I was already running a little behind this morning, and a little plumbing
problem set me even further back. According to our friendly neighborhood
plumber, the pipe to the radiator in our second-floor bathroom, which had
apparently been rusting for years, finally failed, causing a (thankfully minor)
flood in the basement. Turns out this is sort of good news that this finally
came to a head, as he says this was impeding the heat on the second floor as
well as my office above, so having the pipe repaired may well help us keep our
house warmer.

What time does your son get up? Also, 9:30 sounds pretty late for an almost two year old. I would recommend moving that time up gradually, not just for your time, but for his health.
As for opening your wife up to interactive entertainment, definitely avoid the shooters. But besides those already mentioned, I have had success with other similar anti-gun/violence personalities with Pikmin and Dance Dance Revolution. Mrs. Pacman is an old standby and the rest of Nintendo's line like Zelda and Mario. Pikmin 2 even has a coop mode you can unlock.
One last thing, remember, any time that you are watching tv, (alone or together) that could be time you could be gaming.
He gets up at 6:30 or so. I know it's late, but he just won't go down earlier. We've tried bumping it up some, but he's wide awake and hates being in his crib alone. We'd let him cry it out, but at times he gets so worked up he hurls (very rare, but it happens). He also gets a 2 hour nap during the day. Some nights he goes down at 8:30, but ususally it's between 9 and 9:30.
Yeah, maybe a Pacman or something might work, but she really has no interest in playing computer games. I just don't think it will happen. And that's fine - everyone has different interests.
I try to catch some Kings games when I can. Gaming is fun, and I wish I had more time, but some TV time and time with the family is good for balance.
My mother-in-law sounds very much like your wife. Teacher/Counselor, anti-gun/violence, not that interested in video games at all (of course, different generation), but I showed her Dance Dance Revolution on our xbox when she visited the time before last, and had her play it along with my father-in-law on their last visit. Now they are intent on getting an Xbox for Christmas.
Interesting. I wonder if she would like it....
