GTR Demo

Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines, as a playable demo for GTR is now available, offering the chance to test-drive the upcoming racing simulator from SimBin. The 215 MB download is available on this pop-up page on the official GTR Website and mirrored on 3D Gamers, 4Players.de, Boomtown (registration required), FileFront, Filerush (torrent), Gameguru Mania, Gamer's Hell, and Worthplaying. Here's the official description:
GTR’s official demo provides the opportunity to try both the pick-up-and-play Arcade Mode as well as Semi-Pro Mode for the more experienced user. Now everybody can improve their skills at the world-famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in the Lister’s Storm supercar (GT class) and Morgan’s unique Aero 8 (NGT class).

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) in GTR is groundbreaking in the racing genre – your opponents will attempt to pass and re-pass you, pressure you into making mistakes and even make mistakes themselves. In the demo you are able to race against up to 19 AI opponents with no time limits.

Is this pretty much the exact same as the press demo that was accidentally released earlier but then allowed to stay out? Or is there reason enough to re-download this new version..

Its a new demo which allows you to race against AI. Hopefully it has multiplayer also. Its also the "offical demo" and not the press release.

GTR utilises StarForce copy protection technology. You may be asked to restart your PC to finalize StarForce drivers installation on your first run of the demo.

Why the hell are people putting this crap in demos?

I'm not much into these types of games normally, but I played the leaked press demo and it was amazing, the sounds and the way the car reacts are just awesome. I can't wait till I get off work so I can try out the new demo with some AI opponents.

Gonna have to dust off my steering wheel and pedals now!

"Why the hell are people putting this crap in demos?"

I read in a StarForce interview that they have to use the copy protection on the demo exe too, or crackers have an easier point of reference.

This may well be true but we all know the game will still be cracked and available in no time, so yet again they just end up annoying people with legitimate copies.

I would worry about it having starforce, but i already picked it up from Vice City or Max Payne 2...so...looks lie it won't really affect me. Unlike the my broken steering wheel.

I'd imagine they put it in a demo, so that when interested gamers go out to get the full version, they already have Starforce embedded on their systems, and it keeps users legit.

Either way, fuck'em. I was going to check this demo out, but now I won't bother (listen up devs). Why bother anyway - I have Richard Burns Rally, and that of course, is the holy grail of driving sims.

(...without Starforce, too)

Ok, so it's the copy protection folks trying to further justify their existence. How stupid. Yes, let's give people a reason NOT to try our demo.

Personally I'll try this demo anyway (because the press demo was so good) and I don't care that much about StarForce, it's just an annoyance...

I thought that too, but there appeared to be a certain coincidence between not having them and not having starforce...installing them and getting starforce. Maybe I missed something, maybe its uk-spec, no idea, but i was thinking that's where it came from for me.

Richard Burns Rally is awesome but GTR is about the only sim that is just as good. #$%& it might even be better then RBR! How can you pass it up!

"How can you pass it up!"

It's simple, really. I don't know the game, so they've got that against them. Now, they had an opportunity to get a new customer with this demo, but they chose to go with software that... well, let's just say has a horrible reputation.

Therefore, I will pass on their game and enjoy my RBR instead.

Not to sound like a Union Boss here, but the people (you, me) have the power, and it's our voice that says what is and what isn't. Use your voice to stand up against software that uses Starforce and in time, Starforce will go the way of the dinosaurs. We must do that, as a united group, each and every time someone selling us a product tries to push something on us we don't want. I say don't bend over and take it up the rear - tell them, "no sale."

Thank you and good night!

They took out simulation mode (bummer) but this demo is for the masses and not the hardcore since they will all buy it anyway. Let’s you practice, qualify, do a formation lap and a rolling start. AI looks very good. Solid multiplayer and this game is a classic.

Most games now adays use some @#$%ed up copy protection. No one likes it but I put my $$$ down on good games and GTR is a great one. Try their GT 2002 mod for F1 2002 and you'll get an idea how good GTR is. The mod is free and has no "starforce" crap. You just need to own F1 2002.

Just throwing my hat in here to say that I won't be checking out this demo either, and it's only because of their choice of copy protection. I know it's been said here a million times before, but apparently developers still don't get it, so I'll say it again:

COPY PROTECTION DOES NOT WORK

THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO SUFFER ARE THOSE WHO ARE HONEST AND BUY THE GAME

FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK QUIT ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO PIRATE GAMES BY MAKING IT EASIER TO USE AN ILLEGAL VERSION THAN A LEGAL VERSION

THANK YOU AND HAVE A NICE DAY

MyRealName, you might want to reconsider, as much as this starforce crap may deter you, passing up GTR is only hurting you. It's by far the most realistic car simulation available, it makes even Gran Turismo look like an arcade simulation. Besides FPS games, GTR is the only other game I play, I've been totally ruined on all other car games. I also bought the ACT labs steering wheel w/ Gated shifter, and BRD pedals (FIA teams use these for their simulators) specifically for use with GTR 2002, so I am freaking out waiting for the full version of GTR to come out.
