Men of Valor Demo

As promised, the demo version of Men of Valor is now available, allowing the chance to go in country with 2015's upcoming first-person shooter set in the Vietnam War. Here's a bit from when the demo was announced (story) describing its contents: "...a large urban environment and a small jungle environment from the game. It will sport three game types: deathmatch, team deathmatch, and multiplayer mission. Players will be also able to select from three multiplayer classes: rifleman, machinegunner, and sniper." The demo debuted on GameSpot DLX (registration required) and the 336 MB download is mirrored on 3D Downloads, 3D Gamers, 4Players.de, ActionTrip, Boomtown, ComputerGames.Ro, FileFront, Filerush (torrent), Gameguru Mania, Gamer's Hell, Games-Fusion, JustGamers, and Worthplaying.

Wow, Shataan. You are one funny guy. You've been cutting and pasting this into all the forums. Kudos to you, sir.

Hey, get this! I'm running an AMD Athlon XP2600 w/ 512 MB PC3200, nVidia FX5200(128Mb) all the latest drivers etc...And the Demo performs so f---ing slow at medium to low setting that it IS UNPLAYABLE! Huge delay between the time I press fire and the gun actually shows signs of life.
I dont exactly have a PRO system, but damn! whats up here?
(cool graphics though)

Fire for effect..... the NVAs` got us pinned behind a small pile of bricks maybe 2 or 3 bricks high! We NEED a ladder! Do you copy?!!!! Air drop us a ladder ASAP, and put up cover smoke so we can make it over the top of the small brick pile and take as little casualties as possible! Do you read me?!!"

I agree - if you could incorporate the Viet Cong gameplay mechanics with the great looking maps of MOV demo, you'd have quite a game. I think we only disagree in that I would say the controls are ok, not bad. Hopefully they can tweak it. The nice visuals are not just superficial - they actually helping gameplay because of the level of cover provided.

"MOV reminds me of Vietcong (which you should go buy now if you don't have it) in that you can be behind cover and firing at someone else behind cover and have an extended shootout."

Accept that in Vietcong, it doesn`t feel futile to try to run for cover. lol And the fact you can crouchwalk and aim and your feet don`t stop working. MoV sports the game worlds 1st Matrix Bullet time run/walk/crouchwalk speeds.

I feel like I am trying to run with my bootstrings tied together. And crawlspeed is like we have no arms. TOO SLOW. What good is content, and form=nice visuals, when control function is non existant?

53, Probably to keep the DL size as small as possible. Even with the little bit of content in the demo, it's still 300+ MBs to download.

the urban map is very cool - compare the level of detail to BF:V (which i like a lot). Small map, but tons of detail. Makes for an interesting experience. I think it had a nice feel. Could use tweaks on the netcode, saw some lag and teleporting. The main thing I like though, is that the gameplay lends itself to extended gun battles. In most FPS, once two players see each other, it is over with .5 seconds - first mover usually wins. MOV reminds me of Vietcong (which you should go buy now if you don't have it) in that you can be behind cover and firing at someone else behind cover and have an extended shootout.

come on guys where is the innovation?

I might be to old school but i remember when we used to get different games and not copycats so much.

Oh dont get me wrong its prob very pretty game with 0 innovation.

We fat ass lazy overweight pompus gamers are being treated like the overweight pigs that we are.

Do we care if there is another FPS in the works based on Vietnam or WW2? Nooooooo we say bring it on we love this stuff we CANT get enough of this clone mentality please give us more games like this... we beg you.

Oh why use your resources to innovate? please dont waste them on us as we are lowly gamers who will be fooled into thinking we got a new game and all we get is new graphics and the same old settings.

We dont matter so please keep cranking out the same ole stuff and forget about the days when developers took a chance and made a game cause its fun and different.

Oh how i long for the days of M.U.L.E, Archon, Adventure construction set,Sundog!!!!!!!! Kings quest,ELITE,Ultima 1 & 2 , SyndicateWars, Eye of the beholder!!! Dungeon Master!!!!!!

ok ok enough *weeps uncontrollably and slowley clicks his mouse over the Call of Duty icon on his desktop*

pfft, if you took the fps meter out of games people couldn't tell the difference between 24 and 75 fps. it's all in yer mind. shooter devs should put this piece of code in their games:
if realfps < 24 then realfps += rnd
and players would all be going "wow this game Looks Really Good on my machine". it's just a psychological illusion.

No way can this be final release code.

1: running anywhere feels futile. Evading is almost useless. Crawling as well. I find it odd watching players and they seem to be moving at a decent speed, even when they crawl. But that speed is not indicative when viewing the gameworld thru MY eyes. No jump... so ya can`t jump over small obstacles, ya gotta go around low ground debri?

walk/run/crouchwalk need bigtime addressing to get the FEEL right. At the moment it is like we are doing the Matrix bullet time thing.

2: when you crawl anywhere near the water, the game takes control and puts you into a crouch. Great for the XBox, horrible for a PC game to do this.

3: hit crouch and you crouch instantly in split second time. Again good for the XBox, but crazy unrealistic for the PC version.

4: mouse 2 rifle to shoulder view doesn`t pan smoothly. It jumps unrealisticly to a zoomed view. Yuck. Sniper rifle has no zoom enhancement=ya can`t adjust the zoom, and the rate of fire and no recoil makes it uber.

The list goes on. This all leads to me to think that no way can the demo be indicative of the final release. Everywhere I go players are saying the demo blows. There is just too much XBox control going on here, and no intuitive PC control such as we see in the MoH demo for example.

I love the visuals even tho stuff like decals is not in the demo, or even high rez textures. The sounds tho really quiet seem good too. If the player movment feel and control issues are polished properly and done from a realism feel angle... and the weap balancing done the same..... this could be an awesome mil combat experience.

51 (pal), what good is your post if you haven't played it? Sounds like you've made your decision without a playthrough. A lot of these guys are not giving the game more than a minute, and their mind is made up.

What I don't understand is why VU and 2015 didn't allow for more classes in the demo. There's VC/Green berets who can plant booby traps and claymores, a medic and many others. Would have made the experience closer to what I saw on the XBox.

I'm curious how you're getting FPS info from the game? I haven't been able to do so yet. It's an Unreal game, but the usual Unreal command for FPS (stat fps) doesn't seem to work. You seem to be gettting pretty specific numbers, though - mentioning that you dropped to as low as 16 FPS. What's the command to get MoV to show the framerate?

"The kicker is that my machine is an Athlon64 3500+ OCed to 2.5ghz and an 6800 Ultra at 410/1.12ghz. 12,700 3dMarks in 2k3 should be proof that this game is just sloppy coding/ unoptimized."

That's the funny thing. My machine is a few years old - only have a P4 2.0 w/ a Ti4600, but I didn't notice any discernable hitching or stuttering - the usual signs for bad framerate. I'm honestly curious - how did you get your numbers?

Hey pal, there are two very important words in my statement you decided to jump over: sounds like. I'm not calling it "WORST GAME EVAR!!!" and I wouldn't, not having played it, but I do pay attention to the fact that half the posts on here are dogging the title. Therefore, it sounds like the game isn't very fun and they've pushed it out the door. That's too bad and implies ill of what's happened to the dev team in the space since Medal of Honor considering its strong initial showing.

I'm an FPS whore and as such will probably download it and check it out later anyway, but do I need to break out the goddamn sock puppets to explain an early-morning post to you?

Sorry for getting OT.

they just posted a preview with movies. Xbox MP movies don't have the sound bug, so that must be a PC specific issue. Weapon sounds are not being cut off, which is good, but they don't sound as good as as some other games.

Ambient sounds nice.

You guys make it seem like the guys who left 2015 are the only ones capaple of make good games. This demo has problems and looks like it was rushed out before it should have, but it looks great and plays fine.

A lot of these other posts seem fishy to me. I don't care about what guys like 48 have to say if he hasn't played it. He comes on here and says that, since a lot of the MOH guys left, it must be bad. That's crap. How many of the IW guys are still at IW? Are they the only people capable of making a good game? Does every company that gets a guy from IW get to announce the second coming of game developers?

That's too bad - sounds like 2015 proved that all the talent really did leave for Infinity Ward after Men of Honor.

I don't think I'm going to download this one after all...
