Out of the Blue

I was already running a little behind this morning, and a little plumbing problem set me even further back. According to our friendly neighborhood plumber, the pipe to the radiator in our second-floor bathroom, which had apparently been rusting for years, finally failed, causing a (thankfully minor) flood in the basement. Turns out this is sort of good news that this finally came to a head, as he says this was impeding the heat on the second floor as well as my office above, so having the pipe repaired may well help us keep our house warmer.

I personally am looking forward to the questions such as "Why is the sky blue?" and "How come a mirror reflects what's in it?" - these are golden chances to completely befuddle the little brains they have.

That and making them mow the lawn and take out the trash. If you can't get a little slave labor out of them, why have them?

Dorf Meatshield is good. We already have a half dozen regular Blue's people interested in the guild and I'm sure more will come on board as well as any other cool people we meet in-game. Nothing heavy, no uber-guild or something, just some guys having a good time. I'll have an alt to do all my power-leveling and stuff that can help contribute to guild players who have less time.

Garona is 100 times better than Blackhand, so it's good we switched servers.

You have just restated Campbell's thesis in that book, more or less.

Yeah. Sorry about that.. I realized after I posted that Campbell was in fact a non-fiction writer looking at fiction throughout history. Whee.

Dropped by Tower Records and they had it for $24. Had to have them go in the back room to dig out the DVD version though. As much as I love TDP, it's still hard to believe that I now own four copies of it.

I've called another place in town, and both (Borders and Best Bi) say it's supposed to be delivered, but hasn't made it yet...not sure WTF happened.

Well, of course sports don't count.

And as for DDR, check out this site, it might help in your argument for it: http://www.getupmove.com/

DDR is a great replacement for gym membership... Yeah, its all about saving money... not about the video games.

It sounds pretty heartless but when they went through the nighttime crying phase we just let them get on with it. Eventually they realised that we weren't going to come at their beck and call and that we would still be there in the morning.

Yeah, about 3 out of 4 times he goes back down within a few minutes on his own, but the other times he works himself up. He's been getting better the past couple months.

I would definitely go and organise a formal date night though. Not only does this help the little one to realise that you have a life of your own but it also helps your wife to realise that its perfectly okay to leave the child for a period of time.. I remember the first time we went out my wife drove the babysitter wild phoning every hour or so.

We went to Carmel for our anniversary for 3 days in October and only called about 1-2 times per day. We're OK there, but it is also easier when the grandparents are watching him. My folks watch him on a daily basis and hers infrequently, but they always handle the overnight trips and the occasional days my folks are very busy. We're very fortunate that both sets live between 15-45 minutes of our home.

Sounds like you're having a rough time of it Warhawk, my sympathies. One of the benefits of having twins is that they actually keep each other company and are less clingy than singletons. Thats not to say that they wont both hang on you at the same time but it happens less often They've been pretty good at sleeping, one wont wake up unless the world is ending (or he hears the word 'breakfast' whispered from the other side of the house) the other is a pretty light sleeper but will go through the night. This means if I'm alone with them in the house I can safely go and put on headphones and game away, they can come and get me if there is a problem.

On weekends we designate one night as 'date night' and do something together as a couple. Most of the time we just end up siting down and talking or watching a movie. The other night I spend gaming - usually rather late.

We're getting to the point where we're going to start getting a babysitter once in a while so we can do this. Other than for our anniversary, we've had maybe 3-5 evenings out together/with friends since he was born, and that has to change soon. We need more time together without him (1-2 nights a month would probably do), I think.

Oh man, the 5.1 version of Ruiner is pretty fucking sweet. Anxious for people to get out of the house so I can blast that motherfucker.

Halsy: Garona it is, looks like we'll need a meatshield: that'll be me. I'm thinking a Dwarven Warrior.

Torn between continuing my second playthrough of Half-Life 2, getting into Vampire, installing WoW, listening to TDS 5.1 or actually getting some work done. Decisions, decisions.

Mirsky and Warhawk, I'm just curious about the troubles you guys are having with getting "free" time from your spouse to play HL2.

Is it a problem for you to stay up past the time your spouse goes to bed to play HL2? For example, for awhile I had an arrangement so that I wouldn't play any games while my spouse was awake in the evening and would focus my attention on her. Then, when she went to bed, I would get an hour or two to play Counterstrike, Halo, etc.

This wasn't addressed to me but I'd like to chime in anyway.

My wife has no understanding or appreciation of games or gaming in general. She does understand just how much I enjoy it. After a day spent with our boys (6,4, and 3 YO) she just wants to decompress and spend some time alone. This works well for me as I can spend some time with the games.

On weekends we designate one night as 'date night' and do something together as a couple. Most of the time we just end up siting down and talking or watching a movie. The other night I spend gaming - usually rather late.

I never bothered trying to push her into gaming. Besides, it's nice to have a hobby to myself, worlds colliding and all that....

Looks to Zathrus and Heather

What time does your son get up? Also, 9:30 sounds pretty late for an almost two year old. I would recommend moving that time up gradually, not just for your time, but for his health.

As for opening your wife up to interactive entertainment, definitely avoid the shooters. But besides those already mentioned, I have had success with other similar anti-gun/violence personalities with Pikmin and Dance Dance Revolution. Mrs. Pacman is an old standby and the rest of Nintendo's line like Zelda and Mario. Pikmin 2 even has a coop mode you can unlock.

One last thing, remember, any time that you are watching tv, (alone or together) that could be time you could be gaming.

He gets up at 6:30 or so. I know it's late, but he just won't go down earlier. We've tried bumping it up some, but he's wide awake and hates being in his crib alone. We'd let him cry it out, but at times he gets so worked up he hurls (very rare, but it happens). He also gets a 2 hour nap during the day. Some nights he goes down at 8:30, but ususally it's between 9 and 9:30.

Yeah, maybe a Pacman or something might work, but she really has no interest in playing computer games. I just don't think it will happen. And that's fine - everyone has different interests.

I try to catch some Kings games when I can. Gaming is fun, and I wish I had more time, but some TV time and time with the family is good for balance.

My mother-in-law sounds very much like your wife. Teacher/Counselor, anti-gun/violence, not that interested in video games at all (of course, different generation), but I showed her Dance Dance Revolution on our xbox when she visited the time before last, and had her play it along with my father-in-law on their last visit. Now they are intent on getting an Xbox for Christmas.

Interesting. I wonder if she would like it....

Ok, I switched servers to Garona as it was the only one with a low pop still (everything else is medium or high). So Garona is the server.

Muh-muh-muh-my Garona.

You could try creating folders under the Links folder... I group my links into 2 or 3 folders. It's like creating seperate drop menus.

Also, you can add the Links folder to your task bar and use the same groups there. Check out my taskbar in this old screen shot to try and make sense of it of what I'm trying to say. http://www.deviantart.com/view/2744964/

I just got back from my NIN excursion totally empty-handed. Found out that the release date in Canada is Nov. 30. Too bad I had to go to 3 different stores before someone was able to give me that information.

It will cost $42 + $20 for the pair when the time comes. That seems high.
