Out of the Blue

I made an HTML error last night that left this page in a messed up state for a good deal of time. Trouble is, the error I triggered does not show up on MSIE, but it does on Mozilla derivatives. Having your browser ignore errors on the client end is a helpful thing, but it's not so good for a webmaster... looks like I really am going to have to switch my primary browser to avoid this problem in the future.

Zathrus, in today's New York Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/04/science/04sperm.html

Dr. Brinster said he hoped to learn how to make the sperm production cells produce sperm outside the body. Genetically altered sperm could then be used directly for in vitro fertilization. The technique could be useful in animal breeding; whether it would be considered ethical in human reproduction is likely to be a matter of debate.

The technique may also provide an alternative route for generating embryonic stem cells for use in repairing the body's tissues. The sperm production cells are adult stem cells, which are specialized, self-renewing cells, each type of which is dedicated to repairing or maintaining a specific body tissue. All are descended from embryonic stem cells, the all-purpose cells from which the body is made.

At present, embryonic stem cells are taken from the surplus embryos generated in fertility clinics. The sperm production cells have many of the same characteristics of embryonic stem cells and, Dr. Brinster believes, are only a couple of developmental steps away from them. It may be possible to walk them backward into being embryonic stem cells. These could then be converted into the specialized cell types needed to repair damaged organs.

I just watched the teaser trailer. I hate Lucas even more now because it looks awesome and I want to see the movie. Tricked again into thinking this new movie will be good. Where's Jar Jar? No surprises that Jar Jar wasn't shown. It's a trick I tell you!

Anyone still paying attention. Note that after the proof showed up, there was no sign of The Perpetually Unnamed one anywhere.

That should tell you all you need to know about who is factually correct.

Perhaps because there are ways of getting stem cells that doesn't require killing an unborn child.

OMG you need to get a fucking clue. You shouldn't have gotten me started, this is a very sensitive issue for me.

Bush wants you to believe stem cell research kills babies, why, I don't know. Technically the term "stem cells" refer to embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. The funding in California will go to research both.

The term embryonic stem cell is a misleading term also as they don't actually come from an embryo. It doesn't have arms, legs, fingers or toes, it's a days old microscopic blob of goo in a test tube consisting of a few hundred cells.

Do you realise that IVF clinics throw hundreds of thousands of embryos in the trash every year. How is it Bush can be against ESC research and allow IVF clinics to destroy life every single day.

IVF clinics create more embryos than are needed for conception, the excess embryos are frozen, and after a certain period of time they are no longer sutable for concecption so they are thrown out. Scientist want to take those excess embryos from IVF clinics and make stem cell lines out of them. How is that destorying life? Bush would rather throw those embryos in the trash than use them to save lives.

Bush also wants to ban theraputic cloning which uses an unfertalized egg and DNA from a patient to creates stem cells that have the same DNA as the patient needing them, so there is no chance of the body rejecting them. How is this morally wrong?

Bush also supports Senator Brownback's bill which will not only makes ESC research and theraputic cloning illegal in the US, but will also punish doctors that go out of the country to perform procedures in places where it is legal. If you think that sounds bad, if a therapy using ESC or theraputic cloning is discovered to cure something in another country, Brownback's bill will also make it illegal for a patient in the US to travel to that country to receive the treatment.

How's that for a slap in the face to the millions of people in the US suffering from diseases and injuries that can benifit from this research.

Not only does Bush want to ban ESC research and theraputic cloning here in the US, but he's pushing the UN to pass a global ban on this research.

I hope Bush breaks his fucking neck, then I bet he'd change his mind on stem cell research.

Kerry's national health care plan is another giant disaster. Doesn't he know, you don't have the right to a heart transplant? Where the hell did he get that idea? You work for it so you can pay it. That's how it's been, all through the ages, if you can't afford it, you can't get it. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

Wow! I'm all about personal responsibility, but this is either the most ignorgant or the most callous thing I've read in a long time... Nobody has full control over thier health. What's to say that some 11 year-old girl with a heart defect whose dad happens to work at the quickie mart has any less right to a transplant than a wealthy person?

And here is the honest average joe citizen, TPUO, calling people names again. Upset that someone else popped up with more proof that you are wrong? I can see why you might get upset at that and call names.

If you follow the usual modus operandi, a little more proof from us and you should be threatening both of us with physical violence. So predictable.

I am belly laughing. You got no clue at all do you?

William Kristol and the New Republic both are neo conservative. Do you really expect them to write an article saying

"Yes, it is all true. Isreal really does own the USA. We really do own the media, the industrial capacity and the government. We have taken over so we can bleed the country dry and use their young men to die in wars instead of our young men"

When was the last time you heard a guilty person stand up and say "Yes I am guilty, put me in the electric chair and fry me"?

Just for entertainment, let us please have Mr The perpetually unnamed one, explain away the following list. It is a list of the owners of the major media in the USA. All of the men in question are Isreali. Also note that I said please and I have not called him any names or accused him of any crimes.

According to TPUO, I am some racist kinda guy who is just spewing nonsense. Go ahead. Explain it. I am waiting.

Sure, just cast your eye on the media ownership in America.

You could skim off some cost by going with the regular version. Collector's edition here is $100 and it doesn't come with anything worthwhile. Come on Ray, where's your head?

  • I was hoping they might have a slightly cheaper subscription, but this does fall in line under the "Screw it, we will be big!" plan.

  • I have the Collector's Edition pre-paid at EB. Were there any details on what the stupid pet will be? I hope it is something stupidly annoying, something like a Pikachu. :o

  • Meanwhile, I love the contrsuction that is happening to the road. COME TO ME, CABLE MODEM...

  • I hope, having only played in the first stress test, that there is a good coat of polish.
Meanwhile, can there be an expansion with some %$@%%$ high res graphics?
Thanking Mr. Grumpy ;P,

Call me old fashioned, but I just cannot get past the monthly subsciption thing. Either allow a free download with a monthly fee, or just charge for the game and do not charge a monthly subsciption. In today's world of broadband, you ought to give away the game content initially and charge a monthly fee for MMORPGs.

Anyways, between work and school, I just do not have the time for online treadmilling. I was initially interested and excited about this, but I just do not have the time for the next four years to devote to a MMORPG. I will stick to the traditional multiplayer games, thank you.
