The thing with the new consoles is that the companies are making it as easy as possible to develop for them. PS3 is using OpenGL (2.0?), XBox2 will have XNA (or whatever the abbreviation is.) Nintendo hasn't said anything, but given that they're the world's best software developer, I'm sure they know what to do in terms of developer friendliness--from a software perspective, anyway. They still have problems with developer relations.

I think this "oh no, the new consoles are going to kill off 90% of all the publishers and software houses" stuff isn't going to pass. Some companies will die, but only because they put out crappy products--see Acclaim.

almost missed that, worth reading for PC only people too - infact probably more relevant.

it would've been nice if capcom had remade(or at least did more) with RE2-3, CV on the cube.

probably a console only title, though it would be nice to have the RE remakes 1-3 on PC.

That's the problem with console add-ons. If Sony had shipped the PS2 with a HDD right out of the box then I'm sure games would be using it.

If it's optional and it doesn't benefit me that much then why should I bother buying it.

Exactly. I remember very early Sega Genesis ads that showed how it was going to come with a modem. Never happened...add-ons for consoles usually flop. Devs fear not enough users will buy it, and gamers fear not enough games will support it.

Remember that wonderfull cd drive add-on for thr Atari Jaguar that looked like a toilet seat?

I'm really disappointed by the lack of support for the PS2 HDD. Very few games actually take advantage of it (Final Fantasy XI and Resident Evil Outbreak). The HDD is just sitting in my machine waiting to be used by other games. And to top it off, there is a program out there that allows you to copy your games onto it and play them off the HDD, with faster load times!

I don't if it is Sony's fault or the developers, but this is really pissing me off. I recently bought Burnout 3 and Madden 2005 and would love for them to be able to take advantage of the HDD... but they don't. This is insane!
