SW: Battlefront Patch

The first patch for the PC edition of Star Wars Battlefront is now available on the LucasArts Entertainment Company Website, updating Pandemic's science fiction action game to version 1.00a. The update "Improves NAT negotiation for online games which may help improve multiplayer performance," and offers a "Minor fix to server browser screen." Thanks Frans.

I didn't have much expectations for this game but after I started playing it I really enjoyed it! I love Star Wars since I was 5 yrs. old and I always wanted a game like this for the SW universe... my expectations have been met. I can't help but think how much I used to love playing with my SW action figures and now as a adult it's like I have a new toy and I'm feelin' like a kid again. I'm really glad this game came out and it looks to be successful already which means we will have more of this in the near future. I can't wait till it gets patched a few more times and it really starts to shine. Also, I am hoping the patches will address single player issues as well as multi and make the bots better and better (although they are far from bad now). At least you can play a decent single player game in this and have a decent fun time unlike BF1942 which it's single player was useless

This game is much better than I expected after hearing it slammed by people here

I'm having an absolute blast with this game, I don't know about anyone else. The only points I dont like have been mentioned already which is poor net performance and menu bugs. To me thats more of a polishing issue than anything else. At first I did think that the bot AI sucked but thats not really the case at all. Matter of fact, I've been having more fun with the bots than online, not just because of the netcode but also because the bots can play a good challenging game.

Anyone dissing this out of hand simply because its made by Lucasarts is cheating themselves out of a very fun game.

not for nuthin', but this patch gimps the server browser even more than it was gimped before.

think i might rollback to a previous version (e.g. a fresh install) until they get it right. looks like most of the good servers are all running 1.00 anyway :-(

One of the main things that I would change is that on maps that have extra goals (like destroying the bunker or destroying the escaping ships etc),there needs to be more of a reason to accomplish them. It seems like you are better off ignoring them and just work on wiping out the enemy and then you'd be able to do whatever you want. Am I missing something here ?

AI Bots are much smarter than BF1942 Bots and they actualy follow orders. Some maps are too small but I've learned to adjust the speed of the vehicles down for tight manuenvering. What may seem like imballance on some maps just requires a little strategy in groups.
Overall I'm very impressed being the fact its a console port.

On a good server, any Tie Fighter or X-Wing or whatever else they have can rack up a lot of kills very fast

I get the impression that half of the people who slammed it never even played it and just automatically slam anything that also happens to come out on a console. I don't like consoles either but that doesns't automatically make the pc version suck.

There is a screen that lets you adjust AI skill levels. Keep looking.

You can also adjust the number of AI players but you have to start a LAN game with yourself to do that.

The air vehicle controls could use some work but so could the helicopters in BF. I remember that at first I couldn't fly the planes in it either worth squat but got pretty good with a little practice. Maybe that will help here too.

I know this patch just came out, but it seems like the server list is even buggier now. It refreshes very slowly, every server has 16 AI players, but the rest of the values seem right. Every server is at 1 red bar too. Could be something with my computer, curious if anyone else is getting this.

Also want to add that I think they made a good decision to REQUIRE you to exit a vehicle to take a command point. You can't just march up in an AT-AT and sit on the flag, you actually have to put your fragile head in danger to capture in this game. - There's no question that this isn't the be-all-end-all of FPS/vehicle games...but it also isn't utter crap (in my opinion). It does a great job of immersing you in the SW universe. Do I like BFV better overall? ... probably... but I'm enjoying SW:B a lot too

Also useful for capturing command posts far behind enemy lines(considering most people like to spawn closest to the action), fly in, land..capture and fly off as your buddies start spawning and your team flanks the enemy.

getting into vehicles is a waste of time. Apparently the whole game just plays itself while I lazily fly around in a TIE fighter. You can't really shoot the ground forces when flying a tie fighter.. you end up crashing after 30 secs.

You sure you're playing the same Battlefront as I am? Vehicles are OVERPOWERED if anything. And yes you CAN shoot the ground forces,. On a good server it's always the flying vehicles(when enabled) that can turn the tide of battle. Strafing their ranks, supressing ground vehicles. I wonder if you've even played the game? I can go a whole game in a TIE fighter w/out dying once and racking up insane kills off of hapless/clueless troops on the ground, not to mention taking out turrets, dogfighting and etc. I mean really, its not that complicated a game.

This game is growing on me. Been having a blast on many of the maps although the air vehicles are quite useless except for the snowspeeder.

Hoth is the coolest map!

I can't speak for the PC version, but in the Xbox version you CAN specify how many bots are in the game as well as their difficulty level. Not to the extent of UT2Kx customization of indiviual bots, but yes, you can control the total # and their overall difficulty.

Other then that this game OWNS battlefield vietnam, much better coded and more fun.

Its really hard, not with the snow speeder or the X-Wing or Y-Wing, but the TIE Fighter hits the ground much sooner because of its... uhh... solar panels? lol
