On WoW Release Dates

World of Warcraft coming in November? on IGN offers a revelation from deep within a VUG earnings report of some release dates they've listed for World of Warcraft, Blizzard's upcoming MMORPG. The report lists a November U.S. release date, a December date for Korea, Early 2005 in Europe, and later that year for China and Taiwan. They also point out that it is Blizzard, not Vivendi, that has the final say in the game's release, so these dates might not be accurate, though the staggered release over various territories is probably an indicator of how the game will actually be rolled out around the world.

IGN did't find this other than looking at their own boards and the users posting it

The downtime is much less than EQ. I doubt most people who played WoW for any length of time could stand going back to EQ.

The game features rather typical level grind and mundane questing ("collect x of this from y mob"), but the thing with WoW is, it doesn't feel like typical level grind and mundane questing. I have no idea why. The world has a very cool look and feel to it, and the tradeskills are pretty fun.

Or it could be that the industry knows fat, tasteless Americans will consume anything, so it subjects them to an extended beta-testing period before releasing a polished product to a more discerning customer base.

No, that can't be it, I know a lot of fat, tasteless Europeans who'd love to play an extended beta-version even for money.

I guess it's understandable that the German, French and Italian versions take longer than the English versions, but I wouldn't want to play the German version anyway and I'd love to see the English versions be released in time with the American release. Plus there's no reasons why the Brits have to pay for out countries insistence to stick with their own individual languages. Plus importing from the UK is supposedly quite painless.

Well, the game is rubbish. It used to be good, but now it's just an EQ clone, and it's becoming more and more like EQ with every successive patch. Working as intended, hah. Take that, weak, useless warriors!

The industry thinks Europeans like it up the ass. Might as well get used to it. Drop your pants...

When game publishers around the world start releasing unfinished games to the masses in order to get them out before Christmas.

Usually followed by January Patch Month, for those games lucky enough to sell.

vivendi has always been very bad when it comes to release dates.
especially with blizzard products, even when theyve claimed a "world wide release date"
