"Shocking" Irrational Announcement Tomorrow?

There's a System Shock 2 Retrospective on GameSpot (thanks Ant) that looks back at the highly regarded action/RPG sequel. According to the article's conclusion, this interest is more than academic, as they tease plans for an announcement related to all this tomorrow:
But why even look back at System Shock 2 at this point? Because Irrational has been, and it plans to make a related announcement this Friday (tomorrow). The studio has decided that it wishes to further what it started in System Shock 2--to work on games that promote "emergent" gameplay--open-ended exploration that offers many choices and combinations of options to players. You'll see what we mean tomorrow. Be sure to come back then.

Ant, ever hear of this:

"Other Info:
There's also the System Shock Hack Project at:
http://madeira.physiol.ucl.ac.uk/tsshp/sshock.html
This is a project "in-the-works", not a truly playable replacement (yet).

For System Shock 2 owners (SS1 maps converted to SS2, just for fun):
http://madeira.physiol.ucl.ac.uk/tsshp/glen/ss1.html"

Links are clearly dead, anyone know what happened to these projects?

....Downloading shitload of freeware WinXP-Dos programs I have no idea how to use, probably virus-infested, I don't care......Just found my TN:SFC cd, inside the case it says "Terra Nova Multi-Player Pack Coming".....gonna have another drink.

EDIT: FOUND MY SS CD! I AM NOT A PIRATE...not that I wouldn't have been, if I needed to be.

Ah, SS is around as abandonware...excellent...now I just have to rummage through the garage for my trusty old Pentium 90, vacuum out a pound of hair and dust, uninstall Win 95, install MSDOS 6.0, install SB drivers, mouse drivers, maybe memmanager, emm386, work that 640k for a while...it's still worth it.

EDIT: or try this first:

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=023b9870345115d9b766cc40c4ebfb4e&t=69578

EDIT2: Thanks Ant, I had the same idea when I tried to grab the old computer from the shelf and slashed my fingers on the case, barely got it on the floor before I dropped it (damn these things used to be HEAVY!) and saw that, yes, there really is a pound of dust in it <cough>. I really hope this works...

Of course, Terra Nova 2 would also kickass.

I really liked that game too.

I wrote to Looking Glass one time, asking them a technical question about the original Flight Unlimited (another great game). I mentioned Terra Nova as one of the other titles I had and asked whether a sequel might be coming out. The LG dude wrote back and said, "Don't expect any sequel to Terra Nova, it was a HUGE BOMB." So I guess they lost some money there.

edit: to clarify...the above took place in 1996, friends!

I agree that Terra Nova 2 would be fucking amazing.

Maybe this time they could actually come through for us and include multiplay. I would have an orgasm right there upon hearing the news.

I can see it now.

Exclusive for XBOX2 (may come on PC soon after).

I know, this is borderline trolling, but you know it's going to be cross-platform... :/

Terra Nova 2! Oh the agony of this wait! WHY DID LOOKING GLASS HAVE TO DIE???!!! It's like losing a child! ARRRGGGHHHH>>>>>>

I need a drink.

I don't see how you could do a prequel, maybe the life of the hacker before Diego catches him? SS without SHODAN makes no sense...

SS3 would be so fucking incredible I'd be in hog heaven. However, from the tone it isn't that... maybe a prequel ? I hope, at least, that its in the same universe as the SS series.

Of course, Terra Nova 2 would also kickass.

EDIT: you can actually pickup SS and SS2 as abandonware in some places - getting it to run on Win XP is another matter

Damn it, I think I've lost my SS1 cd...it wouldn't be piracy to download a 10 year old game from a company that no longer exists, right? Right.

I wonder if anyone has posted clips of Shodan's voice on the web....

"You'll see what we mean tomorrow. Be sure to come back then."

I see the Valve "promise them what they've always wanted and then tell them it'll be here tommorrow" strategy is spreading...fuckers...

Will someone please hack Gamespot for us?

Shodan says: Prepare for System Shock 3 insect.

I just hope that it's not going to be developed for xbox or else we are going to have the same xboxification as we have seen with deus ex 2 aka deus ex invisible war.

OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD.

I consider System Shock 2 to the best game ever made.

I'm going insane!

Although to be honest, SS2 is so damned perfect, that a sequel would only be a good thing if the EXACT SAME development team made it. Its those people that made the game so great, and if the exact same team doesn't make a sequel, it won't be as good. Plain and simple. OH MY GOD. A remake perhaps? Under Source or the Doom3 engine, or Unreal 3? FUCK!

Oh my god...I'm more excited about this than fucking HL2 and Halo 2 put together! HURRY UP IRRATIONAL! I WILL SUCK YOU OFF FOR A NEW SS GAME!

From reading that, it doesn't sound like it'll be SS3, but perhaps it'll be some new property that plays similarly. I believe the rights to the SS franchise are still stuck in legal limbo.

I really wish I had asked Andrew if he knew what this was today. Maybe I should've bought him lunch.

From the Gamespot article "Here's a hint: it will likely please fans of System Shock 2." OMG OMG OMG OMG O M F G

I remember the final cinema from SS2...I wonder where that shuttle was going...

I can still hear Shodan's voice in my head after all these years...
