DNF Gets Physical

Meqon announces that they are providing the physics engine for Duke Nukem Forever:
3D Realms selects Meqon as physics provider for Duke Nukem Forever

Norrköping, Sweden – 27th of September, Meqon, an up and comer in the physics middleware industry, announced they have been selected by 3D Realms as the physics engine provider for their long awaited game Duke Nukem Forever.

Meqon has been focusing on creating the most easy to use and flexible physics engine in existence. George Broussard, CEO of 3D Realms backs them up - “We evaluated several physics SDK's and Meqon was really fast, had the cleanest interface and integrated into our game very quickly."

The physics engine does not only handle basic rigid body simulation, but extends into character and vehicle enhanced physics as well. Mr Broussard comments, “With its advanced feature set, we feel confident that Meqon's next generation physics engine can help us create the next generation of action games.”

DNF is going to have to get some seriously fantastic reviews for me to even consider it.

Funny, people talk alot of shit about this game and love to flame it, but when it comes out... they'll get it.

most people trash DNF good-naturedly. Yes theres some people who do it maliciously but thats no problem as they're the ones who looks like jackases by taking it so seriously. George seems to have a good sense of humor about it all (with 10 million in his front pocket from Max Payne I'd roll with the punches too ). They've had enough time to refine gameplay and storyline so I'm sure the game will be fine when it ships.

It's on!!! The contest to see who can string along the most gamers for the longest amount of time! Half-Life 2 hasn't been in the running as long as DNF, but it probably has more fanboys. But DNF, with it's nearly 10 year stint in development, may pull in some more gamers with the announcement of the physics engine.

This project is so old that the young guys wouldn't even get a Daikatana reference if you threw it out again.

GB, go back to posting on shugashack and sell the franchise to a developer that will do something with it. Think of all the donuts and pizza that will buy.

They've taken so long that when this game finally comes out it better have the best damn Happy Ending ever! And by "Happy Ending" I don't mean the "...and they lived happily ever after" type, but the "Chinese Massage - Gauranteed Happy Ending " version.

how on earth does 3D Realms pay salaries to all its staff for this many years without releasing a major product

aye this is the most mystifying aspect of the games biz to me - and not just 3DR - read the annual shareholder reports and it's obvious that Somehow Somewhere millions in undocumented, unreported money is changing hands. the numbers just dont add up

Max Payne, Max Payne 2, Duke Nukem Manhattan Project(great game), Duke Nukem Advanced (GBA). You do not have to make a game to be someone who makes money off it.

...do the right thing: sell the Duke name and image to a developer that knows what they are doing. Because you clearly do not. This is so old and pathetic that it's not even funny. It's just sad. 3DR kept harping on Prey until they had no choice but to say it wasn't going to happen. I see the same thing happening here. Hell, I have more confidence in the Phantom console than I have in 3DR.
I'm not even really here.

Because. I am from Norway? And also, I like to be short. It's a matter of style. I write like that in norwegian to.

Well, I think it is or was intended to be a franchise...
Franchise:
"A form of business organization in which a firm which already has a successful product or service (the franchisor) enters into a continuing contractual relationship with other businesses (franchisees) operating under the franchisor's trade name and usually with the franchisor's guidance, in exchange for a fee"
Duke Nukem's the product. They could license games...movies, books etc...
I didn't buy Dakaitana because of the long dev time. I then heard it was crap so...no need to buy.
I agree games are not easy to make and it's not easy to please everyone. I think a lot of people don't like the "Closed mouth" policy that 3DR has. Plus, many great games have been deloveloped in a lot shorter time than DNF (at this point). IMO, the gaming industry is different than most. Game fans expect resonable updates about game progress. 3DR has not done that.

lackey #1: Darts?

lackey #2: Man, I could go for a pizza right now.

lackey #3: George! The toilets stopped up again! I think I used too many Max Payne 2 boxes to wipe my ass with.

GB: hmmm...anybody checked on the latest Duke build in the past few weeks?

All, in unison: AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

lackey #2: But seriously, how 'bout a pizza?

"3DR OWN DUKE. It's their invention, not a franchise of any kind.
Why would anyone NOT want a game that someone put that much time, money and effort into?
Maybe I finally get a product that's truly satisfying. There's always something wrong with FPS's. Thing is, they REALLY try. They do work on this game. They hire people, they use new software, they change things. That's the artistic way. Painting over and try out everything.
Because they want the final result to stand out and be satisfying. I salute them for that. How could I get mad? Because it's an online world of disinformation, teasing and tricking. But 3DR has kept shut for a long time. Look at Valve's HL2 right now. The hype started last year. Then the code was stolen. And now they have a real mess with Vivendi. I think things are starting to grow overboard. Games becomes more expensive to make, and there's a lot of money involved. It's not really about greed, but more to get your money back and a piece of the cake. But nobody should forget the developers, the artists and the people spending years of years to make a game worth buying. The customers are very demanding those days. Some people say DOOM3 is to dark. Think it over. It's like saying the movie "seven" was to dark. I don't see any such complaints about movies. People accept it, and switch channel. Why can't they switch game? No, because it's an online world. People go online and spend more time on complaining and ranting than actually playing. It's a new culture. A way of life. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just the way it is. On the other hand, the majority still buy the product When IT'S DONE. They play it and enjoy it. This yelling around about how dirtpoor some games are is just a subculture. A good game sell a million copies. One percent go online and rant about it for days, longer than the game lasted. 1000's of people. It's just a fantastic new aspect of popular online culture. And I am a part of it. I spendt more time on browsing testforums online, deciding what videocard to buy for DOOM3, than actually playing the game itself! It's true: people talk alot of shit about DNF and love to flame it, but when it comes out... they'll get it. "

You make lot of fragments. Cave man make fragment. Use conjunctions. Please. Use. Conjunctions. Period not friend. Period BAD. Bad like fire. Maybe use paragraph too. We make enter key for that. Enter key good.

And George B shoulda used duct tape to keep shut that time back in 2002. You still remember...and has all those things handy for threads like this? I find it amazing. You *must* buy the game WID, right? No? LOL
