Thanks for the kind note about the Trek mod were working on. Me and two others have done some model conversions into the Lightwave format which is used for the game, but currently we've hit a snag on some details. We're hoping to speed up developement on the mod once the game is released and we've got to try it out thoroughly in both single and multiplayer.

Its great that the game is finally coming...

I would have picked it up in a heartbeat if this had become Imperium Galactica 3, but since it's now a seeming Homeworld / Bridge Commander type game, I think I'll give it a pass.

Also, the graphics aren't THAT great, guys, it doesn't look a jot better than X2 did last year. No normal mapping is really quite unforgivable nowadays.

Normal Mapping = Goodness.

Quite a shame, really, that this title turned out the way it did. And then to REALLY make matters much better for themselves, they release during the busiest period of the year, when there are a ton of titles bying for people's money. A great way of making sure your development house will go bankrupt (mark my words).

I agree chip, I think the last sci-fi game that had a great story and stunning graphics for its time was freespace 2,

I'm not a simulation fan (how do you simulate far future space travel--- wotever, you get the point...) but FS2 is the standard. I'm fairly sure everyone else knows that. Just remember, sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees...

Looking at some of the screenshots (and it IS stunning to look at) theres a few that reminded me of what a modern FS2 sequel would *probably*look like:

don't think this type of game will be my cup of tea though =(

I agree chip, I think the last sci-fi game that had a great story and stunning graphics for its time was freespace 2, since that they have all been kinda ho-hum. Oh ,I guess I left out I-war 2, it had a pretty good story and it was damn fun to play.

lol sugarman.....

Paid... no, not in the least although I wish... Got Christmas coming up. I just really like the way the game handles and finally getting a good story in a Scifi game. It has been a long time since we had one of those..... plus I am starting to get burned out on FPS.

Oh yea, and CDV can lick my balls for cancelling this 2 years ago and making us wait, "I had to throw that in".

I think chip is being paid to promote this, do a search for nexus on google and you'll find chip posting like crazy all over different message boards, hehe, just givig you a hard time chip.
I mastered the old IG3 demo and the new one was pretty damn hard to learn still. As chip told me, "the spacebar is your friend", that pauses the game while you issue commands to your ships, for those who don't read the manual. I had to read the manual twice and visit the forums to finally understand the demo enough to have fun. I agree it was a mistake not to include a tutorial but after waiting 2 years for this I'm just happy it's being released. I think the mods for this game will also be awesome, if anyone hasn't checked it out yet someone has already started a star trek mod, and his models are looking quite good. Just visit the nexus forums and look at the mod section.

Only bad part is I'm gonna have to teach my friends how to play since I have the occasional lan party at my house and they are what you would call a lazy gamer "plays whatever comes easiest to them without having to put forth any real effort into learning something".

This isn't IG3 and what they had to develop for IG3 got scrapped. CDV wanted the developers to tie in the Imperium Galactica IP and they wouldn't take no for an answer. They didn't like what they saw, so they cancelled it. Got picked up by HD Interactive and they went back tot he original vision for the game: Tactical Combat via Mech Commander like rules.

It looks very pretty but they all seem to be about ship combat. Where's the planetary development mini-simcity? The research, the diplomicy, the spying, the manufacturing? IG2 was a surprisingly excellent game - it never got much press or high sales, but there are a lot of people who like it. Every year PC Gamer UK has a run down of the top 100 games by vote and it consistantly rates about 35th with a blurb that basically states the hack's surprise.

I was hoping for a sequel to IG2 too. I'd love to see that with updated graphics, a new interface and a few tweaks.

Soon as I can and i am a HUGE IG2 fan, but Hedgemonia kinda upset me and I just couldnt get into HW2 or X2, so I will give this a try.
The graphic's look amazing btw and the NEW demo really impressed me "even though i didnt grasp it as there is no tutorial in the demo".

Cant wait for ELITE 4....

isn´t it obvious? they´re trying to use the doom3 hype to boost interest/sales.

i was orginally really looking forward to imperium galactica 3 (being a huge fan of ig2) but since it went more and more towards a homeworld clone....dunno.

"Doom 3 of Space titles"? WHat the fuck is that?

I'm sure they meant that it's highly anticipated, like DOOM 3 was. Of course, DOOM 3 didn't have two name changes and get cancelled twice.
