Ships Ahoy: TRIBES: Vengeance

Vivendi announces that TRIBES: Vengeance has shipped to stores as expected:
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 5, 2004) – Vivendi Universal Games announced today that their upcoming PC first-person action game Tribes:Vengeance has shipped to retail stores in the United States.

Single-player and multi-player trial versions for Tribes:Vengeance and more information about the game can be found at the official website: http://www.tribesvengeance.com.

In Tribes:Vengeance gamers become immersed in a roiling galactic thriller. Throughout the game, the player catches glimpses of myriad interrelated stories that unfold behind-the-scenes and is given the opportunity to experience the full scope of the single-player story through multiple viewpoints and characters. Utilizing the all-new Vengeance Engine powered by Unreal™ technology, the world is brought to life with characters that have facial expressions and fully-realized personalities, vehicles that kick up dust as they pass by, and weapons that display spectacular effects. Tribes:Vengeance will also build upon the Tribes series’ legendary online multiplayer action by continuing to focus on team-oriented goals and fluid movement. Particular focus is being given to making Tribes:Vengeance easily accessible to the video game modification (MOD) community. Irrational Games and VU Games have worked together to ensure that Tribes:Vengeance’s game modification tools are easily accessible and robust.

thats because "back in the day" (of the late 80's to mid 90's) most of the people that owned computers were considered "computer nerds" or "geeks" and AOL was nothing more than a glorified chat room... this led to a market base of "intellectuals" or "aging hippie" programmers..

it is a far cry from the PC based society that exists today - which reaches widely into "lowest common denominator" sections of the populace - and of course has been noticed by the multi-billion dollar entertainment industry as just another lucrative profit source

the days which gave birth to games like X-com and Doom and Elite and so on ARE DEAD FOREVER

welcome to the New World Order - strap on a helmet and get used to it

JosephBlowski is dead on. 90 percent of the kids online are fucking retards. I see the situation he describes when I play BF1942, BF:V, Tribes Vengeance, UT2k4, and any mods based on any of previous.

I remember quake 1.. back when people were good. Good times. These days you usually either have clanners with teamspeak taking over a server and owning the newbs or 10 percent of each side actually having someone that knows how to fucking play the game.. everyone else is just milling around like retards.

Don't tell me you guy's haven't seen this...

I had a Classic server Filter enabled but out of those I would say that there were only a handful of servers which were populated...

I fired up Tribes2 on Monday and I had a blast...

Just out of curiosity, how many servers/players are out there?

Not to mention Weapons Factory

WF for Q3, hands down my favorite mod of all time. It beat Team Fortress by a mile (I'm refferring to the Q3 versions). Unfortunately over-the-top just-for-fun mods aren't in style anymore. Everything has to be real-world based now.

Pah!!

Yeah, don't have any issues with the netcode either...

I'm not sure if I am gonna pick this one up right away. I fired up Tribes2 on Monday and I had a blast... There's so much I can do; pilot a bomber, engineer, cloaker, shrike pilot, farmer, annoying bastard, etc... In T:V it seems like I have 2 choices... Cap the flag or defend the flag...

T:V's netcode feels the smoothest out of any Unreal engine based game I've played. Maybe not perfect, but more than playable.

Best Buy is saying it will be available on the 12th. WTF?

The 12th was the original shipping date (I'm pretty sure anyway) but, obviously, it went gold earlier than expected. If you have a software place nearby like EB or Gamestop you might be better off calling there as they tend to keep up to date with last minute changes like this.

I pine for the days of Quake II, no vehicles and grapple monkeys moving thru the maps at the speed of light with the evasiveness of a really pesky fly.

sounds like you get owned on a regular basis nowadays Blowski.

wow - not only do toronto stores not have it - futureshop, and most eb games don't even have a projection for when it's coming in - they have never heard of it. Wow - thanks for that, vivendi.

Tribes was always a great deal about speed. You cant compare it with the speed of shooters like Doom3. If they would have replaced the hell monsters by some idiot designed orcs or designed it as some non-scary shooter a la Serious Sam I wouldnt picked up Doom3 either.
The TV beta was awesome in the speed aspect, I might even say better than T1, but they completely screwed it for me and (YES YES) OTHERS with these tweaks (take a look at the Tribalwar kindergarten). I sometimes thought I was back to T2 base, its that slow now.

Tribes is Tribes. If they change so much on features that made Tribes unique, it isnt really worth to be called Tribes anymore.

And why the fuck shouldnt we complain about a bad netcode???

I just think they kinda cheesed it is all. It feels dumbed down. Skiing should be a learned skill, not a one button weakfest. Stuff like burning terminals look's retarded. Hell I think Tribes 2 looked better than this game does. Vehicles didn't impress at all.

Who knows, maybe once modded or patched it will be better. Just seems like they took a "gamer's game" and turned it into a mainstream UT2004 mod.

I loved playing the beta version, something about it just felt right. After I downloaded the Demo MP, there was something that didn't feel as good, something was different. Gotta say I'm gonna pass this one over.

It probably was the increased lag, decreased skiing speed & jetpack power.

Seriously, to each his own. But man you guys are fickle. Did you pick up Doom3? Eventhough player speeds were way slower than previous versions? What? What weapons were different too? How could you? Of course you picked it up, even if "things didn't feel as good" as before. Seems a little off, especially since you both "liked" the beta.

the tribes series has been a pivotal force in the mod community and i dont see how this iteration will be any different - hell there is a pro-level starseige mod already in production, as well as the new renegades (which will probably add all the old packs back in, along with some new ones and of course new weapons)

either you get it or you dont - its still tribes at heart, regardless of how many or how loud comparisons are... TRIBES CAME BEFORE UT... its like saying warcraft is too much like starcraft... uh, no shit
