DNF Gets Physical

Meqon announces that they are providing the physics engine for Duke Nukem Forever:
3D Realms selects Meqon as physics provider for Duke Nukem Forever

Norrköping, Sweden – 27th of September, Meqon, an up and comer in the physics middleware industry, announced they have been selected by 3D Realms as the physics engine provider for their long awaited game Duke Nukem Forever.

Meqon has been focusing on creating the most easy to use and flexible physics engine in existence. George Broussard, CEO of 3D Realms backs them up - “We evaluated several physics SDK's and Meqon was really fast, had the cleanest interface and integrated into our game very quickly."

The physics engine does not only handle basic rigid body simulation, but extends into character and vehicle enhanced physics as well. Mr Broussard comments, “With its advanced feature set, we feel confident that Meqon's next generation physics engine can help us create the next generation of action games.”

Hey BladeTurbo- You must be an idiot!!! Do you know anything about 3D Realms finances or busines at all? Maybe you should spend less time on the internet and more time going to school, reading the paper (not just comics)and looking at sites other than porn and gaming.

Stop asking stupid questions or get off this site!!!!!

I think I still have my Space Orb. I defenately still use my Boomslang. I just had a brainstorm. A mouse with a controll pad built into it (maybe by the thumb) so you can move your body and your head all with just one mouse. No need for the keyboard. Whacha think?

Hey, if you only need one hand to play, then you know the Doom 3 sex mod would sure follow! Look at them thar shadows casted by her boobies!

"it never ceases to amaze me that any news announcement concerning DNF always draws a crowd"

We should make it a contest. Start a couple of threads and see which one will rise faster.

1) 3DRealms says they are working on DNF
2) Derek Smart says anything
3) Doom3 is way better than HL2 (or the other way)
4) RIAA sues someone pirating music
5) Microsoft is evil

The bets start at 5$

the young guys wouldn't understand setting up more extended memory in DOS through crappy edit and config.cfg

Neither do you apparently

You mean config.sys and autoexec.bat, don't you?

Ahhh, the glorious days of DOS. Do you remember when the games started coming out with the GL DOS Extender, that finally got rid of that fucking 640k of initial memory?
I'll never forget the woes of one of my friends back then, who wanted to play the Dark Sun RPG with his Gravis Ultrasound, and when loading its driver had a grand total of 23!!! bytes too little main memory, and so it wouldn't run

God, I really do NOT miss those days...

Ah! One landed! "

Hahahahahahahaha. That game was hilarious.

Personaly I think they have a developed such a rich and deep story line that no one in their original target audience would be able to understand it. That's why they are waiting till their audience reaches the new target age group of about 40 something.

It could just be that they are seriously lacking any developement talent.

id have written and released Quake 3+Team Arena and Doom 3 in the same time span. That's two new graphics engines, two sound engines and a physics engine all written by id. On top of that they support countless other dev teams who license id engines and have gone on to produce some of the biggest titles in the last 5 years. ( RtCW / Moh / CoD / Sof I&II / Elite Force I&II to name a few )

Plus how long were crytek going before releasing FarCry ? with it's impressive new engine & physics etc.

DNF & HL2 are the biggest hyped games to ever almost exist. I believe that both will look dated by the time they actually hit store shelfs. ( assuming they make it at all ).

"Realms, it will definitively have a captive audience."

HAHAHA, Seriously, is there a gamer in the world when faced with an actual copy of DNF for sale who could resist buying it?

"Oh my god what the fuck is this? No way, it isnt DNF! WHAT?? It is? I'm buying this shitter right fucking now"

I had two SpaceOrbs (gameport-versions) and the Logitech Cyberman 2. I preferred the Cyberman 2.

But the best controller ever was the TAC-2 for my Sinclair Spectrum (aka Timex Sinclair). I remember thinking that maybe 48K (yes, that's 48 kilobytes) was overkill when I decided between the 16K and 48K versions of that computer. Those were the days...

While I have no intention of reading all 100+ posts in this thread, it never ceases to amaze me that any news announcement concerning DNF always draws a crowd. If DNF ever becomes a shipping game and not just an endless experiment in game development by 3D Realms, it will definitively have a captive audience.

Think that you don't want to require thumb dexterity on a controller that you are moving around the desk. On the other hand, I think it would awesome if they made on of those Nosotromo Speedpads with PS2-like analog joystick on the side instead of the current, difficult to use joypad.

I'm still waiting for someone to develop eye-tracking controllers that see where you are looking at and move your view or cursor accordingly. That will rock.

P.S. I could never get my Space Orb to work well on anything except Descent, for which it is still the best controller EVAR!...hmmm...think I'll reinstall that one tommorrow.

You know I think they are jealous of HL2 and its vaporware awareness.

I want to start a marketing firm specializing in vaporware mindshare.

Video cards with expandable memory (sound cards too, I think)

COUGH*SPACEORB!*COUGH

For the youngsters:
http://www.makeitsimple.com/reviews/space_orb/

I'm tellin' ya right now (NO ONE ever listens to me), if an enterprising soul could use the tech from the Space-orb (also used in Logitechs Cyberman 2 and other products for CAD design http://www.3dconnexion.com/products.htm ) a very good mouse emulation hybrid gamepad for FPS games on consoles could be made. It would sell BIG TIME! MS came pretty close with the Dual Strike ( http://activewin.com/reviews/hardware/joysticks/microsoft/dual_strike/index.shtml ) but it was built for PC's which is redundant as, obviously, the PC already has the perfect control scheme. For consoles though, it would be a godsend.

someone PLEASE build something like this.

GB, go back to posting on shugashack and sell the franchise to a developer that will do something with it.

Yeah, I hear Derek Smart is looking for an established title to develop.

It boggles my mind how anyone at 3DRealms could want to release any other "official" announcement other than "THE GAME IS F*CKING DONE ALREADY!!!!"

The only thing I can think of is that it satisfies someones contractual obligations??? I guess we'll know someday...or WILL WE????

And lastly, boy did I get a sick and cheap thrill at seeing a new Duke news thread...I've always maintained these threads have some of the best humor I read anywhere. I say keep up the "healthy" debate.

By the way did I read something about HL2 going gold today?
