New 3DRealms Game?

A comment on a story on Game Matters on original games (thanks GameGossip and HomeLAN Fed) has a quote from 3DRealms' Scott Miller that indicates they've got another game in the works other than Duke Nukem Forever. Here's the whole deal for now:
Id is now working on an original project, and although we're known for Duke, we also helped bring Max Payne to the market, and we're currently working on an unannounced original game, too.

You must be stoned or blind because the last DNF screenshots are like 4 or 5 years old.

Remeber these Gems?
"We're confident that DNF will be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, game of 1998. And this confidence is not misplaced."
- Scott Miller, 1997

"Duke Nukem Forever is a 1999 game and we think that timeframe matches very well with what we have planned for the game."
- George Broussard, 1998

"Trust us, Duke Nukem Forever will rock when it comes out next year."
- Joe Siegler, 1999

"When it's done in 2001."
- 2000 Christmas card

"DNF will come out before Unreal 2."
- George Broussard, 2001

"If DNF is not out in 2001, something's very wrong." - George Broussard, 2001

"DNF will come out before Doom 3."
- George Broussard, 2002

Now people are saying it'll beat Quake 4 out of the gate. I HIGHLY doubt that considering Quake 4 is the cover of the new PC Gamer.

Hmmm. 'nuff said

It's not even going to play phantom games, it's going to play pc games.

Wonder how much they'd charge to connect to Steam and play HL?

Well there is more news on the phantom. It's not really a console. It's a pc more of a pc than an xbox is. It's a small form factor pc. And it's not a console, they are selling a service where you hook it up your broadband connection and can buy games online and play them online through their service and download the game from them and download game demos and rent games and download mods and patches. Nothing cool about it, it's everything you can do on PC already. It's not even going to play phantom games, it's going to play pc games. It's ultra lame.

Check out their website and you see their E3 demo of their shit. And look at their specs, it's a PC. One that will be dated soon and won't be able to play new games anyway because of poor performance well then again it's going to be playing on TV resolution. Also how many developers publishers are going to sign onboard with this system of getting games? They plan on getting games that are released for PC. Games meant to run on monitor resolutions are going to be played at TV resolution. Have you ever read the text from from a PC on a TV screen? It's so blurry you can't read it. The phantom is going to be huge flop.

Look for an announcement making DNF an exclusive title for the Phantom Console.

Well, maybe not, but they both seem to be shooting for the same time frame for a retail product release - never.

They've gone from "I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum...and I'm all outta gum" to "I'm here to look stupid and bullshit...and I'm all outta bullshit."

Anyone know if Shadow Warrior can be made to run decently on Win2k? I can tell you all that System Shock cannot be made to run faster than 3 fps on 3ghz computer...

Well... maybe this original game of theirs will be out around the same time as Duke...
And maybe I'm a chinese jet pilot.

As far as dated goes, I dunno...
The last screenshots I remember were just as cool looking as today's Halflife 2 shots.

Plus a lot of levels? *shrugs*

It's hard to say. We've all been really jaded by the way this industry works, but can we truly say that 3D Realms has ever fucked up?
No, they've simply taken forever with ... Duke Nukem Forever...
Wow, bad pun.

DNF is more likely to disappoint and be like daikatana, lots of levels (because they had so much time to churn levels out) but dated graphics, dated gameplay, dated sound. When has a game that keeps switching engines and is delayed for so long ever been good?

DNF = Dated.

I'm seriously out of DNF jokes now, but I still really really really want it to come out. I just hope it has the same "Fun Factor" duke 3d did. That said, with all the time they've spent, it BETTER give me a hard-on from amazing graphics, gameplay, epic story, comedy, and classic/new duke one liners when I play it.

In a surprise move, 3DR announced they have hired John Romero to develop their latest imaginary game. Film at eleven.

Wrong title - John wasn't hired, the Duke just made him his bitch. Film at 11.
