More Half-Life 2 Preloads

Steam News (thanks Frans) has word that further preloads of Half-Life 2 content over the online content delivery service are now underway, supporting a rumor of Dubious Quality suggesting a gold announcement nears. Here's word on the preloads:
The sixth phase of the Half-Life 2 preload begins to Steam account holders today. This will allow users to download the Half-Life 2 maps in encrypted form. No purchase is required to pre-load Half-Life 2, but is required to activate the game. The moment the game is made available, those who have pre-loaded and purchased the game via Steam will be ready to start playing.

Why do I keep preloading this stuff when I plan to buy the box?

I find it funny that they are doing this in multiple stages, as we all know that if they just waited for everyone to just download the full version that it would bog down the servers so much that you would have everyone complaining about Steam again.

This way it doesn't hit the bandwidth so bad and people remain happy.

Yeah, what's funny about the download stages exactly? It makes perfect sense, and Valve is hardly the first company to do this. Star Wars Galaxies "trickles" their large updates over days/weeks before release as well. It conserves bandwidth BIGTIME. There is nothing funny about it. It's simply smart business.

CS Source actually has me playing that bloody game for the first real time since the end of beta!

Can Remember now why I liked it back then. Of course I still would recommend ignoring most of the in game chat...

Now, if they would only release TFC : Source I would be a very happy "camper"

I love CS Source. I spent the last few years playing Urban Terror (Quake 3 tactical mod that is kinda similar) but it has become aged and the community is nearly non-existant these days. I didn't like the old Counter Strike at all, but the Source version is a blast. It needs more maps, but the gameplay seems rock solid for the most part. No crashes, no weird bugs (so far), and a bunch of fun.

I don't know, I think it's the smart and obvious thing to do.

So, we've got models, textures, sounds & music, and maps. Sounds like there's just one more load left--the engine.

TFC:Source will be TF2. Of course, that's probably going to come out at about the same time I can find a girl... meaning, never.

Not the first time I've seen someone say "Half-Life gold tomorrow", but I'm hopeful this time.

Do Steam users get the game once it's gold, or when the retail version is available?

lol @ Kukuman.

Hurry get a lass already (if it somehow means Valve will get their TF butts in gear).

I was under the impression TFC Source and TF2 were 2 different kettle of fish. Anyone confirm?

C'mon now, with an attitude like that... Think of it this way, if I can find a wonderful, attractive, and intelligent girl to fall in love with me, then anyone else can. It just takes some patience and sensitivity, and some strategy- like my personal strategy was to become best friends with a chick who had a lot of friends.

Sorry, offtopic. But never say never, unless you're referring to DNF.

Retail.

There's no such thing as TFC:Source, so TF2 is pretty much TFC:Source. Eventually.

ps: CS:S sucks.

Things I want for Christmas:

-HL2 (fine, no snarks. I'll still love ye)
-TFC2 (Multiplayer that remains underrated. Just remove the ability of demo men to spam their grenades like no other)
-Vampire: Bloodlines (Thanks to HL2 delays these guys have had a ton of time to polish the game. This thing should shine more than UT2004)

-Red Orchestra (completely off topic, but this game kicks so much ass it deserves a larger following)

Thus ends my drunken posting for the night. I shall sleep easy, knowing that one day I will play Half Life 2.

All this "gold tomorrow" stuff is getting old. Now the people saying are saying "if not tomorrow, then soon". Well, I haven't heard that before. I really want hl2 and it's pretty irritating when the only news are a bunch of rumors about it.
