Ships Ahoy - Law & Order: Justice is Served

Law & Order Justice is Served PC Game Ships to Retail Outlets Nationwide is the press release announcing the U.S. availability of the new installment in the series of games based on the smash-hit television series. Here's a bit: "First, players will begin as part of the investigators alongside Detectives Lennie Briscoe (Orbach) and Ed Green (Martin) having to gather and analyze evidence, solve puzzles, and interrogate witnesses. Then, players move to the courtroom and assume the role of Assistant District Attorney. With the help of A.D.A. Serena Southerlyn (Röhm), players must build a case against the defendant and convince the jury to return a guilty verdict. Tennis personality Patrick McEnroe makes a cameo appearance in Law & Order: Justice is Served, and is featured as himself."

Unfortunately, I think Java is still a bit too slow (abstracted VM language) for games use (i.e. you want to squeeze every last ounce of performance, not really possible in java).
Shame, cos that's the language I use.... there is a set of Java3d wrappers for OpenGL & DirectX, tho. I think 'Vampire:The Masquerade' ran on a JVM, but i'm not sure because that's second-hand info I only vaguely remember.

Is Orbach not in the L&O tv show anymore?

I've been told I look like Jerry Orbach. But that was when I had short hair...

Still scary, though...

This game isn't worth it unless it loops a 30 second sound byte of the intro song to Law & Order OVER and OVER for all eternity. Because thats what happens inside my brain when I'm forced to watch this lame ass show on the tele.

Also - I heard these games are done in Java. It would make sense if they were trying to ship Mac, PC, Linux, etc. on the same disc, but then I see that it's PC CD-ROM only.

If true, it seems like a little bit of a wasted opportunity, except that Mac isn't much of a market and Linux folks probably don't care for it.

Still, wouldn't Sun be jumping on the fact that Java powered a mass-market 3D engine game that few people are complaining about being able to run?

Nope, the final episode of last season was his last appearance. He's been replaced by Dennis Farina.
