After grabbing the zip file from gamers's hell and extracting the installer (GTR_DEMO.EXE), I get an error "the setup files are corrputed". This despite the zip file testing OK in winrar. Anyone else get this?

I'm a bit confused in that autoshift doesn't downshift for me. It will upshift fine, but under braking it will stay in whatever gear I was in, never decreasing...hmmm. Perhaps it's semi auto gearbox.

I didn't want to hook up my wheel for this thing, so with a keyboard it was too hard to shift and steer + throttle. Wish there was a better selection of cars though.

Oh, didn't like Richard Burns Rally, terrible physics, the cars float around, any small hill and I'm flying around.

I don't get it, other than Starforce having some issues with certain disc drives I don't really see a reason to hate it so much. Almost anything we install nowadays has some sort of spyware, adware or copy protection added.

Ive got F1C-99-02 which is what the code of GTR is based off.

Its a freaking good sim no doubt<best phycics ever in a race game period.

But i also must give credit to the team behind Prototype-C,its a Lamans simulation based off the old F1C-99-02 engine as well, cept that Prototype-C is FREE.

Ive fired up the Spa tracks in Prototype-C just to see or get completley trounced by GTR, but that didnt happen,
as a matter of fact prototypr -c just might edge it out.

I know i know theres no way a free product can compete with a high budgeted one thats got major dev support but.....

SimBin started off doing the same thing the ppl at Prototype-C are doing by modding the existing F1C-99-02 engine and giving it away for free.

Im i sounding like im complaining that GTR is gonna be store only, NO its WORTH EVERY BLOODY PENNY. thats not my point,

My point is for all thoses who come here saying < i just dusted off my steering wheel> or < all i play is GTR lol> your missiing out on what might be the greatest sim of all time next to GTR and thats Prototype-C LaMans....

MyRealName, you might want to reconsider, as much as this starforce crap may deter you, passing up GTR is only hurting you. It's by far the most realistic car simulation available, it makes even Gran Turismo look like an arcade simulation. Besides FPS games, GTR is the only other game I play, I've been totally ruined on all other car games. I also bought the ACT labs steering wheel w/ Gated shifter, and BRD pedals (FIA teams use these for their simulators) specifically for use with GTR 2002, so I am freaking out waiting for the full version of GTR to come out.

Just throwing my hat in here to say that I won't be checking out this demo either, and it's only because of their choice of copy protection. I know it's been said here a million times before, but apparently developers still don't get it, so I'll say it again:

Most games now adays use some @#$%ed up copy protection. No one likes it but I put my $$$ down on good games and GTR is a great one. Try their GT 2002 mod for F1 2002 and you'll get an idea how good GTR is. The mod is free and has no "starforce" crap. You just need to own F1 2002.

They took out simulation mode (bummer) but this demo is for the masses and not the hardcore since they will all buy it anyway. Let’s you practice, qualify, do a formation lap and a rolling start. AI looks very good. Solid multiplayer and this game is a classic.

It's simple, really. I don't know the game, so they've got that against them. Now, they had an opportunity to get a new customer with this demo, but they chose to go with software that... well, let's just say has a horrible reputation.

Therefore, I will pass on their game and enjoy my RBR instead.

Not to sound like a Union Boss here, but the people (you, me) have the power, and it's our voice that says what is and what isn't. Use your voice to stand up against software that uses Starforce and in time, Starforce will go the way of the dinosaurs. We must do that, as a united group, each and every time someone selling us a product tries to push something on us we don't want. I say don't bend over and take it up the rear - tell them, "no sale."

Richard Burns Rally is awesome but GTR is about the only sim that is just as good. #$%& it might even be better then RBR! How can you pass it up!

I thought that too, but there appeared to be a certain coincidence between not having them and not having starforce...installing them and getting starforce. Maybe I missed something, maybe its uk-spec, no idea, but i was thinking that's where it came from for me.

I would worry about it having starforce, but i already picked it up from Vice City or Max Payne 2.

Nither Vice CIty or Max Payne 2 use Starforce.

Personally I'll try this demo anyway (because the press demo was so good) and I don't care that much about StarForce, it's just an annoyance...

I'd imagine they put it in a demo, so that when interested gamers go out to get the full version, they already have Starforce embedded on their systems, and it keeps users legit.

Either way, fuck'em. I was going to check this demo out, but now I won't bother (listen up devs). Why bother anyway - I have Richard Burns Rally, and that of course, is the holy grail of driving sims.

I'm not much into these types of games normally, but I played the leaked press demo and it was amazing, the sounds and the way the car reacts are just awesome. I can't wait till I get off work so I can try out the new demo with some AI opponents.

Gonna have to dust off my steering wheel and pedals now!
