World of Warcraft Open Beta

Blizzard Entertainment announces the beginning of the World of Warcraft Open Beta (thanks Ant), though the World of Community Website seems to have crumpled under the stress of the news. Word is that: "An initial run of open beta accounts is now available from FilePlanet" (not limited to paid subscribed like the stress test), the wording suggesting accounts will be available elsewhere eventually. Here's a bit on the beta: "In preparation for the launch of World of Warcraft, we are now introducing the most complete version of the game, including a new patch with extensive content, including racial traits, raids, Hunter and Paladin talents, new quests for high-end zones, and much more." Update: The client is now also available on WorldofWarcraft.com and mirrored on Gamer's Hell.

Was initially interested in this one when it was first announced, but now it looks like just another treadmill MMORPG. Plus, with work and school, I no longer have the time for it like I did two years ago when it was announced.

Pass on this one.

Rumours abound this time its several of Wow developers have reportley bought EQ2 to get a look at there competition and to that effect some are so flaberghasted by EQ2 that they are reportley going to change the death system and item degredation to match or mimic EQ2s system.

Now that is just a rumour but i think it must be true cause i heard they are changing there Death penalty but what they really need to do is change the graphics.

As much as im a shouter fr EQ2 im still gonna buy Wow simply put its got some great ideas and i hope they succedd in making it a great game, I do think they are gonna give EQ2 some trouble but based on the early problems with servers and distrubution of beta im not gonna hold my breath,
Eq2 developers have learned there lesson by Trial & error and cause they have been doing this for several years, thats why EQ2 rolled out so smoothly.

Even if EQ2 rules indeed (magically), SOE sucks extremely, and sooner or later they will fuck up EQ2 as they did with EQ1.

I think you will find that the Warriors that are complaining are not mid-level.

Hi Bronco:

Like you said, the players just need to adapt. All warriors can still tank, they just need to change playstyle a bit.

The paladin was the same way... So many people were complaining that they're broken, but after they learn how to play, they love the new changes.

Who knows why the sweeping changes came so late, but they did... It's still a very fun game.

I wonder if they'll let our OB chars carry over... more than likely not, but it'd be kinda nice...

EQ2, the game that's so amazing and engrossing that loser children will only troll up WoW threads only every few hours!

Now for some late breaking news!

You heard it here first, folks! Cheese loves Blizzard so much he'll take a shot in the mouth inbetween bukkake sessions with SOEs dong. If only there were more faceless, internet mongoloids with access to daddy's computer and lots of free time with this kind of dedication! Oh wait....fuuuuck.

Hows is it a beta test? And who cares if Wow lets you make 10 characters when i wouldnt want to tear myself away from EQ2 to play even one of them, Wisen up all you haters of EQ2 cause the reviews are starting to roll in and guess what?
I told you all so before in my earlier posts EQ2 will rule,
Now go and try to help blizzard with there Bungled beta F up, is that what you call a sucess? when thousands of ppl downloaded to only be told Errr now this is a closed beta ROFLMAO.
I just remember this point about Blizzard and that is 2 years after Diablo2 hit the streets we finn get the patch we were susposed to have at launch.
Ohh but there such a great company that i wanna blow them yeah yeah LOL.

The difference is, I'd rather not pay to beta test.

What's this about EQ2 only allowing 4 chars total for all servers combined? WoW allows 10 chars.. per server (up to a maximum of 50 per WoW account).

In the meantime EQ2 had a very smooth launch with thousands of players being ABLE to log in and play lag free,
Wow cant even get a beta straight how do you think thtere launch will be?
And wow has substandard gameplay and sub graphics compared to EQ2, at least I was pullin for this before it launched cause I dont have some sick hate obsession with SOE like most of you idiots do, So i keep the faith and they came through, and dont even try to flame EQ2 cause EVERY reveiw site is saying how smooth the launch was.

So sorry for all the blizzard fanbois wow will suck.

The game will be patched constanley dont be a fkin moron LOL thats the best statement ive seen comming from a fan OMG, why release it if its got to be patched constant? Is what your clearly saying is Wow isnt ready but will be pushed out the door anyways <before they loose market share to EQ2 i susppect> only to be PATCHED constantly HAHAHAHHOHOHHEHEH even the fanboi fags are saying it.

Yay. I spend 13 hours downloading this stupid game with a stupid hacked up download client that resembles bittorrent and the "OPEN" beta is "CLOSED".

WTF? Bliztard has been running battle.net for YEARS and they cant even handle the bandwidth and server capacity for this game?

Just the fact that they are unable to (a) forsee demand, (b) cope with unseen demand more reasonably than killing account creation (server pop limits???) and (c) address their incessantly rabid, stupid fanbase publicly about the open beta being closed leads me to want to keep my wallet in my pocket on this game.

When was EQ1 released? 99? I remember that launch because Verant made stupid mistakes back then too (ONLY 3 DS3s at launch, took them two months to get their OC12 installed). Does Bliztard learn? NO! STUPID STUPID BLIZTARD! BAD DOG! GO SIT IN THE CORNER!!!

At least I can get some sleep tonight. Not that I need it...

The further one gets from power, the closer one gets to the Truth.

Well curiousity got the best of me, a friend of mine got their copy of EQ2 and I had to see for myself. As a longtime EQ1 player, I don't see any reason to spend a dime on EQ2. I think Sony made a gross miscalculation with a player base that has already grown quite disgusted after the GoD and OOW expansions.

However....some people are such absolute social rejects they desperately need SOME MMO game to be immersed in, and perhaps that player base alone will fuel EQ2 to some success, but I don't see it. The average gamer who just wants a fun online game to play isn't going to fall for EQ2, and don't know if WoW is the answer, but from early observations it sure has a good chance.

Warriors can tank fine. I have a mid-level warrior and warriors just need to adapt to the new play style.

I think you will find that the Warriors that are complaining are not mid-level.

Level 60 players are complaining because of the nature of pulls in BRS and other high level instances. Keeping aggro in Scarlet Monastery is apparently different than in those other higher level instances.

That said, I agree, the better players will adapt and overcome any changes to the game.

I do however question why such sweeping changes were made a mere two weeks before retail? Not really enough time to test enough IMO.

"Change" hah. Tell that to all the warriors who can't tank anymore. What's their purpose now?

Guild Wars is very boring, indeed. No doubt about that. Very simplistic. Imagine Dungeon Siege and Final Fantasy XI combined but without the fun to get in the way.

I've played AC, DaoC, EQ, AO....they all suck. WoW rocks because it doesn't blatantly waste your time and most of all, is fun (unlike Guild Wars....*yawn* )
