World of Warcraft Open Beta

Blizzard Entertainment announces the beginning of the World of Warcraft Open Beta (thanks Ant), though the World of Community Website seems to have crumpled under the stress of the news. Word is that: "An initial run of open beta accounts is now available from FilePlanet" (not limited to paid subscribed like the stress test), the wording suggesting accounts will be available elsewhere eventually. Here's a bit on the beta: "In preparation for the launch of World of Warcraft, we are now introducing the most complete version of the game, including a new patch with extensive content, including racial traits, raids, Hunter and Paladin talents, new quests for high-end zones, and much more." Update: The client is now also available on WorldofWarcraft.com and mirrored on Gamer's Hell.

How convenient that I didn't delete the WoW Stress Test :D.

How convenient (as pointed out earlier) that WoW goes OB on the same day as EQ2 is released.

By the time fucking FilePlanet lets me register, the open beta will be over.

I had a feeling that they wouldn't have enough bandwidth to handle the stampede of people trying to get in at the second it starts.

I hope Blizzard adds more servers for WoW because it was crowded before the open beta. I would guess they didn't and it it will probably be pretty awful to play for the next few days.

I love that they're using the term "open" beta when there's a limited about of spots they're making available.

since mmorpgs are such dynamic products having a game go gold while it is still in "beta" isn't so hard to believe....

I love that they're using the term "open beta" with the game scheduled to ship in two weeks.
