Vivendi Universal Games sends along the eagerly anticipated press release that Half-Life 2 has gone gold, and is scheduled to ship world-wide on November 16, 2004. Here's an excerpt:
LOS ANGELES (October 18, 2004) – Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) today announced that Half-Life® 2, the sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed PC titles in gaming history, will ship to retail outlets around the world in November. The Company confirmed that Half-Life 2, developed by Valve Software, has gone gold with a planned retail street date of November 16, 2004. The countdown to the highly anticipated retail street date has begun around the world, as VU Games completes plans to ship localized versions of Half-Life 2 simultaneously in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese.
“Half-Life 2 has surpassed our expectations in every sense – its high-quality graphics, ground-breaking physics and immersive first-person shooter gameplay set a new standard for PC action games,” said Bruce Hack, CEO of VU Games. “Half-Life 2 will go down as one of the best-selling PC titles, and we are thrilled to deliver this ground-breaking title to the worldwide gaming community this fall.”
Yeah, that is easy to do. The graphics look very nice if not downright awe-inspiring. I'm betting the gameplay will live up to the hype at least.
How can you say that the HL2 graphics are not awe-inspiring? They are DX9 and have all the same features as the Doom 3 engine, and the HL2 engine can actually do big outdoor scenes. No doubt ANY gameplay would be better than the steaming pile that was Doom 3.
PC Gamer gave one review I strongly disagreed with. They gave the PC version of the console game "Enclave" like 86%. I saw that game at EB for twenty bucks, and being the sucker for medieval hack and slash games that I am, I bought it. Needless to say I didn't care for it at all, and I didn't even complete the third level.
Yeah, it sucked because it is a CONSOLE GAME. Go buy a brain. PC Gamer is a trash mag since their last editor left, and no one takes them seriously anymore.
But really, PC Gamer gets all the BIG game reviews before anyone else, like HL2 and Doom 3. If they were to give bigtime superhyped games a 50% rating they would likely no longer get to review games from that company first anymore.
