Mac DOOM 3 Preorders

Aspyr announces plans to publish the MacOS edition of DOOM 3, and while no release date is set, they are currently accepting preorders:
Aspyr Media, Inc. announced today that it is bringing id Software¹s critically acclaimed blockbuster hit, DOOM 3, to Macintosh. The game is under development for Macintosh by id Software, and will be published by Aspyr Media, Inc.

The ruins of an ancient Martian civilization have unlocked the secrets to teleportation and the Union Aerospace Corporation will stop at nothing to harness this world-altering technology. As part of a Marine detachment sent to protect the facility, your duty seemed simple enough until the invasion. Now, in an epic clash against pure evil you must fight to understand who is with you, who is against you, and what must be done to stop this nightmare from reaching earth.

"DOOM 3 has instantly become a must have title for any game fan, and we¹re thrilled to be working with Aspyr in bringing this landmark game to the Macintosh," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "Now, Macintosh owners can experience for themselves the unparalleled combination of bleeding-edge technology and edge-of-your-seat gameplay that critics and fans are raving about."

DOOM 3's dramatic storyline, pulse-pounding action, and incredible graphics, combine to produce the most frightening and gripping gaming experience ever created. DOOM 3 utilizes id Software's revolutionary new 3D graphics engine to create disturbingly realistic graphics, with never before seen detail and real-time lighting. Players can fight the forces of evil as a lone marine or battle other marines in team or deathmatch-based multiplayer modes.

The game is rated "M" for "Mature" by the ESRB and is available for preorder at www.aspyr.com for $49.99. For more information, fans can visit www.doom3.com <http://www.doom3.com/> or http://www.aspyr.com/games.php/mac/d3/.

Christ I'm tired of hearing this ignorant crap. Macs have two/three-button/scroll wheel mice too you idiot, they're just not standard. Good god at least get your facts straight before jumping on the idiot bandwagon...

The point here is that Macs ship with a one button mouse. Mac laptops have exactly one button. Half of the fucking FLASH games out there require two mouse buttons! I'm sure your mac is great for editing your wannabe independent films, but stop pretending that it's good for games, because it's not. Just go do the happydance for one of apple's stupid ass 'PCs are confusing' commercials and stfu. Nuff said.

Macs just ship with a one button mouse, if only windows had the same philosophy much tech support grief might be avoided - anyone that deserved right click would have to go buy a mouse and manage to plug it in first...

Any system that has a single button mouse should be forbidden to have games.

"Umm, if I can't control it with one button, I don't want to know about it."

Given that doom 3 is open gl and compiled for linux anyhow getting it to work on X wouldn't be that much of a major undertaking would it ?

The gaming market really does hate Apple.

I still don't understand what Macs offer other than high price and limited options.
Bemoaning the fact that I only have NWN to play right now,

Someone was making note of this expression in past press releases. But not only is DOOM critically acclaimed, but it is also a blockbuster hit.

Hasn't Graeme Devine, who did the mac ports, left id now?

In which case id have probably been to busy and the port would be done by Aspyr

Such as...? I've installed plenty of third-party hardware upgrades in my G4 including Micron RAM, a processor upgrade from Giga, a Western Digital harddrive, and a Radeon videocard. What's the problem?

I think he meant mac clones. I recall the old days when they allowed this and how PowerComputing was becoming big and cheaper than Apple. I guess it became too popular as Apple cancelled it all.

Remember, most PCs are considered clones themselves, or maybe not anymore, but I think IBM clones, right? It's been so long since the word clone has been said.

The difference will be that in the game, you can only use Apple branded batteries in your flashlight. Any other kind and the flashlight won't work...

Well yes, but the flashlight will be ubercool and skinable. Also, your BFG will have a built in vase for your daily flower pickings.

Mac Doom 3 preorders smash previous preorder record for Macintosh of 10 with a cool dozen. Id is hoping that upon release, all 25 high-end Mac users will have purchased the game. The remaining majority of Mac users are expected to baulk at the game as it is not pretty enough to be loaded onto their machines.

We caught up with several Mac users and here is what they had to say:

"Like OMG, that box is just nasty looking. That game totally doesn't go with the colour of my Imac or my VW Beetle."

"Umm, if I can't control it with one button, I don't want to know about it."
