World of Warcraft Open Beta

Blizzard Entertainment announces the beginning of the World of Warcraft Open Beta (thanks Ant), though the World of Community Website seems to have crumpled under the stress of the news. Word is that: "An initial run of open beta accounts is now available from FilePlanet" (not limited to paid subscribed like the stress test), the wording suggesting accounts will be available elsewhere eventually. Here's a bit on the beta: "In preparation for the launch of World of Warcraft, we are now introducing the most complete version of the game, including a new patch with extensive content, including racial traits, raids, Hunter and Paladin talents, new quests for high-end zones, and much more." Update: The client is now also available on WorldofWarcraft.com and mirrored on Gamer's Hell.

I just found a very amusing little web-based game I wanted to share with you guys. You pretend to be a user trying to access the normal functions of a web site that supposedly exists to service a high number of people. But instead, you get a variety of interesting errors over and over again. Eventually the game ends because the thing you wanted in the first place is no longer available.

I'm not sure what the point of the game is, but it's a good way to waste ten minutes of your life.

I really want to know if my character from the stress test will carry over; if not, I see no point in playing the game right now.

How convenient that I didn't delete the WoW Stress Test.

You do know that the client needed to be re-downloaded and installed since the first stress test right?

Otherwise you will get a mismatched client message.

Yeah, this is the same thing that happened to the EQ2 open beta when they let everyone test out EQ2....

Oh wait, that's right, they didn't show it to the public before they released it. They just packaged what they had and decided to sell the beta test.

Ah...

"I love that they're using the term "open beta" with the game scheduled to ship in two weeks."

I hope your not referring to it being in beta and the game being released in 2 weeks...This game has been more playable IN EARLY BETA STAGE(minus server load issues in beginning), than most MMORPGs retail. That's including EQ2 in it's current state. As for me, I'm just gonna wait until the game comes out. I stopped beta on their first end with the closed beta ending. I won't download the 2gb file anymore to get afew more days in. I've had my beta testing fun for 7 months and am ready to buy the full already. All that's left to say is, bring it on!

It's so pathetic that they don't fix that. I kept getting that message when I tried to obtain an EQ2 key.

This is what I get when I try to register:

Server Error

ACK! There's been some sort of error with the contest or poll that you tried to submit.

An admin has been notified and someone will be looking into this shortly.
