NFS: Underground 2 Patch

The first patch for Need for Speed Underground 2 is now available, updating the import tuner racing game to version 1.1, though there's no word on what the update does. The various language versions of the patch can be found on this EA FTP server, one or more of which are mirrored on 3D Gamers, Boomtown (registration required), FileFront, Gameguru Mania, Gamer's Hell, JustGamers, and Worthplaying. The update should also be available automatically from within the game.

Not if the licensed vehciles can't take even a bit of damage. I have half a mind to go buy an RX8, slide into a telephone pole doing 60mph, then sue EA and Mazda for false advertizing cause my car took damage.

With all the licensed vehicles in racing games, aren't the games essentially advertisements already?

Uh, the commercials already come up during the games... I assume that you mean that the game would be interrupted for a commercial... Sorry, but that won't happen. If it was going to happen then we would see commercials interrupting our DVDs.

You may take your tinfoil hat off now.

No need for ads in games.. GAMES PEOPLE! It will just get worse and worse and someday you might have comericals DURING the game. This is just letting them "in" to have that happen someday.

I use tivo and DONT WATCH COMMERICALS on TV. I skip them. But thanks to the new POPUP ads on the bottom of shows they've found a way to become intrusive. Stop being brainwashed and wake up.

I expect a $10-$15 discount if a game has ads. I WILL NOT PAY FOR COMMERICALS!!

Do you have cable TV? You pay for the net right?

Face it people it's just like my advertising teacher said, "Advertising Rules the universe." It is everywhere you can't avoid it. It was only a matter of time until ad companies realized that it could be lucrative to use video games as a medium for the ads.

As long as the ad fits in with the game and doesn't ruin the immersion why should we give a fuck? I know I don't...

I think its a neat idea. Seeing real signs and TV ads in game might add cool stuff. The only thing is as long as ads stay where they should. On billboards and TVs and such.

I dont mind seeing real world companys names in racing games, casio on the watch of your character, smith & wesson on the gun you hold etc.

But I am pretty sure, people who hide from real world in their games will not like this.

Inadvertant advertising is one thing, but slamming a big "cingular" sign at the top of a screen is different.

Advertising in games is ok until it goes beyond creating a believable world. I won't be surprised if EA games start shipping with banners and popups.

Ads in games are going to be BIG next year. Don't shoot the messenger but check out this DISTURBING link: http://tinyurl.com/68zj7

Here's a taste:
""How does Massive's technology work? When gamers log on, Massive
begins to track their actions and serves up appropriate ads on the
billboards and signs inside video games. It then gives a tally to
advertisers, who pay by the impression. The system can be used on
online games--or on offline games in which the computer is nonetheless
hooked to the Internet.

In a racing game, for example, Massive's technology could feature
rotating ads for the latest products from Hewlett-Packard or
Blockbuster on the banners circling the track. (It's
anachronism-friendly too, so Gandalf won't lay siege to a Kragen Auto
Parts outlet.)

The idea has strong appeal. The top 100 advertisers have already
signed up, and by the end of next year, 36 GAMES WILL LIKELY BE ON THE
MASSIVE AD NETWORK, which will reach more than 19 million viewers. Up
until now, games have featured artificial ads, or static product
placement spots that quickly go stale. "

NOT GOOD FOLKS!!! Ubisoft, Atari, and Vivendi Universal have already signed up. I only guess EA will be on it too.

I expect a $10-$15 discount if a game has ads. I WILL NOT PAY FOR COMMERICALS!!

i guess it's okay if they lowered the price of the game if gamers are subjected to ads (no matter how little exposure)...it's only fair that consumers get something for being exposed. i would hate to have ads appear in games as a common occurance.

What's the difference if the burger joints inside the game are called "Burger King" instead of "Joe Blow's Grill"? It actually makes it appear a bit more realistic. It's not like they force you to watch a 30-second commercial every 15 minutes of play (yet).

The advertisements pissed me off so much I didn't play one second of the game and uninstalled it.

So, the game's almost a week away from street, yet they release a patch less than a day after the warez release. Seems a bit suspicious to me

Sounds like paranoia to me...

Nothing especially suspicious about EA not telling their customers what a patch does. Do they ever? Seems like most software makers have detailed released notes along with their patches, but EA rarely (never?) does...
