As you all can probably tell, I'm not ready to put all my trust into Steam yet. I'll believe it when I see it, but I guess I've put enough faith into it to be using it now. - Warpig
Here's the way I look at it: Valve had the
source code for their game
stolen off of their own servers! Do I really want to trust them with my credit card number? The less places where my financial informaion is floating around, the better. I could care less about online distribution and activation.
Besides, Steam is only about
distribution. Someone still has to front the money to small developers in order to actually produce a game. And consumers still need to be made aware that a game exists. If Valve is going to handle all this, then they are only turning into the very beast they are fighting against.
Otherwise those developers who don't want to deal with Steam will have to create their own Steam. I don't really want 6 versions of Steam hogging all my bandwidth.
Somehow I don't think CD's a going away anytime soon...
