Sims 2 University Announced

The advance copy of a press release (thanks Sims Zone and Tiscali Games) announces plans for the Sims 2 University, an expansion for Maxis' little people simulation. As the title implies, the add-on will focus on the collegiate life of the Sims, with a little education possibly allowing the wee folks to wee on their own without being directed to the bathroom. Here's a bit:
REDWOOD CITY Calif. – November 22, 2004–Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that EA’s Maxis™ Studio is developing The Sims™ 2 University, the first expansion pack for the highly-acclaimed The Sims 2 PC game. The Sims 2 University will ship this March and gives players of The Sims 2 the ability to watch their Sims become young adults and put childhood behind them as they settle into an all-new college town to live out their ultimate college fantasy.

Sinjin Bain, Executive Producer and Maxis Vice President, highlights the company’s commitment to its loyal following, “We are thrilled to open up a whole new stage of life for the Sims, allowing players to lead them through all the challenges of college and living the exciting university lifestyle of the dorms, parties and exams. This title is also the first in a line of expansion packs that will address our players’ desires, further develop The Sims 2 franchise and continually expand the world of the Sims creating almost endless gameplay and storytelling possibilities."

There had better be enormous drinking parties, gangbangs and no moral standards involved with this expansion.

I'm kinda surprised though, I would have figured they'd have bundled the content of the first Sims + Expansions up into one large expansion pack for Sims 2 before going a new path. There is just a lot of gameplay missing from the Sims 2.

...you'll be able to drop acid, lose the ability to do any work or attend classes, drop-out, bum around for ten years, and then become a computer programmer.

Neat. Only works in the play universe of course. In the real world you're the geek who puts in 80+ hours a week just to work 80+ hours a week at EA...

Unless you know how to "program Excel". Then your future is assured and small towns will be named after you.

Is this the exapansion that teaches you to learn how working 80+ hours per week in sweatshop-like conditions for the gaming industry can get you "ahead"?

And how did this get off on Sims2 vs. T:V vs. HL2?

They were released close to each other... I only mentioned it because it seemed like there was more of a buzz about the Sims2 here on the boards after they were released.

Anyway, at least you all picked up T:V... too bad no one is playing it.

nin, at least you have taste in music.

Sounds like a good idea for an expansion I think... better than just the stupid content expansions of The Sims1. It actually gives me an excuse to want to buy it.

And how did this get off on Sims2 vs. T:V vs. HL2? All totaly different games... all insanely awesome in their own ways. I have all 3. haha.

I don't even like the real university experience. What is this a simulation of your bank account emptying and debt increasing? What fun is that?

I bought both the Sims 2 and Tribes: Vengeance, and I think T:V is the best fps to come out this year. HL2 was fun, but it was short and there's no multiplayer. T:V has a great singleplayer experience (the story is actually interesting) and then multiplayer.... well... Tribes is the best when it comes to mp.

I like the Sims 2 as well.

What? I thought what made college life "crazy" was skipping classes to stay home and try (without success) to stave off depression by drinking alone, and laying in bed staring at your ceiling. I guess I missed that memo. College isn't "crazy" for everyone. However, I too hope that Maxis goes totally crazy with this expansion and lets me simulate my 'fratastic' (and, by that I mean, not belonging to one) experience as well. Perhaps your sim can live next door to mine, and piss him off.

You ain't gonna get an E rating with booze weed and sex.

This would be a good time to point out that the game doesn't have an E rating in the first place. It's actually T, implying Crude Humor, Sexual Themes and Violence. A real college life might be NC-17. Shit, a real high-school life might be NC-17. However.. replace sex with "Woohoo", bring the "bubble machine" from Sims 1 back in place of weed, and make everything look cartoonish in an innocent sort of way, and they can keep that T for a college expansion no problem.

Maxis animators could make snuff films look innocent if they wanted to.

The Sims really pissed me off because they released like 8 expansions for it. I don't wanna buy 8 fucking copies of the same thing! They're just minor differences, why couldn't they have just thought of this shit and included it in the original game?

I thought The Sims 2 would be different, and that's why I bought it. But I guess I thought wrong...

The Sims2 suck... and I am really disappointed in those of you who fucking bought this game when you could have bought Tribes:Vengeance.

I bought both...

But I think I liked Sims2 better.
