Gold - Scrapland

Enlight sends word that Scrapland, the robotic action adventure developed by Mercury Steam Entertainment and produced by American McGee, is gold, and will ship early next month:
PARKVILLE, MD (October 26, 2004) - Enlight, a global publisher of PC and console games, today announced that the PC version of the highly anticipated action-adventure game American McGee Presents Scrapland has gone gold and will ship to retail stores nationwide in early November. Scrapland will carry a MSRP of $39.99 and has been rated T for Teen.

Scrapland is a unique blend of breathtaking graphics, open-ended gameplay and an engaging narrative that creates a fun and challenging experience that is a refreshing change of pace from the abundance of violent games currently on the market. The one of a kind game design and solid story clearly show the influence and polish that gamers have come to expect from a title with American McGee’s name on it. With over 40 hours of single player gameplay and fantastic multiplayer action, Scrapland is sure to satisfy the masses while setting a new standard in game design. The game will also be available in late January for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft.

17 posts and 15 or so of senseless bitching.... bunch of women around here.
For anyone genuinely interested in THE GAME, I personally, was highly impressed with the demo.
Which was strange cause I hadn't heard a word about this game before the demo was released (and then removed).
But the graphics are very impressive- colorful and runs smooth as silk with everything cranked.
The game controls were balls on, didn't try it with a mouse so I'm not sure about mouse lag.
The main thing that grabbed me was how fresh the game felt- kind of a crazy mixture between GTA and The Jetsons.
The only bad thing I could say was that the flying levels seemed pretty difficult, bordering on frustrating- especially the race one.
But overall, I agreed that the demo felt very polished and got me interested in a game that I hadn't even seen coming down the pipe.
You might want to check it out.

games aren't like movies, they age extremely quickly. Can't just keep it from the market because of competition. Besides, Scrapland looks like a fun christmas game for discriminating parents. All those other games are much more mature.

Hope they eliminated the super annoying mouse lag present in the demo. Was also in the supposed "leaked demo" several months earlier. Not a good sign.

but i doubt it could eclipse GTA (which it is clearly derived from)

Dumped because no publisher wanted it, i think.

I think it's really been "shelved" for the time being.

If memory serves, there was going to be an Alice movie, then OZ was announced, then it was announced there was going to be an OZ movie, too.

Then the Alice movie got cancelled. Then the OZ game got shelved for that no publisher reason you mentioned. Now the OZ movie is going forward and if the OZ game ever comes off the shelf it will be in the form of a game for the movie inspired by the game that never got off the ground.

Confusing, eh?

And why in the hell would you come out with a game right now? HL2, Halo 2, Metroid Prime 2, GTA:SA, EQ2 etc. Not enough money or time in the world to buy them all...

Agreed -- Flash websites and DVD menus both are rarely anything other than annoying. Flash has some genuine uses, but those instances are utterly dwarfed by all the abuses. This is one of my favourite Firefox extensions, naturally:
https://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=326&vid=993

The web is about finding information, and flash sites invariably just hinder that. I don't question their skills at creating aesthetically pleasing things, but graphic designers should not be allowed to design web sites IMO.

Um...ok. Talk about riding the coattails...

I feel sorry for the people who worked on this, only to have AM's name slapped over the top...I've got nothing against the guy, but I doubt he did the entire game himself.

agreed. its like the site for Driver..it was so annoying. be interesting to hear what the decision-makers in the web design process have to say. Whether they do it to look professional, whether they think it helps sell the tone of the game, or whether they think its good for us gamers - who probably just want to pass judgement on some screenshots, and maybe, maybe, get a link for a demo if they haven't already picked one up at the news site.

In scrapland's defense however, they do have a link to screenies on the intro-page, which is a good idea worthy of points.
