"The only thing that doesn't thrill me is the whole setting. A WWII lab?"
Is any one else getting tired of people in the future being pre occupied with Nazis?
WWII was 60 years ago. Let it go already. Why not set it in some USA bioweapons lab circa 1990 or so? How about the nuclear plant at Dimona? It is releasing radioactivity so all the people living around it would be great candidates for mutating into things.
It's posssibly because a lot of the secret Nazi projects are still classified... and also because they got up to some really horrible stuff (with specific reference to this) which no-one else has done (or at least been caught). I'd guess part of the premise of this game will be that whatever happened is down to the effects of an initial genetic experiment.
Cliched, granted. On the other hand, cliches are very useful if you want to surprise the player... lead them into what seems a predictable situation and twist it.
They could, of course, relegate the monsters to a side effect of something else..... what makes me curious is how they can make the player feel sufficiently isolated and trapped without making the location feel too unrealistic.
