Site Seeing - The Elder Scrolls IV

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Website is now online (thanks Frans), dedicated to the next installment in Bethesda Softworks' RPG series. The site includes a press release offering some new details about the game, a FAQ, and the first four screenshots from the game. Here's a bit from today's announcement:
Oblivion features a groundbreaking new AI system, called Radiant AI, which gives non-player characters (NPCs) the ability to make their own choices based on the world around them. They'll decide where to eat or who to talk to and what they'll say. They'll sleep, go to church, and even steal items, all based on their individual characteristics. Full facial animations and lip-synching, combined with full speech for all dialog, allows NPCs to come to life like never before.

Oblivion is a single-player game that takes place in Tamriel's capital province, Cyrodiil. You are given the task of finding the hidden heir to a throne that sits empty, the previous emperor having been killed by an unknown assassin. With no true Emperor, the gates to Oblivion (the equivalent of hell in the world of Tamriel) open, and demons begin to invade Cyrodiil and attack its people and towns. It's up to you to find the lost heir to the throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel.

I can't wait for this game to be released. I absolutely loved Morrowind.

Edit: These are the screen shots from the very first announcement/preview in Game Informer a couple months ago. Pretty cool though, none-the-less.

It's worth noting that if it's anything like Morrowind 3, it's so slow paced, getting 15-30FPS isn't half that bad. Nonetheless, those are some damn sweet shots! They've made good use of HDR/Bloom effect to look realistic, unlikg SW Battlefront which just gave me a headache.

One thing I noticed was the pathetic grass clip plane - must Far Cry be the only engine to get it right? :\

I'm very excited about this game. I'd never played a "hard core" RPG before Morrowind but I fell in love with it the first time I played it. I think we have to keep in mind at this point that Oblivion won't be released untill 2006 at the earliest. The GameInformer article said late 2005 but I seriously doubt given the lack of details Bethesda is giving out now that that is realistic. Just my $0.02, and I hope I'm wrong, but given Morrowind took 5 years to develop, I'd expect Oblivion to take at least as long. Can't wait.

According the Game Informer article it states that: "Every shot on these pages is real - nothing has been reotuched or altered. This is what games on the Xbox 2 will look like."

Edit: Anyone else thinking that Fallout 3 is gonna look this good? Damn, I'm getting giddy over this hehe.
I assume that the PC version will look this good, or better. I don't understand why it shouldn't look this good, Unreal 3 is coming out around the same time probably and it looks this good (or better).

It's not blooming, it's HDR

I saw these in Game Informer and crapped my pants, technology aside, Bethesda has some extremely creative and talented artists who do everything by hand and it shows.

I'm not saying it's not HDR, but did you read someplace that they are using it?

Not a big fan of that bloom and romance filter crap, but if bethesda can't make it look good, then no one can.

R520 is the next big Ati release. Gives you an idea what Nvidia will be up against and what everyone has to look forward to

I put wellover 100hrs into MW. I can guarantee I'll be all over this - it looks absolutely amazing.

The only thing that comes close atm is FFXI, which is awesome, but nothing like as advanced as this.

Man, this looks damn cool......... I really loved Morrowind.... whatever it's flaws, it is one of the best games I've ever played just in terms of scope and in really absorbing me in the gameworld. The new Radiant AI stuff especially, combined with these seemingly amazing graphics, make it seem like this should be even better.

Wow, that's a sweet dungeon shot at the Gamespy link. Gone are the days where every room looked the same, every corridor was identical...and without your trusty graph paper with maps going off the top of the page because you started it in the wrong spot you were completely lost.

Beautiful shot. http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/702/702491/img_2425198.html?fromint=1
