There was a time that the customer service, or lack thereof, was the most noted
aspect of dealing with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Miraculously, this
situation was addressed at one point, and there came a more recent time when
dealing with the DMV became an easy pleasure, with all manner of unexpected
efficiencies incorporated into their systems. My trip their yesterday, however,
reveals that many of these improvements have gone away at my local DMV. There
was a sign up asking for patience with delays because they have stricter
guidelines to follow regarding accepting identification, but my transaction
involved producing my license, no more. The problem was everything else... I
knew I was in trouble from the start when it was a 10 minute wait (at the front
of the line, no less) just to get my number to signify my turn. It wasn't
quite the final scene in Beetlejuice, but it was pretty tough.

I get the same thing. It seems to happen when you attempt tp back up everything at once. And it happens at the exact same memory address everytime. I'm currently attempting one Steam product at a time (eg: Half Life 2 only) to see if that fixes the problem.
I'm also in talks with one of the Valve tech support monkeys. He seems clueless, suggesting that I validate my game content somehow (by opening this link steam://validate/220, but that only validated HL2, nothing else). I got the idea of doing everything individually off of one of the forum posts on steampowered.com. I really am starting to think that at least their tech support is clueless if they aren't aware of bugs like this one.
I was trying to backup everything, so yeah, they confirms it. I had also validated the steam files (check the news section on steampowered, and they provide links to validate all source engine games).
When I switched it from dvd sized pieces to cdr sized pieces, it works fine, with no error (backing up everything). So I'll just throw most of it onto one dvd, and the last 2-3 pieces on a second. No big deal.
What's the maximum size a single file can be under NTFS? If it's JUST 4 gig, they may be trying to write a 4.3 gig file (for the first disc) and Windows is telling them to f$%* off once they go over 4. Just a thought...

With all the talk of G-man, SSHL2T including seeing him in the “attic” talking to someone on the buggy level where the gate opens. Am I the only one who watched him (and the entire camp) through the power binoculars the combine had setup? And also crowbared the combine solider in the back of the head while he was looking through them?

I am just entering Ravenholm now - A lot of talk about it so I cant wait to get home and play it. 3 Questions:
1.) Should I have the shotgun by now?
2.) Anyone else got any cool console commands like the other guy posted earlier to change the physics? I know in some CS Source servers they set it so once someone died there actions would turn into slow motion.. really cool.

Yeah, I wish you could turn off that laser at times. On one of the levels where you fight the striders, I was hiding behind cover and would jump up fire a rocket, see it miss, then duck back down for cover only to have that damn rocket home in on the laser pointing on whater I'm hiding behind.LOL, that freaked me out on one level where you have to take down multip[le flying Manatees. I was playing around with the launcher trying to hit a distant building and thought I had missed. A minute later all of a sudden I hear this "whooshing" like I was being targeted so I ran for cover but it kept getting closer until it blew up right next to me. Yes, it was the rocket I had launched.

Did anyone think there were fewer guns in HL2 than in most FPS games? You have 2 pistols, 2 SMGs (with 2 grenade launchers), a shotgun, a crossbow, an RPG and grenades, and the gravity gun. That's 10 inclusive of crowbar, plus that SST spore thing which is useless after that level
Compare to HL, where there were something like 15, all with alt fire. I was surprised there weren't more alt fire modes - the quickfire pistol from HL1 was cool, the non-laser RPG, etc. That said, the pulse rifle's alt fire is pretty cool.
Actually, while typing this I realised that I never used the hornet gun or the gluon gun or the gauss gun in HL, so maybe less is more.

I really liked ravenholm, but I think the primary reason was because I'd just gotten the grav gun.

Ravenholm was, by far, my favorite part.
I'm finding Ravenholm to be a much more frightening experience than anything in Doom 3.
