Furthermore, I'm boycotting Hollywood. Corporate scum, look how scripted their movies are? For the $50 HL2 costs I could buy 3 DVDs, and get 6 hours of worthless, scripted entertainment. Terrible. From now on I only watch free Flash movies! No scripting there!
You idiot, of course there is scripting, show me one game without it. What isn't scripted is the AI. They don't react the same way every time, but the plot will move the same way and the dialogue will be the same. Every fight will be different, though, if you attack it in a different way. With the Combine it will be different even if you do the same thing.
If you expect no scripting you've overhyped the game in your own mind. And, in your twisted thought process, you probably blame Valve. Being a very entertaining game isn't enough, you hyped it enough that if it isn't entirely revolutionary it's not worth it. No fault there aside from your own, yet odds are you blame everyone else for your own faults and think you're superior for refusing to have fun.
Think back to the original HL. Remember scenes like the two scientists getting sucked into the duct? Can't do that without scripting. Remember the zombie bashing through the door? Again, needs scripting.
Scripting is a great thing as it makes the world look real. It's only bad when most attacks on you are scripted, and enemy behaviour is scripted. But when it's external eye-candy to make the world look populated then it's a good thing.
