The updated demo is a 181 MB download, available on 3D Downloads, 3D Gamers, ActionTrip, Boomtown (registration required), FileFront, Filerush (torrent), FileShack (registration required), Gameguru Mania, Gamer's Hell, GameSpot DLX (registration required), JustGamers, Worthplaying. Here's the deal: "The demo features the latest version of the PAIN Engine and with it, the latest enhancements from the 1.35 update. In the popular 'Military Base' level, players will enjoy effects such as heat and haze distortion, light blooms, per pixel specular mapping, new shader effects and tweaks for the latest video cards. All in all, a mere taste of what the PAIN Engine will offer in the expansion pack, Painkiller: Battle out of Hell."

I was not impressed with this demo. The first demo was still the best.

Win xp home 3.2 gig p4 1 gig ram gforce 5900 Ultra. No spy bots, latest Drivers. I shut off dynamic lighting and it ran fine.

I played the first Painkiller demo... man was it boring. As was Serious Sam. Doom 3 was a speck more interesting, due to the atmosphere, but not much. Bring on HL2, baby!

Console-itus has infected the game devs. And cheap intenet access and lower hardware prices allowed for the new fastfood nation gamers. LOL

I'd say bloom is like the effect in old movies or soaps where they used a soft or blurry lens when cutting to a actress close up. Or maybe close to the effect of a dream sequence in a movie, where everything is a bit fuzzy. But also with bloom, you get a bit more brightness, like a bit overexposed, but depends from game to game.

I find it pretty funny that people flame Doom 3 while adoring Painkiller, which is even worse than Wolf3D, except for the graphics

I think most people must be like the rest of us who thought Painkiller looked great but was awful game play.

Only 23 messages about this demo? Not much interest.

About Serious Sam 2? Those Croteam guys are a bunch of liars. I love Serious Sam. Best game I have played in years. They promised a patch. 1 1/2 years later they decided there was no patch. They said they were gonna do biweekly updates on Serious Sam 2. Then it was monthly. Last I looked I think it was bi monthly.

I love their game but they cannot be trusted about any dates they give or promises they make. I think it is because they sold out to Satan, er microsoft. The reason they ditched the promised patch was because they made an XBox Serious Sam instead.

Now they are contaminated with evil, er microsoft work ethos. Like Bungie. Promise a game and have it ready years later.

If Serious Sam 2 is an Xbox only like Halo 2, I think that will mean that the end of the world is near.

A lot of developers have used it badly though (Deus Ex 2, Thief 3)

I like the bloom effect in some games, and I thought Thief 3 looked great. It added to the atmosphere of the game somehow.

Filefront is a horrible downloading site, one of the worst IMO. Besides goofy crap like the password you also get to click through several different screens with ads and other garbage. Once you get to downloading the speed is shite. Avoid at all costs.

The demo just seemed like Serious Sam 3 or something, waves of identical monsters running at you. Graphics were better than in SS, but I wasn't very impressed, perhaps with a greater variety of monsters or weapons. Just a medicore game in my book.

Why is this file asking for a password when I try to unzip it?
I downloaded from Filefront, and I've tried using both Winzip and Winrar.

It's 189,896,145 bytes.

EDIT: NM, password from Filefront is "specular"...weird though.

HELP!

Bloom was one of the first things I turned off when I tried the new demo. There are ways it can be implemented in a realistic, cool manner, such as Tribes: Vengeance where the "Glow" effect is used very lightly only on specific high-intensity sources(inv stations, vehicle running lights, etc), but in Painkiller it's just giving everything a washed out look. Now the other effects such as the shadows heat haze look really good, and have me looking forward to the expansion.

you should have seen the final level, was/is probably the best level of any game, utter genius.

unfortunatly the end boss was a little retarded in how you killed him but other than that the game is worth it for just that one level
