've always been impressed with the Blizzard presentation - whenever they do a collector's package, you know it'll be stuff that you actually want - of course, this is what makes them so hard to find soon after launch.

Meanwhile, GoGamer has already cut the price of the Half Life 2 CE by $20. That should tell you something ....
