Out of the Blue [Nov 23, 2004, 09:34 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
I was already running a little behind this morning, and a little plumbing
problem set me even further back. According to our friendly neighborhood
plumber, the pipe to the radiator in our second-floor bathroom, which had
apparently been rusting for years, finally failed, causing a (thankfully minor)
flood in the basement. Turns out this is sort of good news that this finally
came to a head, as he says this was impeding the heat on the second floor as
well as my office above, so having the pipe repaired may well help us keep our
house warmer.

It sounds pretty heartless but when they went through the nighttime crying phase we just let them get on with it. Eventually they realised that we weren't going to come at their beck and call and that we would still be there in the morning.
Yeah, about 3 out of 4 times he goes back down within a few minutes on his own, but the other times he works himself up. He's been getting better the past couple months.
I would definitely go and organise a formal date night though. Not only does this help the little one to realise that you have a life of your own but it also helps your wife to realise that its perfectly okay to leave the child for a period of time.. I remember the first time we went out my wife drove the babysitter wild phoning every hour or so.
We went to Carmel for our anniversary for 3 days in October and only called about 1-2 times per day. We're OK there, but it is also easier when the grandparents are watching him. My folks watch him on a daily basis and hers infrequently, but they always handle the overnight trips and the occasional days my folks are very busy. We're very fortunate that both sets live between 15-45 minutes of our home.
