TRIBES: Vengeance Dedicated Server Plans

A pair of stories on TribalWar (thanks Frans) outline the status of dedicated server software for TRIBES: Vengeance. They have word that a stripped-down server executable is currently in QA at Vivendi Universal that will hopefully be approved for release soon. They also have a quick Q&A with TRIBES brand manager Patrick Dillon on the failure to have a dedicated server ready with the game's release, which they call an "egregious mistake."

T:V hasn't been released world wide yet. Give it time. Not to mention, comparing it to CS really isn't fair...

HUMP- I played the hell outta the beta and the demo so i kinda know what you mean. Anyway, a co-worker of mine picked it up and installed it at work... Some of the maps are really fucking cool. Especially the war torn city map. After seeing that one map I made the decsion to pick up the game today...

theres not all that many people playing the demo now either. I suspect the demo was a little TOO generous. I know I burnt the game out playing it so much that I still havent picked the game up. You'll basically pay $40 for 8 extra maps. I don't know about the rest of ya'll but that isn't all that appealing ATM.

had a healthy following in the demo (a fwe hundred people online at any time) - I logged on yesterday 51 people online... today.. 20 people online.

The reason is simple. The demo was free. The retail version is far from free. Not many people can spend $50 on a game especially with so many other games already on the market.

I'm not 100% sure (ViRGE may be able to tell you more) but I beleive private servers are a big part of the Tribes veterans scene hence the lack of people on pub servers. You might be better off anyhow without them as some of those guys are just ridiculously good.

DUH!

That is why they call you suckers.

Don't forget. Vivendi is all money grubbing vultures. Who else do they have? HL2? Is Blizzard part of Vivendi now?

"what kind of FUCKING MORON doesn't plan for this integral element in a predominantly online franchise"

Actually, the now-departed producer "Thrax" says that the dedicated server was always planned; he's not sure what Patrick is talking about at this point. Perhaps he's eluding to that VU decided to have them complete the server after the client, instead of the other way around.

I think the game is really solid and much to my surprise, the singleplayer mode is great. Please don't compare this game with the release of T2, because it's not even close. I agree that the lack of dedicated server upon release wasn't the best decision, but they are working on it, and it will be released soon. You've got to give the devs credit where credit is due... the game is awesome and I thank them for that.

While playing this game, all I can think is that T:V is what T2 should have been. It's almost like the gameplay in T2 should have come after T:V in the series.

And btw, I had no problem finding online game last night. In fact, I found some really good ones with people who actually know how to play the game.

Made the same experience after sending about 15 bug reports.
I couldnt really believe what I saw in the MP demo.

Bug reports that have been posted since at least the open beta, even before the open beta, have not been corrected. I've been there since the open beta. I have made bug reports and I was told they were "logged" by IG people and then saw them not get corrected in the MP demo or in the final game.

Me too. I specifically posted a couple times about "are these comments actually being noted and implemented" and the devs assured us they were. Makes them seem like lazy liars, if you ask me.

(EDIT-) And this surprises me. From everything I'd seen up to the open beta, there were promises to listen to the community, really make the game "for the people", and yet we have this. Not to say you can please all the people all the time, but from the reviews I'm reading there are an awful lot of elements (inventory management, for one) that had great suggestions of how to make better and the devs completely ignored them.

it is a bit odd - im not sure i totally understand that explanation

the single player game is pretty damn fun tho... alot longer than i thought it would be too - and that 'mercury' character is cool as hell

You know, it's so funny. The Tribes 2 release was a disaster and now they are doing just everything to pull another shaky release.
