WoW Canadian Shipping Woes

WorldofWar.net (thanks Ant) describes the possibility that Canadian customers may have trouble receiving their shipments of World of Warcraft next week. The problem is that UPS Canada stops pickups and delivery guarantees as strike threat looms, so while there's word that some preorders of the game have shipped, Canadian customers expecting copies via UPS may be in for a problem.

Retard

It was so bland that you wasted too much time playing it?

That makes a ton of sense

Yeah, you are right, DAOC is MUCH better

You should go back there

I never said it was bland. Quite the opposite, it's too good, I couldn't stop playing. Don't get so defensive, even if WOW was the best game ever made, it's still a game, and if someone says they don't want to play it, you shouldn't be offended.

All I was saying was the last time I played a game that much, it was DAOC, and it's 8 months I'd like to have back.
The break between the beta and release (and the deletion of my beta character) was enough for me to reconsider wasting another ?? months...

Check your e-mail, Dan.
Gah, you suck!
They just called me; UPS Canada did end up going on strike.

No deliveries for j00, they say.

Meanwhile, if I am willing to pay five times as much, miraculalously they can ship it for me.

No thanks - FedEx, here I come.

I just read the Futureshop site and they have said they will be shipping all orders by Purolator to ensure that customers still get their stuff they bought.

WoW is the best mmorpg since UO and AC.

It does not have the grind feel that DAOC did.

Hi,

I work for UPS. The reason why charges are cheaper with Canada Post is because it can cover costs for parcel delivery with the huge $$$ it pulls in from its monopoly from mail. Take away its ability to cover its losses in parcel delivery, you lose nice prices. That's why the prices are different. Not sure about other company prices but UPS has been trying (as well as other Canadian freight companies) to get the Canadian Gov't to get its nose out of the freight business. Approximately 200+ freight companies in Canada so we don't need a Gov't controlled one. Keep your eyes on the business papers and you will see what I mean. UPS beef is that its anti competitive...

This break from the WoW beta is a good thing. Even in the beta I wasted way too much time playing it. Now I've lost my character, I really have no incentive to play again. It really didn't offer anything big over DAOC.

As far as shipping to Canada, I've had worse experiences with fedex myself, but they're a little more sneaky about it. You don't hear anything about brokerage fees until a few weeks after when they mail you a bill. At my current address I got 2 items shipped simultaneously (different shipments though). I never paid them the $50, next fedex item I try shipping is going to be cheap

I think if items are marked as repaired then they don't incur brokerage fees (or taxes)?

I don't mind Canada Post "Express post", I've shipped many computer products with it, and it's 1/4 the price of ups/fedex, and gets there just as fast in many cases. Plus it's still tracked, so the dodgy companies can't say they didn't get it.

Only an idiot allows UPS shipping to Canada. $34 "brokerage fee" tacked on to just about anything crossing the border. About 2 years ago I ordered a tiny speed controller for my RC airplane. The thing cost $10 US and another $5 to ship it. No problem right? UPS guy shows up 4 days later and wants $34 for the delivery. Told him to shove the package up his ass and shut the door in his face. Better to eat the $15 than to cough up almost 4x what the item cost in "fees".
What can brown do for me? It can take a flying leap is what it can do.
Never had a problem with USPS although I've had Canada fucking customs hold shit for 3 or 4 weeks before I've seen it. Canada Post blows huge amounts of ass too. It took those assholes 3 days to get a priority courior package to the other side of the city once!!! Next business day my ass.

Hmmmph!

I recall somebody preferring either FedEx or USPS over UPS.
To send the shipment, I had authorize UPS to act as a broker.
Wondering who that somebody was... ;),

UPS blows, if you order an item from the US to Canada, there's a good chance they'll tack on a $30 brokerage fee, even if it's a $10 item.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOO!
I feel I may have my first bad UPS experience. :'(

Who in their right mind, as a Canadian, would order through the United Postal Service!?

I would actually. They actually deliver packages to my apartment door, their deliveries are in the evening, it is quick and they will make a 2nd attempt at delivery.

This is all in comparison with Canada Post which is an evil government corporation. CP will not bring the package to me, they will deliver it to the post office the following afternoon because the mailman is a lazy fuck. Also they come around 11 or noon and I'm not always around then.

Note: We're very real, regardless of what your mom tells you about your nightmares.

Added Note: Just because a company has Canada tacked onto the end, they think they're fooling people.
Nobody's being fooled, they're just fools to begin with.

Well I just called several local stores and they all seem to expect it Tuesday. I pity the foos that live out in the boonies and have to order this stuff online and have it shipped to them. My local EB is like a 10 minute walk from my house.

...do not say anything bad about UPS until World President Dan receives his CPU!

Is this even a true issue, though? The game shipped in the U.S. no later than Wednesday, if not earlier, and I would presume the funny people version shipped out then as well.

Cringing,
Ray WTF are you two looking at???

ColoradoHoudini: It went gold for shipping a few weeks ago (11/4/2004). OB is mainly to release a patch to fix any bugs. In fact, we can still use our open beta client for the retail version (supposedly a patch and key needed).
