Ships Ahoy - Evil Genius

This Sierra Entertainment Press Release (thanks Frans) announces that Evil Genius has shipped to U.S. stores:
In Evil Genius gamers assume the role of a wicked mastermind bent on achieving global domination through the construction of the ultimate doomsday device. A tongue-in-cheek take on the 60's spy thriller genre, Evil Genius offers the chance to be the villain and control a secret island fortress complete with powerful (and strangely dressed) henchmen, mindlessly loyal minions and a wide range of hilarious gizmos.

All the everyday tasks of the megalomaniac are available to experience as players build a secret base, train minions, gain infamy and notoriety by completing daring missions, toy with the forces of justice by setting clever traps, torture captives with ingenious devices, and develop evil super weapons to complete a nefarious master plan.

I'm not sure why boycotting anything but the actual HL2 game would make sense.

I'm sure a boycott would hurt the developers a lot more than the publisher, since I'm sure VU has deeper pockets than Elixir does.

That was the only thing holding me back, now I've gotta go order the game.

Agreed. It just went from a "probably buy" to a "must buy"...

The constant incursion of enemy troops is isolated to the demo and it won't be like that in the full release. There was a press release by the Dev that stated that not so long ago. It'll be like GTA, you will bring the heat upon yourself depending on how 'evil' you are. If you are really friggin evil then you will have swat/spies all over your base, or you can make it quiet, it's up to you. Just an FYI.

Excellent.

That was the only thing holding me back, now I've gotta go order the game.

Edit: Read the link Furius gave--it outlines all of the differences (or most of them) between the demo and the full game. Now I've gotta wait 'till Thursday or Friday for the game.

OK then Bob, it didn't seem a great gameplay dynamic so I'm glad they changed it. Good luck to them, if it can find a voice besides everything else coming out atm then great; they need a hit after Republic sold all of 2 copies and I belive them to be talented devs but still in search of a broad fanbase...

Good demo, but not my bag baby. The constant incursion of enemy troops into the secret base and the need to swat them all was damn annoying. Might as well install a revolving door for the do-gooders...

Edit - Here is the link to the press release I was talking about above; http://www.elixir-studios.co.uk/nonflash/eg/egd_faq.htm

The first question explains the craziness of the demo.

I was never so bummed as when Bullfrog fell apart and the Dungeon Keeper series disappeared into the void. This game looks like the next best thing. I'm looking forward to getting this one.
